Chapter Fifty-Five: The Empty Bed
"I wonder…" Reign was sitting on the edge of the long beige couch in the nursery, elbows on his knees, focusing on the twins.
Aurora was hugging a small stuffed owl, her chubby cheeks puffed as she stared at her brother.
Aron had one sock off, the other half hanging on his tiny foot. His eyes were sparkling as he tried to pull the owl away from Aurora.
'She hides cookies in the owl's belly,' Aron whispered.
'I do not!' Aurora snapped, hugging the owl tighter. 'You're a liar, Aron!'
'You are the liar!' Aron crossed his arms. 'You said the doctor smells like burnt toast.'
'He does!' Aurora huffed. 'And he talks weird like a snake.'
Reign narrowed his eyes. 'What are they talking about? The doctor?'
The twins continued their strange conversation, completely unaware that Reign could hear every word. Reign had kept it secret from everyone, including them.
'Should we tell Reign that something's wrong?' Aurora asked, suddenly quiet.
