Chapter 10 - Fooled

The taste of a plum can be either sweet or sour. Bite into it with force, and you'll know for certain. Pierce your teeth into its skin before ripping off the layer that kept the taste hidden for so long.

If you are lucky, the fruit is ripe. Its juices are sweeter than anything you have ever tasted before. Gracing you with the finest pleasure and granting you the experience of a moment worthwhile.

A moment promised to only you.

But if fate has it, the fruit is not as ripe as it seemed. Both color and smell deceive you. The allure of sweetness banishes your doubt until the taste makes you grimace. The sourness of something you once thought would bring you joy now taints your tongue.

You have been fooled by a plum.

Many others have been, too. It is only natural to realize one's faults when it is too late. When all is said and done. When even the core is rotten and decayed.

But even then, would you still look for a sliver of hope?

Seeking justice in a sea of uncertainty. Catching your breath, fighting your way through when all you wish to do is drown in the past.

All this for a mere glance at the truth, you do not even know is worth all the sorrow and pain.

What if the truth only hurts more?

What if the truth showed you who you truly are?

What if the truth unveils the secrets you have been hiding for far too long?

Blood on your hands. Or the righteousness you carry within.

It will all come out eventually. So do not fret. Truth is a powerful tool. Whether still hidden beneath a load of lies, it will wait until its time is ripe.

For when the moon shines bright at the highest point in the sky, choosing between fate and purpose, it ought to reveal what lies beyond the veil of life.

For all eternity, truth shall prevail and bring shame to those who loathe it.

Only then will balance reign once more. The crown returns to its rightful owner.

Memories shared. Tears shed. Lives taken.

It is cruel, that I know.

But could it really be worse than pretense?

For that, I shall let you think. For as long as this story lasts.
