Chapter 338 - Chapter 339: Pupitar, Enter!

Chapter 339: Pupitar, Enter!

After a long while, the blazing flames of the explosion finally died down.

A large, charred crater marred the battlefield. Excadrill, Bronzong, and Cradily were all lying motionless on the ground, completely scorched.

"Ha-cha!"

Looking at the sight before it, Infernape was filled with high spirits and soaring ambition. The long-stagnant power had finally broken through! The Gym Leader-level was a new journey.

But in the next second, Infernape felt stars in its eyes, its head spinning. It could barely stand.

Although it had completed its breakthrough at the critical moment, the sheer force of Blast Burn had completely drained the last of its remaining power. Not only that, but Blast Burn was a Fire-type ultimate move, which came with a side effect of temporary stiffness.

So, at this moment, Infernape's muscles were aching and weak. It was only its sheer willpower that kept it from collapsing. Infernape had reached its limit.

But even at its limit, trouble finds a way.

Just then, a hole suddenly burst open in the ground right beneath Infernape.

"Yuji!" (▼ヘ▼)))Σ≡=─

With a fierce roar, Larvitar, concentrating all its power into its right fist, delivered a massive uppercut to Infernape's chin.

Dig!

The terrifying force of the blow launched Infernape straight into the air. Larvitar's attack, which would have been a mere scratch to a full-health Infernape, became the last straw that broke the camel's back.

When it landed, Infernape's eyes were spinning. It had finally collapsed.

"Yuji!" (´ω`)

Looking at the fallen Infernape, Larvitar's eyes lit up.

I won!

It looked around. Seeing Excadrill, Cradily, and Bronzong all lying motionless, Larvitar's chest swelled with pride.

Big Bro, Big Sis, and Brother Bell are all defeated? Clearly, I'm the MVP!

It then glanced at Infernape, put a foot on its head, raised its claws, and let out an arrogant roar.

Gym Leader-level? Are you that tough? You're still under my foot!

"Yuji!" (▼へ▼メ)

Basalt slapped his forehead and sighed. "He really is Excadrill's little brother. Their signature poses are exactly the same."

Ember, meanwhile, scratched her head, confused. "This Larvitar just seized the opportunity. How is it acting like it defeated Infernape in a fair fight?"

But just then, a white light enveloped Larvitar.

"This is... evolution!"

Basalt and Ember's eyes were instantly drawn to the light. This was a sight they were both extremely familiar with.

"This evolution came at the perfect time!" Basalt was overjoyed, his eyes shining.

A normal Larvitar needs to continuously eat to accumulate the massive amount of energy required for evolution—enough to "eat an entire mountain," according to the Pokédex. Since Pupitar has no mouth, this accumulation must happen early. This is why Larvitar's pre-evolutionary stage usually lasts for a very long time.

But Basalt's Larvitar was different. It had consumed the Smooth Rock Crystal. The energy inside was so pure and abundant that Larvitar didn't need to suppress itself; it just needed to follow its natural course.

Within the white light, Larvitar's body began to transform.

First, its size. It grew taller and thicker, more than doubling in size.

Next, its face. Several sharp spikes grew from its head, and its torso became more robust.

Finally, its limbs. They retracted and shortened. Its upper limbs vanished, and its lower limbs were reduced to two small protrusions.

"Pu-pi!"

With a low roar, the light dissipated, revealing Larvitar's new form.

No, it should be called Pupitar now.

Pupitar resembled a green, insect-like pupa, completely covered in a rigid, grayish-blue shell. Its eyes were red, peering out through two holes in the shell. There were two other triangular holes above its eyes, and four large spikes grew from the sides of its head, with three smaller ones on its forehead.

"Pupitar!" Basalt was overjoyed and quickly rushed forward to hug it.

Compared to Larvitar, Pupitar was much larger and gave off a greater sense of oppression. Not only that, but Pupitar's shell was much harder, and its defense had surged.

"Pu-pi!"

Although it had lost the ability to show expression, Basalt could sense Pupitar's happiness. It had finally evolved!

Thud! Thud! Thud!

Pupitar quickly broke away from Basalt's embrace and began to bounce excitedly, adapting to its new form. Although it was a pupa, Pupitar did not lose its mobility like Metapod or Kakuna. On the contrary, its movement had improved. As it bounced faster and faster, a strong stream of air suddenly shot out from the hole at its base. The reaction force propelled it into the air.

Pupitar was flying!

"Pupitar can fly?"

Ember had never seen a Pupitar fly, and her eyes were wide with disbelief. Pupitar were so rare in the Alliance, and information on them was limited.

Basalt wasn't surprised. He explained, "Pupitar can fly by jetting compressed gas from the hole in its shell."

"Pupitar, be careful! Don't crash into anything!" Basalt quickly warned. He didn't mind if it hit a rock or a tree, but it absolutely could not hit him or Ember. With Pupitar's hundreds of pounds of weight, it could easily kill a person.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Flying wildly and crashing into everything, Pupitar became a force of destruction. In just a few moments of adapting, it had already smashed countless trees and rocks.

"Although Pupitar looks like a pupa, its strength is immense, and its destructive power is off the charts. When it rages, it can even cause a mountain to collapse. It's a dangerous Pokémon," Basalt said with a chuckle. "Its shell is incredibly hard, so you don't have to worry about it hurting itself."

But seeing Pupitar's seemingly endless energy, Basalt's face fell again.

In the wild, Pupitar could destroy anything it wanted. But what about when they went home? What about school?

When it came to demolition, a single Pupitar could probably outdo ten Huskies. As far as Basalt knew, Pupitar were extremely volatile. They would fly around and cause chaos to relieve stress until they evolved. It was a major headache for trainers.

"Alright, alright, Pupitar, come back!" Seeing that Pupitar was used to its new body, Basalt quickly recalled it.

"Pu-pi!" Pupitar whined, clearly unhappy that its fun was cut short. But might is right. It had to return to the Pokéball.

"Finally, a moment of peace." Holding the Ultra Ball, Basalt felt a mixture of pride and dread. Tyranitar was more destructive, but it was mature and relatively obedient. Pupitar was different. It was an adolescent—volatile and destructive.

"This is going to be tough."

Basalt shook his head. He first fed Revives to Excadrill, Bronzong, and Marshtomp to help them recover and wake up. For Cradily, he noticed it was still semi-conscious. A few roots were still connected to the ground, absorbing energy.

"It still hasn't fainted?" Ember was shocked. Its vitality is too strong!

Basalt quickly replaced the Revive with a dose of Fountain of Life water and used a Potion spray to treat its external wounds. Finally, he gave Infernape a Revive.

"They should all wake up soon." Without a Revive, it would take a Pokémon at least half an hour to wake up. With one, the time was drastically reduced.

Clapping his hands, Basalt took out his Pokédex and scanned Pupitar's Ultra Ball. "Now's the time to check out Pupitar's new moves!"
