Chapter 185 - Faith Beyond the Flames

As Liebe was being crushed, he couldn't breathe easily. He was losing consciousness from lack of air. Meanwhile in the library, Mey was crying; her tears fell onto the communicator. Subconsciously, her wings moved to wipe them away. Mey thought, I suppose only my broken wings are left to comfort me.

Meanwhile, Liebe thought, I have no choice left. He stood up.

Avaran snarled, "How are you standing?" and punched Liebe in the face. Liebe was knocked away. What is happening here? What can his attribute possibly be? Liebe thought — that punch alone was stronger than one of his Dark Impact fists. What the hell do I do? More wood was placed on the seal. Avaran was now at 71% power.

Liebe said, "No choice left — my trump card now. Dark magic: Bloodlust." He let his killer instincts take over and struck, ripping off Avaran's hind arm with the blade. As Avaran tried to swing again, Liebe removed the other arm as well.

Avaran rasped, "What the hell is he?" As Liebe went for the heart and pierced, Avaran shifted his heart away. "Under any normal opponent you would have won by now," Avaran said. Pressure crushed in — intense, overwhelming — but Liebe managed to resist the pressure enough to sever Avaran's head. It regenerated.

Avaran grabbed Liebe with one hand and condensed a sphere of magic, preparing to strike. Liebe said, "Do your worst." Bleeding from the mouth, Avaran warned, "Be careful what you wish for, Faust." The orb carried more than fifty g's of pressure — like being smashed by a series of wrecking balls. The strike sent Liebe flying; all of his ribs were broken.

Kneeling in the library, Liebe gasped. Outside, Mey cried in a pool of her own tears — so weak she couldn't do anything to save the person who had rescued her from the darkness. As her tears combusted into phoenix flames, she felt her wings healing and the communicator begin to work. What truly is the power of phoenix flame?

Suddenly, on the ship's bridge, Licht heard buzzing again. "Hello? Liebe? What happened? What the hell is wrong? Tell me — dammit, I'm coming to save you. Liebe — are you there? Liebe — dude." Licht began to lose hope that Liebe was alive.

Mey realized now was her chance to help. If she could tell Licht to turn off the Z-jammers, Liebe could win the fight. Licht kept screaming, "What's wrong, Liebe?" Mey had only one chance: watch or take a leap of fate and actually help. She screamed into the communicator, "Please stop the Z-jammers!"

Licht shouted, "What? Who is this?" — then the voice cut out. Licht screamed, "Captain, turn off the Z-jammers!" Warner said, "What happened?" Licht said, "I don't know, but there was a voice on my communicator and it screamed to shut down the Z-jammers." Warner asked, "What was it?" Licht replied, "From what I heard, I'm guessing it was a girl." Warner said, "A girl? Is that possible? Captain, shut down the Z-jammers!"

The captain replied, "Sorry, I can't. We are under strict orders not to stop them." Licht then rushed down to the ship's room. "Gelda, combine your magic with me!" he said.

"What happened?" Gelda asked.

"There was another sound in my communicator. It said to shut down the Z-jammers," Licht explained.

"Alysa — was it Liebe?" Licht asked.

"No," Licht said, "from what I heard it was a girl."

Gelda said, "Whatever it was, let's do this — now.""Spacial magic: Astral Gate!" Gelda shouted."Light magic: Burst Spear!" Licht called.

They combined Spacial × Light — Destiny Strike. The burst hit the Z-jammers on all eight ships, causing them to shut down.

In an instant, Vanessa appeared. Before they knew what was happening, everyone found themselves tied up in razor-sharp strings. Vanessa said, "What are you doing?"

"There was a voice on my communicator — it said to stop the Z-jammers," Licht said.

Vanessa sneered, "And you believed it?" The strings sliced; the crew began to bleed. Vanessa said, "Why? Because you believe Mey and Liebe might be alive? Fine. Let's see."She ordered, "You are to remain here, tied up, until we receive proof you aren't planning something."

Back in the crater, Liebe stood up. "Hey, bitch face — I'm nowhere near done yet," he snarled, using his darkness to heal himself. He continued to clash with Avaran, and now he had magic again. Outside the cave, Mey watched.

Liebe called, "Fifteen percent now — Spear of Mercury!" Avaran had Liebe pinned to the ground. He used air magic, condensing air around Liebe's ankles and wrists, stopping him from moving. "Done struggling yet, Faust?" Avaran taunted as Liebe floated immobile before him.

Avaran took one of Liebe's swords and pierced Liebe in the shoulder. He sneered, "I will make you feel far more pain than this until the seal is broken, and then I will make you watch what I do to your precious world." Being impaled by the holy blade caused Liebe an agony worse than any before.

Liebe gritted his teeth. Why do every villain always take the slow route and just lose instead of finishing the fight then and there? he thought. He spat, "Bitch face, I can't even begin to tell you how wrong you are. I will kill you. I will rip you to shreds."

Avaran closed in until he was within breathing distance. "Wish granted, Faust," he said, and took the other sword to finish Liebe off.

Liebe spat in Avaran's face — burning his skin. Avaran screamed from the pain. Liebe said, "Nothing much — just a few concentrated droplets of the holy Saint Louis." Avaran howled, "How did you keep that in your mouth without being burned to ashes yourself?" Liebe replied, "Simple. I used mercury to make a small pocket in my mouth to keep it — just for a moment like this."

As Avaran was distracted, Liebe pulled the sword out from his shoulder. Then he unleashed: Dark × Metal magic — Demonics. He transformed into his devil form.
