Thor originally didn't know what was wrong with him, or why he suddenly said something like that. So after speaking, he felt his cheeks flush with embarrassment. But on second thought, he felt that maybe he really couldn't bring himself to do anything too harsh to Loki. After all, no matter what, Loki was still his brother.
Faced with Thor's threat, the smile on Loki's face instantly froze. He never imagined his brother would say something like that. Was this really the Thor Odinson who had been with him for over a thousand years? Subconsciously, Loki turned his head to look at Clark.
Clark noticed Loki turning to look at him and felt a bit helpless. What exactly did the Odin family take him for? However, to cooperate with Thor, he still went against his conscience and raised his fist toward Loki. After all, Clark had never seen himself as someone with violent tendencies.
"Loki, don't even think about resisting. You brought those aliens to Earth before, but too bad—they were wiped out by Clark. So now, you have no reinforcements left. Got it?"
Following Clark's movement, Natasha noticed that Loki seemed a bit shocked, so she quickly added a heavy weight beside him.
Upon hearing Natasha's words, Loki widened his eyes and looked at Clark in disbelief. Although he didn't know who exactly Natasha was referring to as the aliens, since they had supposedly come to support him, they must not have been weak.
After all, if the reinforcements sent by the Chitauri leader had truly been trash, how could he have counted on successfully summoning them using the Tesseract?
So Loki was sure—it wasn't that his reinforcements were too weak, but rather that the man in front of him with the giant "S" on his chest was simply too overpowered.
Thinking of this, Loki decided he needed to prepare a backup plan. He sighed and said, "The Tesseract really isn't with me. And I don't know where it is right now either. Agent Barton has been carrying it around."
"Alright, I'm done talking. Do you have anything else to ask?"
Although Loki addressed his words to "you," Clark could clearly see that Loki was staring directly at him. In response to Loki's performance, Clark could only complain internally: Keep lying. Go on, keep making stuff up.
Clark knew very well that Loki wouldn't actually let Hawkeye carry the Tesseract around. But he also didn't know where the Tesseract really was. Even though he did, he had no interest in exposing Loki.
After all, if Loki's lies were revealed, who knew whether that would trigger the upcoming Battle of New York? Clark also planned to let that war help strengthen the bonds between the Avengers.
Other than Clark, no one present chose to believe Loki's words—not even his easily deceived brother Thor.
"Aliens? So others have been to Earth recently?" Hearing Natasha's words, Thor was convinced that Loki was being used.
Thor was furious to realize someone had manipulated Loki into doing evil. "Loki, who's the one behind you? What do you plan to do with the Tesseract?"
In Thor's eyes, someone had clearly tempted Loki into committing these terrible acts.
"They're the Chitauri. As for what they want with the Tesseract? Thor, you don't know how the Bifrost came to be, do you?" Since Loki had already decided to start prepping a second plan, sharing some less important intel with S.H.I.E.L.D. wasn't a big deal.
"Chitauri? Who are they? Thor, where are you from? And what is the Bifrost?" To Steve Rogers, these names were all completely unfamiliar, so he turned to Thor, who came from the same place as Loki.
"The Bifrost is our gateway from Asgard to the Nine Realms. With Heimdall's help, it can transport us anywhere in the Nine Realms—and bring us back too." Seeing that Steve didn't understand, Thor gave him a brief explanation.
"It's like a teleportation portal, except the Bifrost is bidirectional—it can go and return. And the Bifrost's construction was based on... the Tesseract."
Back when Asgard built the Bifrost, it used the Tesseract. But later, for reasons unknown, Thor's father had left the Tesseract on Earth. No one expected someone would track it down and discover it was here.
After saying that, Thor paused, apparently thinking about who the Chitauri were. Unfortunately, after pondering for a while, he still had no idea.
"As for the Chitauri... I don't know where they came from."
Then Thor looked at Loki again.
"Oh please. If you don't know, how could I possibly know where those Chitauri are from? They just asked me to get them the Tesseract, open a portal with it, and then they would send in an army to help me conquer Earth. After that, they'd take the cube, and the Earth would be mine. You see? Not a bad deal, right? Haha."
"Army? Another alien army? Are you talking about the one Clark just defeated?" When Steve heard "army," he immediately thought of the previous alien invasion.
"I honestly don't know which alien army you're talking about. I know they said they'd send help, but I don't know what kind of help," Loki said as he revealed his true form, wearing what he thought was a friendly smile.
But after learning what Loki had done, who among them would really see him as friendly?
After that, nothing unexpected happened on the Helicarrier, so the jet quickly returned to the space carrier.
"Leave him to us."
As the hatch opened, Clark saw Coulson waiting outside with a squad of fully armed soldiers.
"Director Fury built a special cell on this helicarrier—designed specifically to hold individuals with extraordinary abilities. We all believe it's the best place to imprison Loki."
As he spoke, Coulson walked up to Loki and said, "Hello, I'm Phil Coulson. I'll be in charge of your transfer. I hope you'll cooperate."
Loki just looked at Coulson, then raised his bound hands, as if to say—In this state, how can I not cooperate?
Coulson understood what Loki meant and smiled. "That's for the best."
He then waved his hand, signaling the soldiers behind him to take Loki away. But before they left, Coulson turned back to the others and said, "By the way, we've got hot water here—for showers, if you need one."
As Loki was being escorted to the prison by Coulson, he saw someone unexpected—Banner. And the moment he saw Banner, a new plan began to form in Loki's mind.
But as the plan began to take shape, Loki hesitated. He wasn't sure whether to go through with it. After all, even if he succeeded in opening the portal and letting the Chitauri soldiers invade Earth, with Clark here... he had no idea whether the so-called most powerful army in the universe could actually help him conquer Earth.
