Senju Princess: Carl-kun, you're here~ ^o^
God Among Mortals: I am.
What If My Little Sister Has Chuunibyou: Good afternoon, Boss!
Heavenblade King: Good day, Carl-dono!
God Among Mortals: Hello, everyone.
God Among Mortals: What's the conversation about? You all seem cheerful.
Senju Princess: Nothing special, just talking about what we bought in the store.
Commander of the Wall Guard: My luck's still terrible as usual...
Heavenblade King: Haha, I think we're all in the same boat.
Heavenblade King: Only Carl-dono seems blessed by the heavens. Every check-in gets him 10 points!
Commander of the Wall Guard: That's true.
Commander of the Wall Guard: My luck may be bad, but I'm in a pretty good mood.
Commander of the Wall Guard has sent a red envelope.
Heavenblade King received 52 points.
What If My Little Sister Has Chuunibyou received 62 points.
Senju Princess received 60 points.
God Among Mortals received 188 points.
Commander of the Wall Guard received 49 points.
Commander of the Wall Guard: Hahaha, see what I mean? My luck really is rotten.
What If My Little Sister Has Chuunibyou: Thank you, General Su!
Heavenblade King: Much appreciated. insertbowingemojiinsert bowing emoji
God Among Mortals: Thanks a lot, General Su.
Senju Princess: Thank you~ stickersticker
Commander of the Wall Guard: Hahaha, no need to thank me.
Commander of the Wall Guard: Thanks to Carl-dono, I still had some points left after buying Haki.
Commander of the Wall Guard: Not enough to level it up, so I thought I'd share the wealth.
Heavenblade King: Did something good happen, General Su?
Heavenblade King: You seem really happy, even gave out a red envelope.
Senju Princess: Yeah, you seem quite cheerful, what's the good news?
Commander of the Wall Guard: Something great did happen.
Commander of the Wall Guard: Remember how I said we were reopening the city gates for trade?
Heavenblade King: Yeah, I remember.
Commander of the Wall Guard: The market is open now, and the place is absolutely bustling.
Commander of the Wall Guard: Crowds everywhere, it almost feels like Chang'an.
Commander of the Wall Guard: Opening the city was clearly the right decision.
A video was uploaded by the Commander of the Wall Guard.
Everyone clicked on it, it was a clip recorded by Su Lie.
In the video, the streets bustled with people going to and fro. Street vendors called out their wares, and the air was lively and full of chatter.
Even more intriguing were some passersby with beast-like features, ears, tails, fur, clearly non-human hybrids.
Senju Princess: Wow, this looks amazing! You'd never guess it's a border city.
In Tsunade's ninja world, battles between nations were commonplace.
She was currently living in the midst of the Second Shinobi War. So, she had more than a little understanding of what border towns usually looked like.
Heavenblade King: This looks incredible! I'd love to visit one day.
What If My Little Sister Has Chuunibyou: Congrats! Looks like a real festival.
Commander of the Wall Guard: Haha, thanks, everyone.
Commander of the Wall Guard: If any of you want to visit the market here, you're more than welcome.
Commander of the Wall Guard: That said, the system hasn't triggered any travel missions yet.
Heavenblade King: Aww, that's a shame.
What If My Little Sister Has Chuunibyou: +1, I'd love to go sightseeing there too.
...
Su Lie looked at the messages flooding in from the group chat, a satisfied smile spreading across his face.
Just then, a sudden commotion erupted nearby.
Before Su Lie could investigate, his lieutenant came running up in a panic.
"General Su! Urgent news!"
Su Lie was still smiling when he turned. "What's the matter?"
"A massive horde of demonkind has appeared just outside the market!"
"What?!"
Su Lie's expression froze.
"How's that possible? Where did they come from?"
Right now, both the Wall Guard and the Yucheng army had withdrawn their forces to allow civilians to trade peacefully.
The entire area was unguarded, just ordinary townsfolk from the Wall and Yucheng.
Su Lie and the lieutenant were only present to oversee the market.
If demons attacked now, the consequences would be unimaginable.
"I don't know, sir," the lieutenant said anxiously. "They appeared out of nowhere."
But while his subordinate was panicking, Su Lie calmed down instantly.
After all, he had served at the Wall for over a decade and had weathered countless storms.
Now more than ever, as the highest-ranking commander, he had to be steady.
"Return to the Wall immediately," Su Lie ordered. "Call for reinforcements!"
The lieutenant hesitated. "But General, what about you, "
"I'll stay here. I'll hold them off."
Su Lie drew his blade from his waist and said firmly, "Go. Now."
"Understood!"
Knowing there was no other choice, the lieutenant turned and fled.
Right now, the fate of every civilian here rested on his shoulders.
Su Lie sprinted toward the city gates.
In the distance, demonic shadows loomed.
The leader stood over four meters tall, with massive bull-like horns and muscles like steel cables, an imposing, terrifying figure.
Behind it were two more demons, and beyond them, hundreds more stormed across the landscape.
"So many...!"
Su Lie narrowed his eyes.
If it were just a handful of demons, he could handle it.
But two or three hundred?
And the one leading them looked far from ordinary.
"I just need to hold them off until backup arrives!"
Letting out a furious roar, Su Lie charged forward.
For over ten years, he had served as a commander of the Wall Guard.
He had long regarded this fortress as his home.
As long as the Wall stood, so did his homeland.
Retreat was never an option.
He collided with the vanguard demons, blade flashing.
But these foes were nothing like average monsters.
Within a few exchanges, Su Lie was pushed back.
Soon, he could only defend, unable to strike back.
Three powerful demons surrounded him, and their strength was overwhelming.
And fate had more cruelty in store.
From the distance, the rest of the horde, hundreds strong, closed in.
They were now less than twenty meters away.
Su Lie could already see the wild madness in their eyes.
Even against just the three in front of him, he was struggling to hold the line.
Let alone the hundreds storming in behind them.
But Su Lie knew one thing.
If he fell here, if he lost,
The entire market would be overrun.
And every man, woman, and child inside would die.
They were ordinary civilians. They had no defense.
He had to stand.
No matter what.
