Chapter 73 - CHAPTER SEVENTY THREE: The Shifting Sands

As they prepared to face the trial of earth, the group stood before a vast, barren landscape that stretched out before them like an endless desert. The ground beneath their feet was dry and cracked, and the air was thick with the scent of dust and sand. The statue's voice echoed in their minds, "This is the trial of earth. You must navigate through the shifting sands and find the ancient ruin that lies at the heart of the desert. But be warned, the desert is full of dangers, and you will need all your skills and cunning to succeed."

The group nodded, their determination and confidence evident in their eyes. They knew that this trial would be challenging, but they were ready to face it head-on.

"I'll take the lead," Gidado said, his voice filled with confidence. "I'll use the artifact's power to sense the hidden paths and avoid the dangers that lie ahead."

With that, Gidado raised his hands, and a subtle glow emanated from the artifact. The group followed, their senses heightened as they navigated through the shifting sands. The desert itself was a treacherous terrain, with hidden crevices and pitfalls waiting to trap the unwary. But with Gidado's guidance, they were able to avoid the dangers and press on.

As they journeyed deeper into the desert, the group encountered various obstacles, including massive sandstorms and treacherous rock formations. But with their combined strength and the artifact's power, they were able to overcome each challenge and emerge stronger on the other side.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the group saw a glimmer of stone in the distance. As they approached, they saw the ancient ruin, its crumbling stones covered in intricate carvings and mysterious symbols. The group knew that they had passed the trial of earth, and they felt a sense of pride and accomplishment.

The statue's voice echoed in their minds once again, "Well done, travelers. You have passed the trial of earth. You have demonstrated your mastery over the elements, and you are one step closer to unlocking the gates of Agwankaya."

After passing the trial of earth, the group continued through the vast and varied landscape. They had been walking for some time when they suddenly heard a chorus of high-pitched voices coming from all directions. The voices were tiny, yet loud, and seemed to be moving at incredible speed. The words were indistinguishable, but the tone was unmistakable - a cacophony of squeaks and chirps that seemed to be warning of danger.

The group quickly positioned themselves back to back, ready to face whatever was coming their way. As the voices drew closer, they became louder and more intense, and the group could feel the air vibrating with the sound.

Finally, the owners of the voices came into view. At first, they appeared as tiny insects in the distance, but as they drew closer, the group saw that they were actually rats - flying rats. The group's jaws dropped in amazement as the rats hovered in mid-air, their tiny wings beating rapidly as they moved.

"What!" Amina exclaimed, her voice barely above a whisper. Gidado and Bisola echoed her sentiment, their voices full of wonder and surprise. "Rats... flying!"

The group stood frozen in amazement, their eyes fixed on the flying rats. As the rats arrived at the spot where the group stood, their voices suddenly died down. One of the rats leaned forward, its beady eyes scanning the group as it moved around them.

Avovome, who had been patient until now, was starting to lose its composure. Mike, sensing this, placed a restraining hand on Avovome's arm, signaling it to wait. Avovome's eyes flashed with annoyance, but it managed to restrain itself, for the moment.

The rat that had leaned forward seemed to be studying the group, its movements deliberate and calculated. The group held their breath, waiting to see what the rat would do next. Would it attack, or was it simply curious?
