Chapter 5584: Repaying the Favor (Part 2)
"Come back, come back!" Venerable Mulberry was absolutely livid.
He tried a conciliatory tone with the two children. "How about this, old man will give you another treasure. You two take the item, and you must release me, alright?"
Mo Baobao remained expressionless.
The old man's hands trembled as he pulled a piece of Purple Flowing Gold from his inner realm, stammering, "This... this is a piece of Saint-level material that this old man accidentally acquired while mining in the Holy Domain."
The little fellow's eyes brightened slightly.
Venerable Mulberry quickly breathed a sigh of relief. These days, are children really so difficult to deceive? It took taking out such a prized possession to make the child's eyes light up. It seemed there was hope for this matter, and he just needed to push a little harder.
"Child, this old man will gift you this piece of Purple Flowing Gold." The old man's face showed obvious heartache; he clearly knew that Purple Flowing Gold was a valuable item. "You must release this old man, understand?"
Mo Baobao nodded his little head, looking utterly obedient.
The old man's heart swelled with joy. He raised his hand and tossed the Purple Flowing Gold over. Mo Baobao reached out and caught it, turning it over and over in his hands, his eyes sparkling. He glanced at Master Guangguang.
Seeing the child's joyful expression, the old man secretly breathed another sigh of relief. He tried to force a benevolent smile, coaxingly saying, "Child, this old man didn't lie to you, did he? The item truly is a good one. Don't worry, if you release me alone, this old man will leave the Eastern Domain and never return to bother you again."
Mo Baobao maintained his little poker face and nodded repeatedly, looking very compliant.
The old man's heart stirred with excitement, and he looked at the child expectantly.
He watched as Mo Baobao turned his small head, pulled Master Guangguang, and started walking off on his short legs.
Venerable Mulberry's face was a blank canvas of bewilderment. Then he urgently called out, "Child, hey, child, child!!"
Are these two cursed children really like this? They took the item and just left, not even looking back, completely deaf to his calls.
Even now, Venerable Mulberry doubted himself: Could he really have been tricked by two five or six-year-old babies?
"Hmph," a light chuckle came from the side.
Venerable Mulberry angrily turned his head, only to see that Zhao Gouzi and the other two had slowly woken up. He figured they must have heard and seen everything that just transpired between him and the children.
The one-armed Ma Wei angrily shouted, "Mulberry, you're really disloyal! When disaster strikes, you fly off on your own. You wanted to abandon us and sneak away by yourself?"
They had heard Venerable Mulberry's conversation with the children very clearly, knowing that Mulberry intended to abandon all of them and escape alone.
Venerable Mulberry immediately scowled. "What could I do? Zhao Gouzi said to kidnap two children and assured us it would succeed. And what happened?"
"After all that effort, we're the ones who got tied up? That's a huge joke!"
"Stop talking nonsense," Ma Wei roared, his neck thick. "It was you just now, betraying your trust, abandoning your brothers and running off first. Don't go spouting all this irrelevant rubbish."
"This whole thing was caused by Zhao Gouzi! It has nothing to do with us," Venerable Mulberry retorted angrily.
Zhao Gouzi smiled sinisterly, "Oh? Is that so? When I said we should kidnap two children and laid out the detailed plan, didn't you also applaud and say the plan was sure to succeed?"
