Looking at the piccolo in front of him, Char's eyes lit up. He remembered the incredible promotion of his legendary power and legendary life when he had wrestled with the Kraken. Just a few collisions had given him more improvement than all his previous training combined. If he could use the piccolo to find the Kraken again, his two legendary abilities might be able to make further progress toward the mythical level.
In addition, the Kraken itself was an extremely powerful external force, far exceeding creatures like the three-headed dog or the dragon. The Cerberus that had given the two-faced man so much trouble would have been torn to pieces by the Kraken at sea. If he could tame the Kraken, or even just reach a cooperative agreement with it, he could catch the two-faced man completely off guard and make him suffer a big loss. Before, this idea had been impossible to implement. But now, with this piccolo, it was feasible.
He took a deep breath, his previous annoyance swept away. His eyes then fell on the other items in the package. The first things that caught his eye were some plant seeds collected by Porgy Charlemagne.
"Porgy Charlemagne always wanted to prove himself a true master of Herbology," Eugene explained. "So he thought he should collect more rare plant seeds, like other masters. He collected these from everywhere over the years. I don't recognize them, but I thought they might be useful to you."
Char looked at the seeds, a hint of surprise in his eyes. He carefully distinguished them, and his eyes grew brighter and brighter. He had seen most of the seeds before, from Professor Sprout. Many of them could provide Silver-level rewards. While he could also get them from his aunt, this would save him a lot of trouble. And Porgy, in his years of collecting, had actually obtained some rare seeds that Char had never seen before.
He carefully picked up a yellow seed with many fine hairs on it. "These should be foxglove seeds," he murmured. "An extremely precious herb that can be used to brew certain spiritual potions. It's especially effective against the aftereffects of Dementors. But this plant is also very rare, only growing in places where a lot of negative emotions are gathered. You can imagine how dangerous those places are. Even my aunt didn't have foxglove seeds, but I didn't expect to get them from Porgy Charlemagne."
His eyes fell on the foxglove seeds, and he saw the prompt on his system panel.
You have obtained foxglove seeds.
[Successfully plant it and receive rewards: Negative Spirit Magic Resistance (Silver Level) and Curse Resistance (Bronze Level)]
[Cultivate it to maturity, the rewards will be upgraded to: Negative Mental Magic Resistance (Gold Level), Curse Resistance (Silver Level), and a Few Thoughts on the Patronus Spell (Bronze Level)]
Char's eyes suddenly lit up. The rewards provided by foxglove were quite practical. He already had Chalati seeds, which provided a spiritual strengthening bonus. Now, with foxglove, he could gain resistance to negative mental magic. With the two combined, spells like the Imperius Curse would probably have little effect on him. Curse resistance was also critical. The curse limit in the magical world was too high, and sometimes hard to guard against. If he wasn't careful, even Dumbledore could fall victim to dark magic. More curse resistance was another guarantee for his safety. As for the insights into the Patronus Charm after growing foxglove to maturity, there was no need to say more. In his third year, a large number of Dementors would appear at Hogwarts. And after Voldemort's return, Dementors would become more common in the wizarding world. The Patronus Charm was absolutely necessary. He had intended to practice it when the time was right, and now, he had the foxglove seeds. If he could just cultivate some before his third year, the accumulated rewards should allow him to deal with the Dementors easily.
A smile appeared on his face. Not counting the other seeds, just this one foxglove seed made the harvest worth it.
His eyes fell on a bag next to it. It contained more seeds, but they were all ordinary ones, though they all exuded the aura of Dark Magic Transfiguration. Obviously, these were the seeds that Porgy had carefully processed at home, ready to be used to quickly create flesh-and-blood plants when needed. For some wizards, these seeds might be quite useful, a powerful tool. But for Char, Porgy's handling of them was too crude. He didn't care about them. Even if he had to use this method, he would choose to transform and process some seeds himself.
However, a piece of parchment in the bag piqued his interest. It contained some crookedly written words, a record of a kind of dark magic transformation that used flesh and blood to transform plant seeds. Porgy had known nothing of the art of Dark Magic Transfiguration; he had just memorized the spell, his skill crude and unrefined. He naturally couldn't see the brilliance of the knowledge recorded on the parchment. But with Char's accomplishments, he immediately recognized the hand of a true master. When it came to Dark Magic Transfiguration, especially the part of using flesh and blood to transform plants, the wizard who had written this parchment had already achieved a profound level of skill, far surpassing Char's own.
A strange look appeared in his eyes. He hadn't expected that among the wizards who had learned Dark Magic Transfiguration, there would be some who were interested in Herbology. He had previously had the idea of using the art to cultivate plant variants. The wizard who wrote this parchment must have been on a similar path. Char's heart skipped a beat. If he could communicate with this person, exchange some knowledge, it might be of some unexpected help to his own plant cultivation.
"Did Porgy Charlemagne ever say from whom he got this parchment?" he asked Eugene.
Eugene shook his head, then nodded again. "He never brought it up. But once, when he was drunk, I heard him cursing the dark wizards of Knockturn Alley, saying they were the kind who squeezed gold Galleons out of bone waste, even more greedy than goblins. He vaguely mentioned the dark wizard's name. It seems it was Ed, but I don't know his exact surname. It was probably a pseudonym."
Char took this information to heart. He would have to look for this "Ed" in Knockturn Alley if he got the chance. The wizard had sold all his research results to Porgy, which meant he was very short of money. Perhaps his research had reached a critical moment. Maybe he could use this clue to lure him out later.
He carefully examined the other items in the package. There was little left of value: some gold coins, silver coins, gems, and so on. He gave them all to Eugene.
"I have no use for these gold and silver coins. But I imagine you served in the Charlemagne family for so many years and suffered so much abuse. The money left by Porgy is just enough to pay your wages and compensation for your mental damages. Also, I seem to have heard that house-elves can only wear respectable clothing with their master's permission. But now you have no master, or rather, you are your own master. You can make yourself a decent set of clothes."
Eugene just stood there. Even though he had regained his freedom, he had never thought about wages or compensation. He had never even thought about getting himself some clothes. When Char told him this, it felt like he was dreaming.
Seeing him like this, Char shook his head helplessly. Then he seemed to remember something. "Never mind. Now that Porgy Charlemagne has just died, if you go out to purchase things, you might cause some unnecessary trouble. If you don't mind, I have a friend called Hagrid who is very good at making clothes out of fur. It may not look that good, but it's absolutely amazing for keeping out the wind and the cold. If it's okay, I'd like to ask him to do you a favor and make one for you?"
Eugene wiped away his tears. "At your service, my dear young Mr. Sprout. You have given Eugene a new life. Eugene will definitely repay you."
Char smiled. While Eugene was still wiping his tears, he looked at the last thing left in the package. It was an extremely gorgeous box, made of hollow gold and silver, engraved with exquisite reliefs, and seemingly enchanted with some dust-proof and waterproof magic. You could tell at a glance that it was not an ordinary thing.
"Eugene, what's in this box?" Char asked curiously.
But Eugene just shook his head. "I have no idea. Porgy Charlemagne never let me touch this. I couldn't even get close. I was cleaning once when I went near the room where the box was, and he nearly beat me to death."
Hearing this, Char became more and more surprised and curious. It was obvious that Porgy valued this box very much, even more than the parchment that recorded the dark magic of transfiguration. What could be inside? With a little curiosity, he carefully opened the box. The scene that came into view made him stunned.
"Huh? This is—"
