Chapter 70 — Freya's Indifference
In the heart of Orario stood one of the city's most renowned Familia—Ganesha Familia.
They were well-known not just for their numbers, but for the impressive collective strength that ranked them among the elites. Recognized as an S-Rank Familia, they received direct requests from the Guild to maintain order across the city. It was no surprise they were nicknamed the Honor Guards of the Labyrinth City.
Over the past few days, Orario had been shaken by a series of brutal killings—more than ten confirmed incidents. And without exception, all the victims were members of Freya Familia, most of them Level 2 or Level 3 adventurers.
Such an event couldn't go unnoticed.
Given their role as Orario's unofficial peacekeepers, Ganesha Familia had no choice but to intervene.
This morning, the deity Ganesha himself, accompanied by his trusted Familia captain, Shakti Varma, extended a formal summons to Freya, asking her to appear in person.
There was only one objective: to ask if she had any leads regarding the murders.
After all, every single victim belonged to Freya Familia. There was no way this wasn't a targeted assault. This wasn't a random skirmish—it was a pattern. A deliberate one.
What made it worse were the missing adventurers.
Reports had come in that several members of Freya Familia had also vanished inside the Dungeon and never returned.
There was no concrete evidence yet—but the pattern was all too familiar. These people weren't just missing. They were being hunted.
That's why Ganesha had labeled the entire case a serious serial murder investigation.
Orario had endured something like this before. Years ago, the dark days of Evilus had left a deep scar on the city. The memory still lingered, raw and unhealed.
And now, it was happening again.
"Lady Freya, do you have any information regarding these incidents?"
Shakti Varma's voice was firm, her presence unwavering. A Level 5 adventurer and captain of Ganesha Familia, she was taking this matter seriously—and personally.
"I'm afraid not," Freya replied, her tone light and gentle, wearing that serene smile she was famous for. "Perhaps it's simple jealousy. Our Familia has grown rather quickly in recent years… Naturally, envy is bound to follow."
"I see..."
The response was smooth. Too smooth.
Both Ganesha and Shakti knew it—she was lying.
It wasn't even a well-hidden lie. Freya clearly had no intention of cooperating. They were almost certain she knew who was behind the killings.
But since the victims were from her own Familia, and she wasn't pursuing any retribution, there was nothing they could legally do.
Freya remained poised. Unbothered. That gentle smile never left her lips—not even when speaking about her own Familia members being slaughtered.
This was who Freya truly was.
To her, things—or people—who no longer shone, who no longer held value… were meaningless.
Even if they died, they were just discarded lights in her ever-growing collection.
Of course, there was a flicker of disappointment. Some of those victims were once the "chosen"—some even shared her bed for a night, a rare favor from the Goddess of Beauty.
But even that didn't warrant grief.
Freya, as a goddess, was far beyond mortal emotions. Sorrow? It wasn't something she was capable of feeling for humans in the Lower World.
Beside her, Ottar, her loyal first-class adventurer and right hand, remained silent—but internally, even he was shaken.
Shin Akira's vengeance had been calculated. Ruthless. Personal.
He didn't have the strength to take Ottar head-on, so he targeted the weaker links—the adventurers scattered across the city and Dungeon.
And within mere days—thirty-two members of Freya Familia had vanished.
Fifteen confirmed killed in Orario. Seventeen missing, likely dead, in the Dungeon.
No mercy. No traces. Just efficient elimination.
"Lady Freya, are you absolutely sure you have no leads?" Ganesha pressed again, clearly frustrated.
"I'm sorry, Ganesha," Freya responded, voice soft but utterly insincere. "Perhaps someone out there holds a grudge against me. That's all I can think of."
"Very well. Apologies for troubling you."
"Think nothing of it."
With a polite nod, Freya rose to leave—her expression still completely unfazed.
To her, this wasn't a tragedy. It was nothing more than a passing breeze.
Ganesha and Shakti silently watched as Freya and Ottar exited the chamber.
"Ganesha-sama, what now?" Shakti asked, visibly conflicted. "We don't even know where to start."
"We don't do anything, Shakti."
"Huh? Why?"
"Because this is beyond us now," Ganesha said, voice uncharacteristically grave. "We're not meddling in this one."
"But it's a mass murder case—"
"Let it go."
"...But why?"
"Shakti, Freya knows who's behind this."
"Then why won't she say it?!"
"Because gods, Shakti... gods are selfish creatures. They don't think like us. If they feel like it, they can burn down a city on a whim."
Shakti's lips parted slightly, stunned.
Murder, just because they feel like it?
It was hard to accept. But true.
Gods and mortals were different—not just in power, but in perspective. Their thoughts, their values, their sense of morality… were alien to the people below.
And as Freya stepped away from Ganesha's domain, a quiet, dangerous smile curled on her lips.
"Ottar... do you think this is his way of making a statement? Or just plain revenge?"
"Revenge," Ottar answered without hesitation. "He's not the kind of man who forgives betrayal."
"So… that means you're the next target, doesn't it?"
Freya gave him a sidelong glance. It had been Ottar who, at her command, had attempted to "train" Shin Akira… with force.
"If I were his target, he'd have already come for me."
"True... That boy is ruthless, but not reckless. He keeps his vengeance measured. All those Level 2 and 3 adventurers were insignificant compared to us."
"Should we restrict our members from moving alone for a while?"
"No need. Just warn them to stay cautious. Let him do what he wishes."
"..."
"Ottar, you see it too, don't you?" she whispered, her voice soft but laced with something dangerous. "He's the only mortal who's ever truly struck back at me. Even you… you don't compare."
Her eyes gleamed like a calm spring—beautiful, seductive, but deep and cold.
Freya, the Goddess of Desire, had found something—or rather, someone—interesting again.
And for her… that made all the difference.
