Chapter 319 - Chapter 320: Leavanny's Dance

Chapter 320: Leavanny's Dance

"As expected of Bator! He secured the win, no problem."

"That Hippowdon is a beast! It broke Larvitar's special quicksand right at the start. So strong!"

"The Desert God protects us!"

"Bator, I love you!"

Bator's first victory sent the Roba Tribe crowd into a frenzy. Their cheers were deafening.

Adil, however, raised an eyebrow, silently sighing that they were celebrating too early. He knew that Basalt's true ace was a strange and powerful Excadrill, one that had supposedly evolved using "Feathersteel," making its strength exceptional.

As long as that Excadrill wasn't defeated, no one could say Basalt had lost.

"Outsider, send out your second Pokémon!" Bator crossed his arms, looking down on Basalt from his ring.

Although Larvitar's strength had surprised him, in the end, it was still too weak. If this was all Basalt had, he would be very disappointed.

"As you wish."

Basalt nodded and threw his second Pokéball.

"Brooonz!"

A deep chime rang out as Super Bell's crimson eyes snapped open, a powerful psychic energy washing over the field.

Bronzong's massive size, predictably, caused another commotion, but Basalt was already immune to it.

The battle continued.

"Hippowdon, Yawn!"

"Bronzong, Safeguard!"

Both trainers gave their commands at almost the same time.

Hippowdon released a large, drowsy bubble, but Bronzong had already shrouded itself in a mysterious power. Even if the Yawn bubble hit, it would have no effect.

"This is troublesome," Bator frowned.

His Hippowdon was at its worst when fighting flying Pokémon. Its ranged attacks were weak; it only really had Rock Tomb to make a showing. And Hippowdon couldn't learn Smack Down.

"In that case... use..." Bator's eyes narrowed, and he roared, "Crunch!"

At his command, the massive Hippowdon began to run, then leaped into the air, opening its giant mouth to bite down on the floating Bronzong.

His Hippowdon might be large, but its explosive power was nothing to scoff at. A sudden burst like this could often catch an opponent off guard.

But just as the dark, massive jaws were about to snap shut, several transparent barriers suddenly appeared in mid-air. Hippowdon slammed head-first into them, its face contorting.

Psychic-type move, Reflect!

"Sand-heck!"

Although Hippowdon had left the Reflect covered in cracks, it also fell from the sky.

"Now, Heavy Slam!"

Basalt's voice rang out, and the crowd saw Bronzong charge forward.

CLANG!

Hippowdon was sent flying. In terms of weight, it was just a lightweight in front of Super Bell.

"Sand-heck!"

Hippowdon landed on its back, its four legs flailing. It was completely dazed from the impact, its body covered in bruises. That one hit from Bronzong was devastatingly powerful.

"Stockpile!"

Unable to attack head-on, Bator changed tactics again, switching to a defensive setup. No matter what, I have to raise my defenses and extend my stamina.

"Heavy Slam, again!"

As Hippowdon crouched, its muscles tensing to store power, Bronzong slammed into it again, pushing its stamina into the red.

Seeing this, the Roba crowd's high spirits instantly plummeted back to the abyss.

But unexpectedly, Bator showed no panic. Instead, his lips curled up. "Hippowdon, Slack Off!"

"Slack Off? That's a recovery move! No wonder Bator didn't care about being attacked. He had an ace up his sleeve."

"Slack Off is so much better than Rest. You don't have to fall asleep."

"Exactly! When a Pokémon is asleep, there are too many variables."

With that one move, the crowd's emotions, which had been at rock bottom, shot back up.

"Slack Off to recover? You think I'll let you?" A cold sneer appeared on Basalt's face.

"Sand-heck..."

Hippowdon relaxed its body, quietly waiting for its stamina to be restored.

But strangely, the recovery never came. The move's effect had vanished into thin air.

"Sand-heck??"

Hippowdon was completely baffled. Was my relaxing posture wrong?

"It's Heal Block!"

From the high platform, Adil had seen it. He had clearly seen a strange light flash in Bronzong's eyes.

"Heal Block? That's an extremely high-level status move! That Bronzong already knows it?" The elders on the platform were shocked.

Attack moves were one thing, but the most difficult moves to master were often the high-impact status moves, like the "Room" moves or Heal Block.

"This Bronzong's psychic power is immense, no weaker than a Pro-level Pokémon. It is not to be underestimated."

Khara-Khan, with his lion-like mane, his eyes wide, had seen Bronzong's true potential. To instantly erect multiple Reflects and then quickly use Heal Block... that was not something an ordinary Pokémon could do.

"Pro-level?" the crowd marveled. "A nineteen-year-old with Pro-level strength?"

The only person to achieve that in the last decade was Adil himself. But the Roba people started training at sixteen. By nineteen, Adil had already been training for over three years. Basalt, however, was an outsider. He had only started training at eighteen. The difference was huge.

BOOM!

Just then, an explosion rocked the field.

Taking advantage of Hippowdon's confusion, Bronzong had unceremoniously used Psychic, easily finishing it off.

Bator frowned deeply. This Bronzong's strength was far beyond his expectations.

Basalt had not disappointed him.

"Go, Leavanny!"

Bator sent out his second Pokémon. It was a Pokémon with a beige-colored body and bright red eyes. It had two long antennae with half-moon tips. Its entire body was wrapped in clothes made of leaves, and the leaf-ends on its arms were like blades.

It was the Bug/Grass dual-type Pokémon—Leavanny!

"Leavanny, String Shot!"

The battle continued. At Bator's command, Leavanny suddenly shot a massive white net of silk from its mouth, aimed at Bronzong.

"Broonz!"

Facing the silk net, Bronzong immediately activated Psychic, catching the silk in its telekinetic grip and stopping it.

Not only that, but Bronzong instantly began to float backward, trying to create distance. Leavanny was agile, but it couldn't fly. Bronzong had the aerial advantage.

But just as Bronzong was retreating, Bator's lips curled up, and Leavanny began to perform a strange dance.

It was a bizarre posture, not Swords Dance or Dragon Dance, nor Feather Dance or Teeter Dance. But it held a strange, magical power that made you want to follow along.

While Basalt was baffled, the airborne Bronzong was affected. It actually began to move to Leavanny's rhythm. A moment later, it simply plummeted from the sky, crashing into the ground and leaving a large crater.

"What's going on?" Basalt was shocked. He had no idea what had just happened.

But his opponent wasn't about to give him time to think.

With a flash of beige, Leavanny closed the distance at a terrifying speed. In the blink of an eye, it was in front of Bronzong. The leaf blades on its arms flashed with a green light as it slashed them in an 'X' shape across Bronzong's "face."

Bug-type move, X-Scissor!

CRASH!

An explosion erupted on Bronzong's body, and a faint mark was left on its "face."

"What terrifying attack power!"

Basalt was stunned.

This Leavanny... it had actually managed to leave a mark on Bronzong.
