Mira's POV
I couldn't believe this. The man I'd spent years and every ounce of my courage to escape was standing ten feet away, wearing a polite smile and a team jacket.
When his eyes met mine, they lit up with a sickening happiness that felt like a cage slamming shut around me. Dread, cold and absolute, seeped into my bones.
"It's a true pleasure to meet the team representing the Vexxon company," Dave said smoothly. "I look forward to working closely with you all."
Maxwell nodded, clapping Dave on the shoulder. "Dave here has already met Liam and Ben. He's an excellent addition. He'll be helping with any issues, which means," he added with a pointed look at us, "I won't have to manage this chaotic team alone anymore. I'll be handling other logistics. You all get acquainted."
Dave turned his full attention to us, that predatory gleam still in his gaze. "The honor is mine. I'd love to know your names."
"Eleanor,"
"Roxy," she replied, her usual bluntness tempered by curiosity.
