"Thor the Thunder God?! Have you been reading too many fairy tales? If you're the God of Thunder, then you…" Daisy said, reaching her hand between Thor and Clark as if measuring something.
"Alright, alright, I've temporarily lost my powers."Thor immediately understood what Daisy meant. Honestly, after being knocked out by Clark twice, he already felt pretty embarrassed—especially now that it was being brought up again.
"But as long as I find Mjölnir, the hammer of the Thunder God, I can regain my power."
As Thor spoke, he looked at Jane and Daisy, who seemed to think he was rambling nonsense, and muttered to himself.
"Mjölnir? What's that?" Daisy interrupted, clearly confused by the unfamiliar word.
"Daisy, Thor's referring to Mjölnir, the hammer from Norse mythology. I am Thor, the God of Thunder, for the glory of the Norse gods."Seeing Daisy's confused face, Clark took the opportunity to explain a bit about mythology, then raised his cup in a dramatic gesture.
"—""—"
The four people around Clark were stunned, not even waiting to see what Clark intended by the gesture.
"Haha."Clark awkwardly put the cup down. Talking like that to someone unfamiliar with the myth clearly didn't land. Though he didn't get the show-off moment he wanted, Clark still felt oddly satisfied. He just hoped Thor wouldn't recognize where that line was from.
"That's not mythology. Asgard has protected Midgard for thousands of years."After the initial surprise, Thor couldn't help but correct Clark.
"Jane, can I talk to you for a second?"At that moment, Erik tapped Jane on the shoulder and pulled her aside.
"What is it?"Jane looked at Erik with a serious expression.
"Jane, did you hear him? Asgard, Midgard, Mjölnir—these are all myths. No sane person takes those seriously. I stopped reading that stuff when I turned twelve."
Erik had noticed Jane's growing interest in Thor and couldn't help but try to talk her out of it. In his view, Thor was likely some escapee from a psychiatric hospital.
After speaking, Erik looked toward Thor, who was still chatting with Clark.
"Do you know where your hammer is?" Clark asked with curiosity.
"I don't."Thor replied honestly.
"See?" Erik said, pointing at Thor. He half-expected Thor to raise his cup and shout "Mjölnir!" just to complete the illusion.
"Erik, I get what you're saying. But look—he appeared right at the center of that storm we photographed yesterday. No one could've survived up there, let alone just appear in the eye of the storm unharmed. I don't think that's a coincidence. Something is going on."
Jane admitted Erik made sense, but she still trusted her instincts.
Just then, a few new customers entered the fast food restaurant. As they sat down, they greeted some locals.
"You didn't go there? You missed the best part—what was in that crater."
"They say a satellite fell in the desert?"
"Yeah, and it was a blast."
Hearing this, Jane suddenly felt their conversation might be connected to the storm she'd observed the night before.
She stepped forward and asked, "Excuse me, did you say a satellite fell?"
"Yeah."One of the men turned around and answered.
Clark, upon hearing this, became more certain: the so-called "satellite" that fell the night before must've been Mjölnir—Thor's hammer.
"You're saying that's your hammer?" Clark asked, teasing Thor.
"What did the satellite look like?" Erik also chimed in. It was quite the coincidence: a storm the night before, and now a meteor—or satellite—crashing nearby.
"I don't really know what satellites are supposed to look like, but this thing was weird. It's super heavy—nobody can lift it, not even with a car. And it kinda looks like a hammer."
The man thought for a second, then described it.
Thor broke into a wide grin.
"That's Mjölnir!"
He stood up and clapped the man on the shoulder.
"Where is it?"
Now Thor was practically trembling with excitement. He couldn't wait to find his hammer and reclaim his powers. After all, being stuck in a mortal body and getting knocked out twice by Clark was downright shameful.
The man, though a little annoyed at first, saw the size difference between him and Thor and obediently pointed the direction.
"About 50 miles west."
Having gotten the information he wanted, Thor looked excited and strode straight out of the fast food joint.
Watching Thor take off, Clark sighed. No wonder Loki never listened to him. If even the King of Asgard was this impulsive, Clark wasn't surprised.
Jane saw Thor leave and immediately ran after him.
"Where are you going?" she shouted after the ever-impulsive Thor.
"Fifty miles west from here," Thor answered without looking back.
"Why?"Jane was confused. They were having a fine conversation, so why leave so suddenly?
"We're going to find his hammer, obviously."Clark muttered quietly, ever the perceptive one.
"I'm taking back what's mine."
"What, you've got satellites too?" Jane caught up with Thor, blocking his way.
"It's not what they said it is. It's called Mjölnir."Thor looked at Jane and suddenly had an idea.
"How about this—if you drive me there, I'll tell you everything you want to know."
"Everything?"Jane's interest was piqued. Thor was a complete mystery to her, and she had a strong feeling he wasn't ordinary.
"Yes. Once I get Mjölnir back, you'll know everything."
Thor knew nobody would believe him right now. So he decided to let reality prove his words: that he really was Thor.
"Deal."Jane thought it over. As long as Thor wasn't lying, it was a fair trade.
She had to know how Thor survived the storm. Her instincts told her there was something incredible waiting to be discovered.
"Simple!"
Erik still wanted to stop her. Thor didn't seem normal—everything he did and said was weird.
"It's fine. I'm just driving him there. That's it."
"He's dangerous, Jane," Erik insisted.
"Then why don't we all go take a look at this 'satellite' together?"Jane tried to convince Erik to come along. She didn't want to miss this rare opportunity.
Erik stared at Jane for a while. In the end, under her pleading gaze, he gave in.
"Fine. But we're just looking, that's all. And if we find out he's not right in the head…"Erik pointed to his temple. "You'll know."
"Got it."Jane finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Oh, right—Clark, are you coming with us?" Jane suddenly remembered her friend Daisy's guest.
"Of course. How can I miss something this fun?"
After driving about 70 kilometers, traffic started picking up—most of the cars were heading back the other way.
Eventually, they reached the crater. Its edge was lined with trucks and pickup vehicles, most belonging to local residents. Some people were even barbecuing nearby.
Clark could tell most of them were just locals looking for a good time.
"Haha—there it is. My hammer, Mjölnir!"
