Chapter 302: Larvitar's Self-Destructive Path
"No, I'm not continuing. This battle was too frustrating." Finn wore a bitter smile.
Truly, Professor Rowan's years of research had paid off. The Quicksand Domain's effect was easily on par with a Terrain move, if not superior. It had a variety of debuffs for the enemy, multiple buffs for the user, and confused the opponent's underground senses. It was absolutely broken!
"Alright then," Basalt nodded in understanding. From the opponent's perspective, the Quicksand Domain was indeed too much.
"Yuji~" (´ω) Larvitar wasn't happy. I was so fierce today! Why are you stopping the fight? I refuse to accept this!
But Basalt and Finn ignored him. As trainers, they knew that Larvitar's Quicksand Domain could only defeat opponents whose strength was similar or slightly superior. If the difference in power was too vast, the opponent could break the domain easily. Larvitar had only won because Krokorok hadn't evolved yet, and he had exploited that weakness.
Waving goodbye to Finn, Basalt led Larvitar back to their training dune. Settling into a shaded area, Basalt went back to planning Quicksand Domain tactics, completely missing the lingering frustration on Larvitar's face. The little guy wanted to fight. He wanted to continue showing off his strength!
"Yuji~" And so, the overly confident Larvitar turned its attention to its big siblings: Excadrill, Bronzong, and Cradily. After observing for a long time, Larvitar fixed its gaze on Excadrill. If I'm going to fight, I'll fight the strongest. That's the most satisfying!
"Yuji~" Larvitar approached Excadrill. "Dro-lisk?" Excadrill's head buzzed when it heard Larvitar's request. This little brother wants to challenge me? He's got guts!

The two Pokémon took their stances. As the senior, Excadrill allowed Larvitar to attack first.
"Yuji~" Larvitar didn't hold back. It immediately activated "Resonance" and its "Sand Stream" ability, creating the Quicksand Domain. In the domain, Excadrill, though not moving, was dragged into a spin and pulled towards the center of the quicksand vortex.
"Dro-lisk~" Excadrill looked on with envy. This is the fully functioning Quicksand Domain! It's amazing! Even with his Smooth Rock Crystal, he was still a grade lower than Larvitar in controlling sand.
But defeating him with this level of Quicksand Domain? Larvitar was definitely looking down on him.
RUMBLE!
Excadrill's immense Ground-type energy erupted. That energy was far more potent than Krokorok's. In an instant, Larvitar's Quicksand Domain was broken, and all the sand returned to its original state. At the same time, Excadrill turned into a blur and shot towards Larvitar, sending him flying before he could even react.
Too fast! Everything happened in a flash!
"Yuji~" By the time he landed, Larvitar's eyes were spinning. He was knocked out.
"Dro-lisk~" Excadrill shook his head. The little brother is still too green.
"Nida~" Cradily, seeing the scene, quickly summoned a "Life Dew" to help Larvitar recover.
But Larvitar made an unbelievable decision. He aimed his gaze at Cradily.
"Yuji~" Larvitar pointed at Cradily: I challenge you!
Excadrill was a Ground-type with immensely powerful Earthquake, capable of breaking the domain easily. But Cradily wasn't. It didn't even know Earthquake. If it used Stomp, the power would be too weak to break the Quicksand Domain. I can definitely win this one! In that case, let's go all in! If I can't be the big brother, being the third-in-command is still progress.
"Nida?" Cradily was baffled. Are you serious?
Larvitar nodded solemnly. And so, Cradily accepted the challenge.
Larvitar created the Quicksand Domain again. But very quickly, he realized something was wrong. It was getting harder and harder to make the sand spin and flow. The resistance was immense, and the speed slowed drastically.
"Yuji~" Larvitar was shocked. What the hell is going on now?
Larvitar looked closely and finally understood. Roots had shot out from Cradily's base, weaving into the quicksand. This was like planting countless pilings in the sand, severely hindering its movement.
Then, two roots wrapped around Larvitar. His stamina was quickly drained, and his eyes spun. He was knocked out again.
Second battle, another loss. Without Cradily's help, Larvitar took half an hour to recover.
After much thought, the unwilling Larvitar set his sights on Bronzong. I'm definitely winning this one!
"Yuji~" o(￣ε￣) Larvitar was sure of it. Super Bell's Stomp was weak, and it didn't use Ingrain. It couldn't break the Quicksand Domain.
As they say, the greater the hope, the greater the disappointment. Larvitar died even faster against Super Bell. He didn't even get a chance to use the Quicksand Domain. The battle started, and he was immediately put to sleep.
Battle over!
Defeat after defeat. Little Larvitar's confidence was shattered. He ran to Basalt, crying for comfort, leaving Basalt completely bewildered.
"Didn't you just master the Quicksand Domain and defeat Senior Finn's Krokorok? That's a huge victory! Why are you crying?" Basalt was at a loss.
Not understanding the reason, Basalt could only comfort Larvitar like a baby until he finally stopped crying.
Soothing Larvitar, Basalt noticed the sky darkening. He quickly called Cradily to the water source, ready to replenish their reserves. This was routine now.
"Nida~" Cradily's Storm Drain ability activated, and water soon seeped out of the top of the dune, flowing into the pit.
RUMBLE!
But just as the pool was about to be full, the ground under Cradily suddenly collapsed without warning. It formed a quicksand pit, swallowing the nearby pool completely. All the stored water was absorbed into the sand. Fortunately, no one was injured.
"Again? How many times has this happened?" Basalt frowned. Since Cradily began drawing water, the outpost's water problem was solved, but a strange phenomenon had started. Whenever Cradily drew too much water from the same spot, the dune inevitably collapsed, just like when he first fetched water at the Ghost City.
"Once or twice could be a coincidence. But this has happened a dozen times. It's definitely not a coincidence." Basalt muttered, then a lightbulb went off in his head. Could water actually accelerate the movement of sand?
