Chapter 13 - Ch13: Call from Doctor

Finn answered the phone, the chill of the late hour creeping into his bones. The conversation was quick, but the weight of it hung in the air like a storm cloud. Leon's voice trembled as he spoke just after the call ended. "Finn... what happened? Is she okay?" The urgency in his tone was palpable, for a hospital call at this time felt ominous.

"Leo, the doctor asked you to visit him… now, if possible." Finn's own concern shadowed his face. He knew she was in no immediate danger, but something troubling had occurred; the doctor's anxiety was clear, his gaze unsettling. Leon nodded solemnly and scooped up Mumu, his little boy. Finn took the wheel, the car slicing through the shadows of the night. Every thought twisted into anxiety as he replayed the doctor's voice in his head. Why was the call so pressing? Each possibility felt darker than the last, and the weight of each thought consumed him.

'What could be so grave that he needed us here at this hour?' Finn mused, trying to calm the brewing storm in his mind. Leon was preoccupied, managing Mumu's soft snores, blissfully unaware of the turmoil that awaited them. A flicker of relief passed through Finn as he saw Leon smile at Mumu; maybe bringing him was a wise choice after all.

As they arrived at the hospital, Mumu slept soundly, his small frame clinging to Leon's hand. He entrusted him to the security guards of Deskmore, urgency flooding his movements as he approached the doctor's office. Finn's heart raced when they stepped inside. The doctor was already there, his expression grave.

"Doctor…" Leon called out, pushing the door open abruptly.

"Yes... I called you to discuss an important matter regarding the patient. Has she been taking any medications…?"

"Do vitamin tablets count?" Leon answered, trying to maintain a façade of calm.

The doctor's gaze intensified. "I mean, has she taken any psychiatric drugs?"

"Psychiatric?! What do you mean, doctor?" Leon's voice cracked, a mix of disbelief and fear.

"I doubt... She is suffering from depression..." The doctor's voice was heavy with concern, a shadow of worry crossing his features.

"Doctor... I know she is a bit introverted but not depressed..." Leon's voice trembled, a mix of denial and fear swirling in his chest.

"Look... Today, when the nurses rubbed her body, they found some marks on her hands, and they informed me. So I did a detail check up...

Her whole body was covered with wounds... Self-harmed wounds..."

"She... hurt herself," Leon said softly, his voice trembling as sadness washed over him.

"At first, I thought it was perinatal depression since she had just given birth, but to go to the extent of self-harm... that's an unimaginable level of pain. The fact that no one noticed her suffering is heartbreaking. In my worry, I reached out to the psychiatric department, and their report just came in." He handed over a file, his hands shaking slightly.
