Chapter 1 - Academic

Looking at the long queue ahead, Jack knew that it would take a lot of time before his turn arrived. So, he took out his phone from his left pocket. While browsing the net, he looked for any current news that might be related to his parents' disappearance ten years ago—before the epic battle that had scattered a huge part of the world.

Before he knew it, his turn to be admitted came.

"Name?" a tall but slim man asked. He looked like he might die at any moment, with reddened eyes. One thing was certain: the aura of death around him was so intense that if one guided their chinka through their eyes, they would be able to see the slightly unnatural things happening around him.

As the aura of death wrapped him like a cloak, without a doubt, his summoning must deal with necromancy.

"Jack Everstone."

"Age?"

"Seventeen, sir."

"Summon?"

"Dragon, sir."

"Rank?"

"Gold, I think, sir."

"Interesting," the man who seemed to be on his last breath murmured to himself. But Jack, being familiar with body language, couldn't help but smile.

"Place your hand on that dull stone over there. If it glows even the slightest, congratulations—you'll officially become a student of this school."

On hearing this, Jack quickly became excited—but his excitement died down just as fast as it came.

It can't be that simple, Jack thought, as he circulated his chinka across his body to calm himself.

Placing his hand on the dull stone, it shook for a moment before returning to stillness. Ding! Red, yellow, and finally blue—those were the three lights that shone before the stone went back to its lifeless and dull color. Seemingly disappointed, the dying man tossed a jade-like pendant to Jack.

"Congrats," he said, before turning to the next in line.

Looking at the jade pendant, Jack could only sigh before walking toward his room. The pendant flashed occasionally, indicating whether he was headed in the right direction.

"Fuck, did that man scam me?" Jack couldn't help but sigh in frustration. I've been walking for half a day, and still no sign of my room.

Just how big is this school?

As Jack was lamenting, the jade pendant in his hand shone brightly. Looking around in confusion, all he could see was a grave—with the actual head of a dragon on it. At that instant, the dragon in his beast space roared, seemingly provoked.

The dragon head on the grave, which was giving off immense pressure as though it looked down on all souls, suddenly disappeared and reappeared in his beast-taming space inside his heart. The beast-taming space was like a separate dimension within a beast tamer's body, used for storing their beast or summon—where they could regain energy faster than in the outside world.

Putting part of his consciousness into his beast space, Jack saw that his dragon was furiously biting the dragon head, which had enlarged to the size of a mountain.

"Digest it little by little, or you might choke," Jack said.

On hearing Jack's words, the hungry dragon began eating more gently, slowly digesting the excess of the dragon.
