Liana was sitting in her office when her phone buzzed.
Zayne: "Hey, I miss you. Can we talk tonight? "
She stared at the message for a moment before typing back.
Liana: "I miss you too. Let's talk after work."
That night, they talked for hours like they used to. They laughed, remembered old moments, shared new dreams. By the end of the call, Zayne said softly:
"Liana, I still love you. I always have."
Liana blushed. Her heart fluttered.
"I love you too, Zayne."
Not long after that, they began dating. Their first kiss was soft, gentle years of feelings finally meeting. It felt right.
When Liana told her parents about Zayne, they smiled warmly.
"That boy has always been good to us," her mother said. "He was there when things were hard. If he still loves you, marry him."
Liana thought deeply. She looked at Zayne's picture on her phone the one where he wore that shy smile.
She agreed.
The wedding was quiet but full of meaning. Zayne looked at her like she was his whole world. She walked down the aisle feeling like a promise fulfilled.
But not all stories end where love begins.
Two Years Later
Liana was now working in a multinational company. That's where Daniel was too the same Daniel who had liked her since Harvard.
Daniel never gave up.
Every day at work, he'd drop by her office with coffee, jokes, compliments.
"I still love you," he said one day.
"Daniel, I'm married," Liana said sharply.
"I don't care," he replied, eyes locked on hers. "Does he make you feel seen?"
Those words stayed with her.
At home, things weren't the same.
Zayne noticed.
"Liana, is everything okay?" he asked one night.
She rolled her eyes, avoiding his gaze. "Why are you always asking questions? Can't I just be tired?"
Zayne nodded silently. But the hurt was there sitting quietly between them.
Work became an escape.
Liana and Daniel were given a big project long meetings, weekend plans, shared pressure. One evening after a presentation, they stayed behind in the office lounge.
They talked.
Laughed.
Then silence.
Then… the kiss.
It wasn't planned.
It just happened.
But what Liana didn't know was Zayne was there. He had come to surprise her with lunch.
And he saw.
He saw the kiss.
He didn't say a word.
He walked away.
But his heart broke that day.
He waited waited for Liana to be honest.
But every time she came home, she acted like nothing happened.
And every time she smiled, his heart ached.
He had loved her through everything.
But now… he wasn't sure if love was enough.
