Chapter 10 - Time to fulfill the bet

The living room was quiet except for the murmur of the television. Morning light slipped through the curtains, painting pale gold lines across the wooden floor.

TV ANCHOR (formal, urgent tone):

"Breaking news. Government security forces have arrested a group of illegal smugglers suspected of raiding historic tombs and stealing classified relics. These individuals attempted to smuggle precious national heritage artifacts across borders. Thanks to an anonymous reporter who tipped off the authorities—these priceless mini relics have now been safely recovered. Investigations are ongoing."

The screen showed masked men in handcuffs, crates sealed with government emblems, and ancient stone fragments wrapped in cloth.

Knock! Knock!

Meng Qi, still tying her hair into a messy bun, walked to the door with mild annoyance.

MENG QI (softly, opening the door):

Yes? Who—

She didn't get to finish.

GAO YUNSHENG (slightly breathless, polite but urgent):

"Sorry for coming this early, Sister Meng Qi… but I need to discuss something important with your son."

Meng Qi blinked, half surprised, half confused.

MENG QI (sighs):

"He's still sleeping. If it's that urgent… you can go in."

Without another word, Gao Yunsheng stepped inside and strode down the hallway.

INT. Lin Feng's Room

The door creaked open.

Lin Feng was slumped over his desk, cheek pressed against scattered sheets filled with scribbles, stock charts, diagrams, and business models. A lamp still flickered faintly.

Gao Yunsheng stared for a second… then clicked his tongue.

He walked over and shook his shoulder.

GAO YUNSHENG (firm):

"Wake up. Hey—Lin Feng."

Lin Feng groaned, blurry-eyed, lifting his head slowly. His hair was messy, a faint ink stain on his cheek.

LIN FENG (yawning, rubbing his eyes):

"Uncle Gao…? Why are you here… this early?"

GAO YUNSHENG (cold, amused mockery):

"You want to become the richest man in China, but you can't even wake up at sunrise? Punctuality, kid. Ever heard of it?"

Lin Feng didn't bother arguing. Instead, he reached to the side—grabbed a thick bundle of papers—and handed it to him.

LIN FENG (calm, serious):

"This. My research. Stock plan. Business projection models."

Gao blinked.

Then slowly… he flipped through the pages.

His smile vanished.

GAO YUNSHENG (voice low, stunned):

"You… did all this? At your age?"

His eyes skimmed through accurate stock fluctuations, risk calculations, market strategies, even contingency plans.

And in that quiet morning light, they spoke. No jokes, no interruptions. For almost three hours, numbers and visions clashed between a child and a billionaire investor. One questioned. The other answered. By the end… neither saw each other the same way again.

Scene Shift – Inside the Airplane

Clouds drifted lazily beyond the oval window. Sunlight spilled across the wings of the plane, turning the sky into a canvas of gold and silver. Far below, mountains and rivers looked like veins running across the earth.

Lin Feng sat silently, staring outside.

Beside him, Gao Yunsheng sipped coffee from a paper cup.

GAO YUNSHENG (smirking):

"What? First time sitting in business class and seeing clouds up close? Don't fall out of your seat, kid."

Lin Feng rolled his eyes but didn't look away from the sky.

LIN FENG (calm):

"It's peaceful. That's all."

GAO YUNSHENG (leaning back, teasing):

"Peaceful? Hah. You were trembling when we took off. Thought your soul left the body."

Lin Feng didn't react—just asked quietly:

LIN FENG:

"How did you convince my mom and Uncle Renwang to let me go with you?"

Gao smirked, glancing sideways.

GAO YUNSHENG (careless tone):

"Oh… I just told them I'd keep you safe, teach you some business, and make sure you don't start any wars before high school."

Lin Feng sighed.

The plane hummed softly. Passengers around them had begun to doze off.

Midnight on the Plane

The cabin lights were dim. Almost everyone was asleep—flight attendants, passengers, even Gao Yunsheng with his arms crossed and eyes half shut.

Only Lin Feng was still awake.

His eyes narrowed slightly. His voice, barely a whisper:

LIN FENG (low, cold):

"It's enough. Show yourself… you damn demon. Haven't you rested long enough?"

From deep within his consciousness—a faint chuckle echoed.

DEMON / YE LINGYUN (voice like cold wind):

"Hmph. Thanks to your constant meditation, your core has stabilized. Now… you're ready to absorb the energy of the world."

Lin Feng took a soft breath.

LIN FENG:

"Then tell me properly. How do I do it?"

[Cultivation Begins – In the Airplane, Thousands of Feet Above Ground]

DEMON (calm, instructive):

"Close your eyes. Feel the air. Guide the breath down to your dantian. Open the meridians—let the Qi flow naturally. Don't force it… let it answer you."

Lin Feng obeyed.

Slowly, the world went silent.

His breathing slowed… heart steady.

Then—

Something responded.

Not gentle.

Violent.

Cold and strange energy rushed into him like a river breaking through a dam—

but instead of gold or blue… it was grey. Misty. Silent. Powerful.

The demon's voice broke its calm.

DEMON (shocked):

"Grey energy…? Boy—this is the Dao foundation—you're—"

A pulse of Qi exploded in Lin Feng's veins.

WHOOM— Air trembled faintly. No one else noticed.

Lin Feng wasn't just absorbing Qi.

He was devouring it.

He opened his Meridians .

His breath deepened.

Walls shattered internally—

—and just like that, he broke through to the 4th Realm of Qi Refining.

DEMON (wide-eyed, stunned):

"Y-You… do you even understand?! That speed—cultivating directly on the Path of Dao—are you trying to scare me to death?!"

LIN FENG (eyes still closed, faint grin):

"Relax, Master. I didn't die, right?"

The demon fell silent… speechless.
