Chapter 36 - The Light That Holds the North: Jewel Vaude

Despite being the captain of Black Rose, Lilith couldn't stop the war. The combined forces of Endless Justice and Sacred Freedom were too powerful to defeat. Lilith had no choice but to continue with her plan.

"Sujibur, get ready," she said. "Only one month remains until we execute the final phase."

Sujibur replied, "Understood, ma'am."

Lilith asked, "What about Jewel on the northern front?"

Sujibur responded, "So far, his unit is holding steady. They've managed to survive for the last four months without giving an inch."

Northern Border — Black Rose Outpost

At the frontline, David said, "Vice-Captain, we've been stationed here for four months. When will this end?"

Jewel replied calmly, "That's not our place to ask."

Suddenly, Durjo pointed. "Sir! Look—an enemy unit. Fifteen men approaching fast!"

Jewel narrowed his eyes. "I'll handle them."

He stepped forward and raised his hand.

"Summon: Holy Relic — Lamp of Avior.

Light Magic: Rain of Light!"

He fired a beam of light into the floating relic. The lamp absorbed it, glowed intensely, and then scattered it—turning it into a shower of divine light that rained down like arrows from the heavens.

In seconds, Jewel vanished from sight. Before the enemy commander could react, a voice whispered behind him:

"How can someone have this much magic power? This guy alone has taken down over 75 of our soldiers…"

Suddenly, Jewel reappeared right in front of them.

He smirked. "It's simple. I don't have that much magic power."

Then, he pointed to the sky.

"End this."

A colossal beam of light—a hundred times stronger than the last—descended, obliterating the enemy unit in a single, blinding flash.

When the dust settled, Jewel calmly walked back.

David saluted. "Vice-Captain, that makes 90 enemies down. You must be running low on magic. You should rest."

Jewel replied, "I still have enough to keep going."

David nodded. "Yes, sir."

"David, focus your sniping," Jewel instructed. "You're the only sniper left in the unit. We need your eyes. Stay alert 24/7. One month from now… this will all end."

David said firmly, "Yes, sir!"

Faust Mansion — Afternoon

Back home, Gelda called out, "Young Lord Liebe, your lunch is ready."

Liebe walked in. "You don't need to be so formal, but sure. So, what's for lunch?"

Licht chimed in, "I'm starving!"

Gelda smiled. "Today's lunch is slow-grilled chicken and jasmine rice."

Liebe grinned. "Thanks, looks delicious!"

Licht asked, "When will Dad be back?"

Gelda responded, "The Vice-Captain, Jewel, is stationed at the northern border. He should return in about a month."

Northern Border — That Night

As the cold winds howled across the front, Jewel sat in silence.

"I don't have high magic power," he thought. "I don't even have multiple elements like Captain Lilith. The only gift I was born with is the speed of my light magic."

He looked out across the hills, eyes fierce.

"That's why I work harder than anyone else. Now that Captain Domr is gone… I, as the Vice-Captain of Black Rose, will destroy anyone who threatens Captain Lilith Faust. I will be her sword."
