Chapter 1 - The Light

"Hey there, son! Why don'tcha come on down here and do a little huntin' with me today?!" Yelled John Marston.

John Marston, a well-known figure in the criminal underworld that goes by the name "Dead Eye." Not many know his identity, as he has never been caught since he started 28 years ago.

His first-ever robbery was a bank robbery, which earned him more than 100 thousand dollars. That was the first of many, because throughout his years as a criminal, he has robbed over 5 banks, 4 cargo trains, 4 gang families, 13 rich figures, and has killed countless people.

Although for the past 2 years, he has been quiet. Some said he died, some think he retired, but no one could've guessed he chose family.

At the prime age of 44, John Marston now has 2 kids and a beautiful wife, the same age as him.

Not getting an answer, John groaned and spoke, "Haa... what am I gonna do with that boy?"

John entered the house and went upstairs, where he saw his daughter's room full of clothes on the ground. Irritated, John yelled, "Goddamn it Luxana! Git in here and clean up this dang room! I swear, if I come back and it's still a pigsty, there's gonna be hell to pay! You hear me?!"

From across the hall where the bathroom was, a voice rang out,

"Daddy, can ya not barge into my room like that?!"

"Well, I wouldn't be bustin' in there, sugar, if that room weren't such a dang mess!"

"Fine! I'll clean it up later, soon as I'm done washin' off!"

John just shook his head and made his way to his boy's room. He gave the door a knock, and right quick came a voice,

"C'mon in."

Unlike his sister's room, Jack Marston's room was clean and neat without a speck of dust. On his wall were posters of cartoon characters that John could never understand.

John opened the door and saw his son playing a game. The game was called Red Dead Redemption One. A game that his son would always say reminded him of his dad.

"Hey son, I called out to ya earlier—ain't you comin' or what?"

Jack paused the game and turned around to meet his dad's eye, "Nah, Pa, not today. I gotta finish this game. Can't get it done 'cause you keep on buggin' me 'bout goin' huntin'."

John sighed, "You been cooped up in this room the whole day. What's so great about this damn game anyway?"

"Feels like I'm in another world every time I play these kinda games, ya know? And get this—the main fella in the game's just like you! Got a scar on his cheek and's a dang good shot! Even got the same name as you, and his boy's got the same name as me! Can you believe that, Pa?"

John just chuckled and was about to speak, but before he could say something to Jack, a sarcastic feminine voice came from the back, "What are you two bickering about? It's 8 in the dang morning for crying out loud!"

John turned around and saw the love of his life, Bonnie.

John smiled brightly and said,

"Well, if it ain't my beautiful wife."

John gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek, and soon after, the bathroom door opened and his daughter came out, hair still wet.

"Ew, Pa, not right here in the hallway!"

Bonnie let out a chuckle, and John spoke playfully, "Ain't I told you to clean your room, young lady?"

Luxana nervously looked around and saw that everyone was at Jack's door. Seeing a way out of cleaning her room, she walked towards Jack's room and said, What're you playin'? And why in tarnation do you keep at it? Might as well not waste daylight—go hunt us breakfast with pa.

Luxana glared at her younger brother, and Jack, being the younger brother, couldn't do anything but helplessly agree.

However, as he stood up, the computer suddenly shut down.

Jack turned around, confused, "What the—did the power go out?"

He grabbed the mouse and moved it, trying to see if the computer was just in sleep mode. But the moment he moved the mouse, a bright light from the computer lit the room, covering everything in the room.

John POV

"Argh..."

I groaned in pain as my head throbbed uncontrollably. Looking around, I was somewhere near the shore of the beach. When I tried to stand up, something got into my left eye.

"Fuck!"

I touched my eye and quickly took a look at my hands. My dry hands were now covered in blood and sand.

Looking around, I saw that there was water nearby so I quickly walked towards the water and washed my face. As soon as I cleaned up, I looked around once more and assessed the situation.

I was previously with my family, then I saw a white light and ended up here.

Was it God by chance? Although I don't believe in God, I sure will do now if this was really one of his miracles.

My surroundings were something uncommon in the Midwest. It was a beach right next to a forest, and the body of water didn't look like a lake, but the ocean itself. What's more, the water was also extremely salty.

After I finished looking around, I assessed my body, and I only noticed one injury, my head injury. As for my equipment, I had a KA-BAR USMC for a knife, a Model 27 revolver for a handgun, 6 pouches of .357 Magnum, a M1903 for a rifle, and around my upper body was 1 ammo belt purely of .30 caliber.

Seeing the guns made me feel safer, as I have been working with them for most of my life. Thinking about my life, I couldn't help my think about my family. Could something similar happen to them? Where are they now? Are they safe?

So many questions were in my mind, but I knew that the more I stood here doing nothing, the higher the chance they might encounter danger.
