Chapter 274 - The Black Garden

At dawn, as the sunlight hit Liebe's back at 6 AM, Liebe was done with training.

Álfrinn said, "It would appear you haven't been forsaken yet. But the training only helped your body—you are still stuck unless you can free your mind. This is the end of your journey."

Liebe said, "I understand."

Meanwhile, in Black Rose HQ, Alysa said, "Licht… Licht, you awake?"

Licht said, "Please let me sleep."

Alysa said, "I'm just worried about Liebe. When do you think he will come back?"

Licht said, "Stop worrying. He said he will meet us at Mímisbrunnr—the Black Rose holy ground, the Black Garden."

Alysa said, "I know he will. It's just… I'm worried."

Licht said, "Don't worry—it's Liebe we're talking about."

Alysa said, "You're right. And do you want breakfast?"

Licht said, "Sure, give me like a few minutes."

Alysa said, "It's already 6 AM. You're late already—everyone is ready. Gelda is making the portal."

Licht said, "What?"

Alysa said, "Yeahhhh."

Licht said, "Damn it," as he rushed up and got ready in a hurry.

Licht said, "Why didn't you wake me earlier?"

Alysa said, "I've been trying since 2 AM."

Licht said, "And that's the problem—I went to bed at 1:45 AM. The after-party last night really was a bit much."

Alysa said, "Yeah, and well…"

Licht said, "Did you get Gaia and everyone ready?"

Alysa said, "Yeah, only you are left. And the portal is ready, and the ship will leave in an hour."

As they went out, Gelda said, "Good morning. Time to head out."

Licht said, "Good morning," as he went through the portal without having breakfast, and then reached the port on the other side.

Lilith said, "Well, we are here. And your ship is ready. We move out in an hour. And remember—Mímisbrunnr Island is in international waters."

Everyone said, "Understood."

Soon, the ship also left the docks. After getting onto the ship, Licht fell asleep, and for the next 3 hours, he slept on the deck under the sun. By the time they reached Mímisbrunnr Island, Liebe was waiting.

Alysa said, "Liebe, you made it before us!"

Liebe said, "Well, yeah. But what happened to Licht?"

Alysa said, "Well, he fell asleep on the deck, and now he has a sunburn."

Licht said, "It hurts."

Liebe said, "Then sleep inside, not under the sun."

Lilith said, "Acting Captain, it's time."

Liebe said, "I understand, ma'am."

Gelda said, "Thank you, Lord, for coming."

Liebe said, "Of course."

While everyone was on the island, Lilith said, "Everyone, salute!" as they saluted the island.

Lilith said, "To all the knights who came before us…"

And Lilith said, "Now, everyone, feel free to roam the island, but set up camp by 5 PM."

Everyone said, "Understood, ma'am."

As Lilith, Gelda, and Liebe went into the forest, and then near the central mountain, they went into a cave. As they went deeper, the cave was composed of a black stone—it was smooth and had carpets.

Lilith said, "It's time you see this, Liebe. This is Black Rose's sacred grounds, also known as the Black Garden."

As they reached the end, there was a wall filled with weapons and an altar before that. And on the altar was a pedestal.

Lilith said, "These weapons—they belonged to every Einherjar that came before us for the past 25 generations. This room is only for those who are beloved by Aldaföðr."

And in the pedestal was a mask of Ifrit.

Liebe said, "What is this? The Mask of Ifrit?"

Lilith said, "This mask is the greatest Black Rose treasure that's been protected in this chamber for the past 950 years. And the reason why every Captain in Black Rose bears the title 'Aldaföðr'—the Mask of Ifrit, mythical model: Aldaföðr."

Liebe said, "No way…"

Lilith said, "Yet no matter who wears the mask, none can use its power except those deemed worthy by the mask. And until 10 years ago, I was able to use it, but afterward, it deemed me unworthy."

Liebe said, "I understand."

As Lilith moved to the wall, Lilith said, "Each of these weapons bears the history of an Einherjar who fought and died in battle. Each Battleaxe , sword and spear carry their spirit ."

Liebe said, "I understand," as he placed Abel's daggers into the wall.

Liebe said, "He may not have been a Black Rose knight, but he was a man who died in battle protecting another. I doubt there is anyone else who deserves to be an Einherjar more than him."

Lilith said, "He is indeed worthy. But before him, there was another. He wasn't a warrior—rather, a common thief. He stole and fought to help the poor. The ones who fight and die in battle are the Einherjar, but he was a man who fought on behalf of those who couldn't even do that. That's why his staff is here as well. The man was formerly known as Tenebris Vale. Yet because of his actions, a female knight fell for him, and after their marriage, he was named Tenebris Faust—my late and former husband."

Liebe placed his hand on Tenebris's staff and said, "Thanks, Dad, for everything."

Lilith said, "I'm sure he is watching over you, Liebe. But I'm not worthy of such love. That's why he is here. Now, this chamber houses the spirit of every Einherjar who fought and lost their lives in battle. I don't know how he died, but I'm sure he died fighting for those who needed him the most."
