Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: Who Pulls the Strings in the Shadows?

Arin

Location: The Ruined School – Student Dorms

Time: Midnight

The scent of ash still lingered in the air, even though days had passed since the destruction. I spent hours rummaging through the remains of Felkaris School—crumbling walls, charred lockers... all in vain. But when I entered a small room in the student dorms, something felt different. The door had been ripped off its hinges, and the window stood wide open to the cold night outside.

On a broken wooden desk, I found a tattered notebook, its edges singed and its cover stained with soot. Yet, one name still stood out clearly:

Kyle – Number 3

I opened the notebook slowly, my heart somehow knowing I was about to uncover something unforgettable.

---

"I'm Kyle.

They brought us to Felkaris School for a strange reason. At first, everything seemed normal. Classes… students… boring lectures. But after two weeks, things started to change.

One day, during class, a student suddenly screamed and collapsed, writhing on the floor... before transforming into an Emotica right in front of us! Panic erupted. He attacked blindly, screaming and tearing. No one could stop him. I confronted him... barely. I wasn't injured, but the screams still haunt me. Some students withdrew, refusing to return.

One night, I was walking with Zane—Number 9—and we were discussing the incidents. I said:

'What's going on? Why did these things start right after we arrived?'

He replied: 'Maybe it's just a coincidence...'

I answered: 'No. This is deliberate. Something is wrong with this school.'

He laughed and said: 'You overthink things, Kyle.'

Then came the Black Day. I was heading to the principal's office, and as I approached, I overheard voices from behind the door. The principal was talking to someone else. Their voices were low, but clear:

'It's time to execute the plan for this school. Are the preparations ready?'

'Of course... just make sure my family is safe.'

'Once we get more soldiers, you'll be released.'

'My master won't tolerate a single day of delay.'

'Goodbye.'

I ran. I warned the rest of the Ten. We prepared for anything. But now I know: we weren't transferred here by accident. We were chess pieces… and the board is slowly being soaked in blood."

—Kyle

---

I closed the notebook slowly, my hands trembling.

"Damn it…" I muttered.

Kyle knew. He had been so close to the truth. But what I wasn't prepared for… was that the administration itself had been dealing in fear. Teachers? Principals? Traitors—or puppets—controlled by someone from the shadows.

And worse...

"More soldiers?" I whispered, my eyes widening.

The students... were being turned into Emotica! Everyone at that school... had become fuel for the army of darkness.

I clenched my jaw, feeling a spark ignite deep within.

"If they're planning to do the same thing at Falka Academy... I'll stop them. With these hands, I'll crush every last one of them."

**

I returned to the academy, the notebook still in hand.

I didn't sleep that night. The images of Kyle and his companions—and that treacherous teacher—kept replaying in my mind. Were they all victims? Or did some of them know the truth and stay silent?

The next morning, Lina came to me.

Her steps were hurried, her eyes pleading: Please, tell me you found something.

I didn't speak. I simply handed her the notebook.

Her fingers trembled as she took it. She read in silence, and with each page she turned, her grip tightened. At the end, she clutched it to her chest.

She was shaking.

"Lina…" I finally spoke, "Tears won't help us now."

She looked up at me. "Is he alive?"

I answered firmly: "I believe so."

She whispered, "Thank you… At least now I have hope."

"But that's not all," I added. "There's something far more dangerous… beyond this school. Felkaris was just the beginning. Someone in the shadows is orchestrating everything. And all the signs point to the principal—or someone even higher—working directly with fear-based entities."

I turned, facing the window behind me.

"Lina, there's something I still don't understand. If they wanted to turn students... why didn't they do it here? Why transfer you? What was the goal?"

A heavy silence filled the room.

Then she answered, slowly: "Maybe… because those who carry your blood can't be turned."

I stared at her, stunned.

"Kyle… Zane… and the rest of the Ten. Their blood is linked to yours. They're exceptions. That's why they had to be isolated first."

**

"That explains everything!" I exclaimed. "What happened on the island… what happened at the ruined school… it was all an experiment to gather the strongest soldiers. And once they succeed, Falka Academy is next."

She clenched her fists. "We have to stop them."

"And we will. But we need answers... and now I know where to find them."

She looked at me, confused.

I said, "The principal. I'll make him talk... even if I have to rip out his tongue."

**

As the sun set behind the academy window, I made a silent vow:

Fear… I'm coming for you.
