Navigating through the ventilation system, Anakin Skywalker tracked where the intruders were headed, with Aayla Secura close behind. He'd found their entry point and was following their trail from there. Determining the infiltrators' destination was challenging, but both Jedi trusted that the Force would guide them in the right direction.
Meanwhile, Cad Bane and Todo were attempting to breach the Holocron Vault, with most of the security systems already disabled by Cato's infiltration.
They just had to bypass the final laser defense grid.
Ahsoka was enjoying her lunch break with Spider-Man when her wrist comlink suddenly activated.
"What is it?" Ahsoka asked.
"Alert, you must be," Yoda's voice warned urgently. "Sense deception, I do. Disguised as a Jedi, the intruder is. Find Madam Jocasta, you must."
As the transmission ended, Ahsoka and Spider-Man quickly swung back to the Archives to locate Jocasta.
It didn't take long to return with Spider-Man's web-slinging assistance, and when they reached Jocasta's position, they heard strange sounds coming from the supposed librarian.
"Bane, both Jedi have turned around and are moving toward your position."
The two teens exchanged alarmed glances, immediately recognizing something was wrong.
Ahsoka quickly approached the disguised figure. "Who are you, and what have you done with Madam Jocasta?"
The woman quickly stood and the shapeshifter ignited a stolen lightsaber, swinging the weapon at Ahsoka, who immediately activated her own blade to deflect the attack. With Cato's strike blocked, she quickly redirected her assault toward the teenager beside Ahsoka.
"Whoa!" Spider-Man leaped backward as the lightsaber blade swept toward him.
This gave Spider-Man an opening to counterattack, firing webbing and yanking the lightsaber from the shapeshifter's grip.
With Ahsoka's Force-enhanced push, Spider-Man quickly ensnared the infiltrator in his webbing.
"You can mimic Jocasta's appearance, but you don't have her skills," Ahsoka observed.
"Now then, miss, care to explain what's happening here?" Spider-Man asked the captured bounty hunter.
After some intense questioning, they extracted the information they needed.
"We need to report this immediately."
Ahsoka nodded and opened a channel to Master Yoda, who quickly relayed the message to Anakin and Aayla. "Master, Peter and I have captured an intruder disguised as Madam Jocasta. She says they're targeting the Holocron Vault."
"Holocron Vault?" Aayla repeated. She was already approaching the area, wondering aloud, "Those can't be accessed without Jedi clearance. What could they want?"
Anakin considered this for a moment. "They must be trying to reach the Communications Center through the vault."
"Possibly."
Cad Bane was now attempting to breach the security door into the vault, but the process was taking longer than anticipated.
Unfortunately for the Duros bounty hunter, he was no longer receiving communications from his disguised partner. Either their signals were being jammed or she had been captured.
"Todo, is the breach ready?"
"Yes, but—"
"Head to the Communications Center."
"What?"
"You heard me."
"But that place is crawling with Jedi, Bane. Why would you send me there?"
"Now!" Bane snapped impatiently.
"Okay, okay." Todo opened the metal access panel he'd created and headed toward his new destination.
Bane grinned coldly, placed an explosive device on the holocron vault's security door, and retreated to a safe distance.
Moving closer to the source of the disturbance, Anakin and Aayla soon felt a tremendous rumbling from the ventilation system—like an explosion. Fearing the worst, they quickened their pace. Reaching the source, they saw a large breach not far from where they'd positioned themselves.
"Come on, Skywalker. Communications Center," Aayla said, and Anakin followed silently.
Neither of them noticed the real infiltrator's presence nearby.
Bane watched as both Jedi dropped through the hole his droid had created. He was pleased to see that neither had spotted the device on the vault door.
Soon after, Bane entered the vault and saw countless glowing blue holocrons arranged throughout the secured chamber.
He chuckled to himself before grabbing a specific holocron and vanishing into the shadows.
Todo arrived at the Temple Communications Center and found himself face-to-face with multiple Jedi Masters, all staring directly at him.
"Hello there," he said awkwardly. "I was just, uh, testing the access hatch." He picked up a random component and examined it pretentiously before setting it back down. "Everything's working perfectly."
Suddenly, a sharp beeping sound emanated from behind him.
"Bomb!" Master Windu shouted.
"A bomb? What—"
Todo didn't have time to ask more questions as the explosive detonated, sending him careening into the ventilation shaft where Aayla and Anakin were positioned.
"Bomb!" Anakin yelled, and he and Aayla ran for cover.
Todo screamed helplessly before being destroyed in the explosion.
The Jedi Council convened in the Archives, where Spider-Man and Ahsoka waited with their captive, Cato.
Along the way, they noticed Madam Jocasta groggily making her way to one of the study tables.
"Hey, are you alright?" Spider-Man asked with concern.
"I'll be fine," the elderly woman said. "Just need some time to recover."
"Ahsoka," Yoda's ancient voice drew their attention.
He had arrived with another Jedi Master.
"Are you well, Madam Jocasta?" Kit Fisto asked.
"I'm recovering."
Above them all, Yoda raised his hand, and the doors to the Holocron Vault opened.
Walking inside, Yoda looked around with obvious apprehension.
"It seems our communications were not the target of these invaders," Yoda said, facing an empty holocron storage unit in the vault.
"They stole a holocron?" Aayla said incredulously. "What purpose could they have for stealing a holocron?"
Knowing her fate was sealed, Cato spoke up and said a name: "Bolla Ropal."
"What did you say?" Windu asked sharply.
"Bolla Ropal," she repeated. "That's Bane's next target."
"Bolla Ropal," Plo Koon murmured with growing concern.
"Who is Ropal?" Anakin asked.
"He is the keeper of the Kyber memory crystal, which contains extremely sensitive information."
"What's stored on the crystal?" Ahsoka asked.
"A complete list of every known Force-sensitive child in the galaxy," Windu said gravely. "The future of the Jedi Order."
"We must warn Bolla Ropal immediately," Aayla said.
"Masters!"
The Jedi turned to see a Padawan running toward them with a panicked expression.
"Jax, what's wrong?" Plo asked.
"Masters, while I was performing maintenance duties in the detention levels, I discovered an empty cell!" Jax said in horror. "The one that held Prosset Dibs!"
Mace's eyes narrowed. "There would be no point in freeing Prosset Dibs. He knows nothing about holocrons."
"Much to do, we still have," Yoda interrupted. "Skywalker, go you must. Help Master Bolla Ropal, you will."
"Ahsoka and I will leave immediately," Anakin said.
"I'm coming too," Spider-Man said firmly, surprising the assembled Jedi.
"Peter..." Ahsoka said uncertainly.
"You don't need to do this, kid," Anakin said. "This is Jedi business."
"I know, but... I'm here now, and I can do more to help." Spider-Man said determinedly. "You've been sheltering me and the other Avengers without asking much in return, so let this be my way of contributing."
"Go with them, if you wish," Yoda said, studying the young hero intently. "Much help, Skywalker will need. Young Parker, assist with this mission, he can."
Anakin looked at Spider-Man for a moment and simply nodded. The three of them quickly departed the Archives.
An uneasy feeling lingered in the air of the Archives, and no one noticed the Weequay Jedi Master escorting a cloaked figure outside the Jedi Temple. Walking down the temple steps, the disguised infiltrator observed a ship departing from the Temple vicinity.
"It appears both of our missions were successful," the false Jedi thought as he shifted his gaze from Bane's departing ship to his companion beside him. "He obtained the holocron, and I retrieved my asset. Everything proceeded exactly as planned."
