"Everyone, get ready for the defensive line!" Lyra's voice, amplified through the neuro-link, cut through the air. "Special variants in masses have been detected heading straight here. Their armies are massive in numbers!"
The war had begun. A massive force drew closer to the civilization, rumbles shaking the ground. From the sky, special variants with wings, and giant variants commanded by a special giant variant, swarmed the forest, destroying everything in their path.
As the castle alarm rang, panic set in among the residents. The kings, in a rare display of foresight, moved all residents towards the second wall, leaving the outer walls exposed. The city's forces stationed themselves on the second wall, ready to defend.
Adam, Lyra, Azrael, Vlad, and Johan stood at the forefront of the defense. "Lyra, stand on defense to protect the evolved humans; attack when necessary. Johan, infiltrate and break their formation from the back line. Azrael and Vlad, go let loose and destroy as many special variants as possible so their command structure breaks apart. I will be here on this field. Everyone stay in your group behind Lyra and send out your attacks, rotating to conserve your mana. If they get closer, fight to your death to protect this kingdom!" Adam commanded.
Johan disappeared, moving towards the special variants. A scorching beam surged from the forest towards them. Lyra, with a swift motion, conjured her spears, creating a barrier of divine light that absorbed the beam, rendering it useless. Azrael, with his new ability, teleported into the sky. Blood erupted from his body, piercing anything within his radius as he sliced with his scythe, absorbing essence and making his weapon stronger. Vlad sent out his blood wolves, then disappeared into the forest. The wolves were destroyed by coordinated attacks from the evolved variants, but Vlad got closer before unleashing a wave of blood towards them. Adam shot out a hydra, but this time, he connected the hydra to his projectile system like a long snake. The hydra unleashed multiple elemental attacks, tearing through hordes.
The attacks came quickly as masses of variants emerged from the forest, evading the hydra's onslaught. The evolved humans unleashed barrages of fire and light slashes towards them. Spears rained down from the sky as Lyra's attacks were swift and calculated. Special variants appeared near Adam via a portal, but Lyra's spear shield protected Adam from their initial assault.
They cut the Hydra's connection and continued to attack Adam, who swiftly sent out a lightning dragon, bursting the ground and electrocuting the variants. Some shielded and evaded, continuing their barrage on Adam. Lyra provided cover fire as beams of light from hundreds of spears shot towards their location. Adam coded the ground into quicksand, causing vines to surge out and grab the special variants.
Some, with quick reflexes, cut off the vines, while others caused an explosion.
As cracks appeared on Lyra's barrier, a special variant drilled its attack, breaking it apart. The attack rushed towards Adam's neck. Adam shot out a leviathan made of fire and ice, engulfing the special variants as the leviathan exploded into flames, burning them.
Johan began crushing the special variants hiding behind the lines, disrupting their chain of command. Johan continued crushing everything in sight as giants, now headless after Azrael's scythe, dropped into the forest. Johan pierced through their bodies with his invisible hands and climbed on top of its body before teleporting to the other special variants.
Vlad engulfed and destroyed variants, slicing through them in waves of blood throughout the forest. A giant wolf's head appeared beside a massive variant, biting it whole. Azrael, Johan, and Vlad encircled them from behind. Adam and Lyra, with the other evolved humans, continued sending their attacks, clearing out the hordes at the front.
In a desperate attempt, the special variants pushed forward, commanding a direct assault into the civilization. The hordes surged quickly, passing by Adam, though many were destroyed by his attacks. Lyra rained down spears, covering the evolved humans and the civilization with three layers of barriers. The hordes rammed towards the barriers, which held, Lyra maintaining her control over their strength.
The evolved humans continued their long-range attacks, cutting down the hordes to lessen the burden on the barriers. As the first barrier crumbled, and the hordes pushed towards the second, Adam shot out fire tornadoes, pulling the hordes in and burning them.
The numbers dwindled rapidly as Azrael finished off the sky armies and rushed towards the remaining hordes. Vlad had taken down the giant special variants and continued to kill more, Johan destroying everything in his path. Adam shot something into the sky: molten lava with a sentient devil's face rained down. The lava targeted hordes of them as it moved and spread throughout the field, killing everything it touched.
As the remaining special variants realized their loss, they opened a portal and rushed inside to escape. Adam unleashed a tsunami of water infused with electricity, stunning everything that moved on the ground. Many managed to escape, but those who were stunned became unconscious. The evolved humans emerged from behind the barriers, finishing off the unconscious variants while Lyra cleared everything else on the field.
They had won the war. No one was hurt, making it the most successful battle ever seen. The evolved humans rejoiced, celebrating their first victory. Adam, however, felt as if it wasn't over, a lingering suspicion that the battle had been too easy.
