As soon as Nova came into focus, things changed. The two soldiers looked as if they had been smacked.
The cocky grins vanished, replaced by the pale realization that something had gone very, very wrong.
He was alive.
More than that—untouched.
Anna blinked up at Nova, then turned slowly toward the two soldiers who had brought them here. They were already backing away, nervous laughter spilling from their mouths.
"W-Well, you passed. Looks like you're stronger than we thought. We'll just go report this to the higher-ups—"
One of them stammered.
They didn't get to finish.
Nova raised one hand and gave a short flick of his fingers.
Anna moved.
In one smooth motion, she reached into her belt and pulled out the compact taser she'd hidden there earlier.
With a quick step forward, she pressed it against the first soldier's side. A sharp crackle echoed in the air as the current dropped him like a puppet with cut strings.
