Jake's POV
Jake threw his toy truck across the room and watched it hit the wall.
"Jake!" his mom said sharply. "That's not nice."
"I don't care!" Jake yelled back. "I don't like it here!"
They'd been at the big Sterling house for three hours, and Jake hated every minute. All the grown-ups kept talking about his dad and some lady called Victoria and his missing sister Lily. Nobody was paying attention to him except to tell him to be quiet.
And then there was Emma.
Emma was three years old with dark hair and green eyes just like Jake's. She kept following him around, trying to play with his toys.
"Jake, wanna play blocks?" Emma asked for the millionth time.
"No! Go away!"
Emma's bottom lip started to shake. "But I wanna be friends."
"I don't want friends," Jake said meanly. "Especially not stupid little sisters."
