Chapter 22 - Battle at Shadowfell 2

As the dark energy dissipated, William and Pearl's shield held strong, protecting the human army from the worst of the demon's attacks. Thalia and Maru took advantage of the reprieve, pressing their attack against the demon creature.

The creature stumbled, its dark energy aura faltering as it absorbed the blows. Asmodeus' face twisted in rage as he watched one of his most powerful minion fall.

"Fall back!" he roared, his voice echoing across the battlefield. "Regroup and recharge! I'll finish this myself!"

The demons began to retreat, their lines wavering as they fell back to regroup. The Daris army, sensing victory, pressed their advantage. Thalia and Maru pursued the demon creature, determined to finish it off.

But the mysterious woman had one last trick up her sleeve. With a wave of her hand, she summoned a dark portal, a swirling vortex of energy that seemed to pull the very fabric of reality apart.

The demon creature stumbled toward the portal, its dark energy aura surging wildly as it leapt through the swirling darkness. Thalia and Maru followed, their eyes fixed on their quarry.

As they emerged on the other side of the portal, they found themselves in a twisted, nightmarish realm. The air was thick with dark energy, and the ground seemed to writhe and twist beneath their feet.

"Where are we?" Maru whispered, his eyes scanning the surroundings.

Thalia's face was grim. "I don't know, but I think we're in the underworld itself."

The demon creature was nowhere to be seen, but Azghor's voice echoed through the darkness. "Welcome, mortals. You'll make fine additions to our army."

Suddenly, the ground erupted with twisted, nightmarish creatures, their eyes glowing with dark energy. Thalia and Maru readied themselves for battle, but they knew they were in for the fight of their lives.

Izalea stood tall, her eyes fixed on the swirling portal. She knew she had to act fast to counter the demonic arcaneum. With a swift motion, she drew a intricate rune in the air, and a burst of water shot forth.

The symbol, known as the Star of Atlantis , glowed with a soft blue light as it intersected with the dark portal. Izalea's magic began to unravel the portal's dark energy, weakening its hold on the fabric of reality.

As the portal began to dissipate, Izalea seized the opportunity to launch a counterattack. She summoned a blast of magical energy, imbued with the essence of the Star of Atlantis . The energy shot toward Azghor, who stumbled backward as he absorbed the blow.

Azghor's eyes narrowed, his face twisted in a snarl. "You think you can defeat me, little Paladin?" he spat, his voice dripping with venom. "I'll show you the true power of the underworld!"

With a wave of his hand, Azghor summoned a wave of dark energy, sending it crashing toward Izalea. But the young Paladin was ready. She raised her hands, and a shield of glittering clear water erupted around her, protecting her from the attack.

The shield held strong, repelling the dark energy as Izalea began to weave her arcaneum into an attack. This one would be more powerful, more complex, and more devastating.

As the magic built up, the air around Izalea began to shimmer and glow. The Star of Atlantis pulsed with energy, amplifying Izalea's attack. The young paladin's eyes blazed with determination, her focus fixed on defeating Azghor and shattering the demon's hold on the battlefield.

As the demon army faltered, Asmodeus strode onto the battlefield, his eyes locked onto Charles. But Charles was no ordinary human commander. He had made a pact with dark forces, granting him the first vampiric powers and that made him a formidable opponent.

Charles eyes glowed with an unnatural hunger, his fangs bared in a snarl. His skin was deathly pale, and his muscles rippled beneath his lightweight armor like a living shadow. Asmodeus sneered, but a flicker of unease danced in his eyes.

"You think your dark powers make you strong, Charles ?" Asmodeus taunted. "I'll show you the true meaning of darkness!"

The two enemies clashed, their powers and blows meeting in a blur of steel and sparks. But Charles' vampiric powers gave him an unnatural advantage. He moved with supernatural speed, his strikes landing with precision and force.

Asmodeus stumbled backward, his eyes widening in shock as Charles' fangs sank into his shoulder. The demon commander roared in pain as Charles' vampiric powers coursed through his veins, draining his strength.

He managed to free himself from Charles' embrace and readied himself. He had underestimated Charles who he thought was inferior to Brane devastating powers.

"I belittled you and I'm beginning to regret that" he growled and released an enormous amount of aura which would have crippled the Daris army with the exception of the Delta Paladins and Charles but because of Will and Pearl's barrier, they remained safe.

Asmodeus had a tricky ability up his sleeve - the power to manipulate dark rose thorns thus earning him the name Dark Rose Monarch.

Asmodeus summoned a wave of dark rose thorns that wrapped around Charles' hand, attempting to drain his strength.

The thorns seemed to come alive, twisting and writhing like living serpents. Charles' eyes narrowed as he focused his powers, and broke free from the thorns' grasp.

But Asmodeus was relentless, summoning more thorns to bind Charles' arms and legs. The vampire commander's movements slowed, his speed waning under the thorns' draining effect.

Just as all hope seemed lost, Charles' vampiric powers surged, allowing him to break free from the thorns' grasp. He launched a powerful counterattack, his fangs bared in a fierce snarl that screamed, "don't underestimate me!"

The battle raged on, the two enemies exchanging blows and neither gaining the upper hand. But Asmodeus's dark rose thorns gave him an edge, making him a formidable opponent.

Just then a strong familiar aura surged across the battlefield, making everyone gasp in shock. A strong and powerful force had just woken up.
