Chapter 62: Drained Dry, Dai Mubai
The next morning, sunlight bathed the land. A warm breeze brought dryness and vitality. All things stirred beneath the bright sunlight as a new day began.
Shrek Academy.
Yu Xiaogang stood in the center of the training grounds, hands behind his back, gazing at the students lined up before him. Today, he was the only instructor present. Flender had stated that, from now on, all the academy's teachers would assist the Grandmaster in his teaching.
Yu Xiaogang's cold gaze swept across the students.
"Tomorrow during breakfast time, I expect to see you in the dining hall even earlier. Food needs time to digest—it's unhealthy to engage in intense activity right after eating. I'll have breakfast ready at dawn. If you're not there within half an hour, then don't bother eating."
His stern gaze passed over the group again. He could tell some weren't listening, but he didn't repeat himself.
"I've already studied your martial souls and abilities. Starting today, we'll begin intensive training. Dai Mubai, step forward."
No response.
"Dai Mubai, step forward."
Still nothing.
Yu Xiaogang's expression darkened. He hadn't expected someone to ditch the very first class. His cold eyes scanned the group again.
"Where is Dai Mubai? Did he even show up?"
From the edge of the group, Ma Hongjun stepped forward nervously and raised his hand. "Reporting, Boss Dai isn't feeling well today. He won't be coming."
Yu Xiaogang's face stiffened. He snapped, "He's not feeling well? Not earlier, not later—but right now? Sounds like he's trying to skip class."
At that moment, Ma Hongjun was already cursing in his heart. He shot Yu Xiaogang a sideways glance—what was he supposed to say? Tell him Dai Mubai went to the brothel last night, overdid it, and now can't even stand?
If he really said that, not only would he feel guilty, but Dai Mubai would never forgive him once he recovered.
Ma Hongjun simply said, "Reporting, Boss Dai really is unwell."
Just then, Oscar also stepped out. "Reporting, I can confirm it. This morning when Boss Dai got back, he looked pale, his legs were shaking, and he couldn't stand straight. He even asked me for two Recovery Sausages."
The moment he said it, Oscar regretted it. Coming back like that, wobbling and weak? Even a fool could guess what happened.
Sure enough, originally only Ma Hongjun knew Dai Mubai had gone to the brothel—now practically everyone knew.
The crowd erupted into whispers. Ning Rongrong, furious, cursed Dai Mubai as an "Evil-Eyed Lust Tiger" in front of Zhu Zhuqing and Meng Yiran.
Ma Hongjun silently mourned for Dai Mubai and Oscar. The former's reputation was now trashed—not that he ever cared much about it anyway.
But Oscar? He was in trouble. Once Dai Mubai recovered, he probably wouldn't let him off the hook.
Yu Xiaogang's mouth twitched. His head felt like it had doubled in size. He had studied the profiles of all seven Shrek students. Ma Hongjun running off to brothels because of his martial soul was understandable. But Dai Mubai? That was just wasting his talent.
Yu Xiaogang sighed. "Enough. Today, all of you run twenty laps around the village. No food until you finish. I'm going to check on Dai Mubai."
"Ah!" Ning Rongrong and Meng Yiran both looked miserable. Ning Rongrong had suffered this before. Meng Yiran just thought twenty laps sounded insane.
Tang San gently took Meng Yiran's hand and smiled. "Yiran, it's alright. If you get too tired later, I'll carry you."
"Mm." Meng Yiran nodded, feeling warm inside. Suddenly, twenty laps didn't seem so bad.
Five laps.
Ten laps.
Twenty laps.
When they finally finished, everyone was panting heavily. Ning Rongrong looked like she was about to collapse. Even Tang San wasn't doing well—though twenty laps were within his endurance, he had carried Meng Yiran for several of them. He was nearly wiped out.
Only Zhu Zhuqing looked perfectly fine, as if nothing had happened.
She glanced around at the others and murmured softly, "So this is real soul power control?"
She had spent nearly the entire run channeling soul power into her legs. Not only did it increase her speed, but it also significantly reduced her energy expenditure.
If not for wanting to build her physique and conserve power, she could've gone even faster.
Ning Rongrong, seeing that Zhu Zhuqing looked completely unfazed, exclaimed in surprise, "Wow! Zhuqing, your physique is amazing! Not only were you fast, but you still look like you have energy to spare!"
"Is… is that so?" Zhu Zhuqing replied a little awkwardly. Well, sure—might as well go with it. After all, it was her own man who taught her.
Not far away, Tang San, who was supporting Meng Yiran, glanced at Zhu Zhuqing but said nothing. He fell into silent thought.
"It seems you've all completed the task quite well. Very good. Especially Zhu Zhuqing—your physical fitness is impressive. Looks like I'll need to adjust your training plan going forward," Yu Xiaogang said as he walked out from the dormitory building.
With his hands behind his back, he addressed the students standing in age order.
Zhu Zhuqing simply nodded and didn't say much.
Tang San asked, "Teacher, do we have any other classes scheduled for today?"
Yu Xiaogang shook his head. He had originally planned today's training to be about team coordination, but with Dai Mubai absent, the session would lose its purpose.
Just thinking about Dai Mubai gave Yu Xiaogang a headache. He hadn't expected the boy to indulge himself to such extremes.
It was only after repeated questioning by him, Flender, and Zhao Wuji that they learned Dai Mubai had indeed gone with Ma Hongjun to the brothel last night—and had kept at it the entire night.
More than ten girls in the brothel's "Phoenix Nest" had been exhausted.
Now, his lower body was bruised and swollen, and if not treated soon, that part of him might be permanently crippled.
"I have something to discuss with Dean Flender today. The rest of you are free to arrange your own cultivation. Xiaosan, come with me."
In Yu Xiaogang's memory, his student Tang San had some knowledge of poisons. And based on what Flender had reported, Dai Mubai didn't seem like someone who would normally overindulge like this.
That led Yu Xiaogang to suspect Dai Mubai might have been drugged—and he wanted Tang San to take a look.
Tang San replied, "Understood, Teacher."
Yu Xiaogang led Tang San to Dai Mubai's dormitory. Flender and Zhao Wuji were already there, keeping watch at the bedside.
Dai Mubai was pale as a sheet, his clothes soaked with sweat, looking like he had been completely drained. His hands clutched his lower body tightly, veins bulging on his forehead, his face twisted in pain.
Flender, seeing Tang San arrive, quickly called out, "Xiaosan, come here and take a look! See if Mubai's been poisoned!"
Tang San nodded seriously and said, "Please help take off Mubai's pants so I can examine him."
