He has dinner alone, heating up a meal that Jacqueline prepped for them, and he's just putting his dishes in the dishwasher when his phone vibrates on the countertop. Figuring it's Jade or Dr. Summers calling to check in, he answers without looking.
"Hello?"
"Who do you have paying your hospital bills?"
Noel's spine goes rigid. "Beckett?!"
"What, do you not have my number saved?"
"No, I—"
"Answer me—who paid your hospital bill?"
Noel bristles, fisting his free hand on the counter. "I don't see how that's any of your concern," he bites out. "I didn't end up on the news or do anything that would trace back to you, so don't—"
"Yeah, because you were in a VIP room!" Beckett cuts in, practically shouting. "The staff up there is vetted for absolute confidentiality! Who is spending that much money on you?!"
"Why does it matter!" Noel yells back, voice ringing in the empty marble kitchen. "As long as I didn't bother you with it, you shouldn't even care! You're not involved!"
