The drive back to Orlando feels different now. Chloe sits beside me in the passenger seat, her hand resting on my arm with a familiarity that should comfort me but doesn't. The funeral was beautiful. Nora got the send-off she deserved.
"I still can't believe she's gone," Chloe says softly.
I keep my eyes on the road. "She died peacefully. That's what matters."
"She brought us back together."
"She asked me not to divorce you. That's not the same thing."
Chloe's grip tightens on my arm. "But it's a start, right?"
I don't answer. The truth is, I'm honoring a dying woman's wish, nothing more. But Chloe doesn't need to know that yet.
My phone buzzes with a text. Chloe glances at the screen.
"Who's Marcus Webb?" she asks.
"My grandfather's estate manager. He wants to schedule a call."
Her eyes light up. "About the inheritance?"
"Probably."
"When do we leave for England?"
"We don't. I leave for England. When I'm ready."
