A few months later…
Music pulsed throughout the club. Lux was in full swing. But that was of no matter to one Ella Lopez, making her way through the club to get to Lucifer's personal elevator that would lead to his penthouse. Their little eclectic group of humans, angels, and a demon had gone through quite the ordeal recently. After a failed Game Night turned kidnapping, a Devil reveal, and nearly getting killed by a demon from Hell, things were starting to get back to their group's (new) normal.
Ella's face lit up with a huge smile as she thought of the relationship that had blossomed from all the chaos. That's right. Detective Chloe Decker and Lucifer Morningstar had officially become a couple and her shipper heart had been soaring ever since. Her Deckerstar heart was full. They were truly meant to be. Ella wasn't entirely certain that soulmates truly existed, but when the Devil was real (and was one of her best friends; honestly, more like a big brother at this point), it didn't seem too outside the realm of possibilities.
The elevator doors slid open and Ella stepped inside. As she turned around, the doors began to close, but were stopped by an intercepting hand.
"You really weren't going to hold the doors open for me, Ella?" Dan asked as he stepped inside.
"Sorry," Ella apologized, "I was lost in my thoughts."
The doors began to close again, only to be stopped once again by a karambit.
"Oops, sorry, Maze," Ella apologized again, "I didn't realize you were coming tonight."
"There's free booze," Maze replied with a shrug of her shoulder, "Why wouldn't I come?"
Yet again, the elevator doors were almost shut again when they heard Linda's voice ring out, "Hold the elevator!"
Ella quickly reached out to stop the doors from shutting once again only to see Linda lightly jogging up to the elevator with Amenadiel in tow.
"Linda, you shouldn't be running like that in your condition," Amenadiel chastised as they both entered the elevator.
"Amenadiel, I'm pregnant, not an invalid," Linda countered.
"Anybody else coming or can we finally head up?" Ella jerked her thumb back out to the club.
Everyone shook their heads. It seemed they all had arrived at the same time for another little "Celestial Insider's Club" meeting.
"I just hope we won't be interrupting anything when we get up there," Maze leant against the back of the elevator with her arms crossed, "Those two have become nauseously sweet after getting together."
"We won't be interrupting anything, Maze," Dan assured her, "Trix is up there with them."
"And?" Maze didn't see his point.
Dan just rolled his eyes. They all rode the elevator up to Lucifer's penthouse. The doors dinged open and everyone stepped out.
"Ugh, told you we'd interrupt something," Maze remarked as she stepped off the elevator.
"You're not interrupting anything," Chloe said from her position on the couch. She was lying on Lucifer's chest. They were mid-cuddle. Lucifer's arm was wrapped around her and she was idly playing with one of Lucifer's fingers hanging over her shoulder. In Lucifer's other hand was his signature scotch.
"Yes, Maze, you've caught me in much more compromising positions over the years," Lucifer commented.
"I thought you two would be less annoying after you boned," Maze uncorked one of Lucifer's decanters and helped herself to a drink.
Lucifer ignored Maze's comment and unwrapped his arm from around Chloe, "I hadn't realized you all would be arriving at the same time."
He got up and joined Maze at his bar to prepare everyone a drink, ever the gracious host.
"Neither did we," Ella said as she took a seat next to Chloe on the opposite side of where Lucifer had sat. Dan, Amenadiel, and Linda took a seat on the adjacent couch and chair respectively.
Dan leaned over the adjoining chair to find Trixie fast asleep. He softly brushed his daughter's bangs out of her face.
"When did she fall asleep?" Dan whispered.
"Not long," Chloe answered at equal volume, "She wanted to stay up 'til you guys all got here and be part of all the "grown up stuff," but…"
"The Urchin was out just after two rounds of Go Fish," Lucifer added.
"Right," Dan smiled, "I'll take her to the guest room."
"Thanks, Dan," Chloe said as Dan smoothly lifted his daughter's sleeping form into his arms without waking her to take her into one of Lucifer's guest rooms where she more than likely would be spending the night.
"So, how goes Hell?" Maze plopped down next to Chloe, taking Lucifer's seat.
"You'd have to ask Amenadiel," Lucifer joined the group with a tray of drinks he set down on the table in front of everyone, "He was the last one down there."
"Hell is doing just fine actually," Amenadiel accepted his drink, "In fact, I think it's somehow begun to run on its own. The demons are all in line, no uprisings in sight…"
"What about Dromos?" Chloe asked.
"As far as I know, he's still on pins and needles thinking that Lucifer is going to smite him for possessing humans," Amenadiel replied.
"You aren't going to, are you?" Chloe turned to her Devil boyfriend.
"Better to have him think so and remain on actual pins and needles," Lucifer replied.
"So, Hell has become automated?" Linda asked as she took a glass of iced tea Lucifer handed her.
Amenadiel just shrugged.
"That's a mystery for another day," Lucifer said. He stepped back over to his seat, only to see Maze had taken his spot. He raised an eyebrow at her. With a huff, Maze scooted over. Just as Lucifer reclaimed his seat, Maze got up.
"On second thought, I think I'd rather try my luck downstairs," Maze said, "I think I might've spotted two of the Brittanys."
"Have a good night, Maze!" Linda called out. Maze waved behind her without looking back.
"Later, Dan," Maze said as she passed him re-joining the group.
"Where's Maze going?" Dan picked up his own drink from the tray before taking a seat next to Ella.
"Trying her luck downstairs with the Brittanys," Linda replied and took a sip of her iced tea, "I think we might've been a bit too boring for her."
"We are not boring, Doctor," Lucifer was offended.
"Anyway, let's get back on track," Ella jumped in before Lucifer could go on a tirade of how the Devil was not boring and he never would be, "Where did we leave off from our last club meeting?"
"I still don't understand why you insist on referring to these get-togethers as club meetings," Lucifer shook his head.
"What else would you call a hangout where you catch us up on all the Celestial goings-on that we didn't know about?" Ella returned.
"I think we were up to my poisoning actually," Chloe jumped in before an argument would ensue.
"I'm guessing the way you got the formula from Professor Carlisle was by going down to Hell and asking him?" Dan ventured.
"Precisely," Lucifer tipped his drink toward Dan.
"He says it like it was no big deal," Amenadiel shook his head at his brother's modesty.
"The Devil going down to Hell isn't exactly groundbreaking," Ella shrugged, "I know he doesn't want to go back down there, but saving Chloe's life seems like a pretty good reason."
"Worth every second," Lucifer squeezed Chloe's knee. They were back to their cuddled-up positions. Chloe had her feet tucked up under her and her knees lying on Lucifer's thigh.
"Even at the expense of his own," Amenadiel agreed, "Definitely a good reason."
Chloe furrowed her brows at that, "What do you mean "at the expense of his own"?"
"You didn't tell her?" Amenadiel turned to Lucifer.
"Tell me what?" Chloe sat up fully and turned to face a guilty-looking Devil, "What didn't you tell me, Lucifer?"
"I didn't have my wings then," Lucifer started. He sent a quick glare his brother's way who apologetically and guiltily took another sip of his drink.
"So, it wasn't as easy to get to Hell and interrogate Carlisle without your wings?" Chloe wanted to understand.
Lucifer nodded, unsure how to phrase his next words.
Thankfully, he was saved by the good doctor, "Unfortunately, to my understanding, there was only one alternative route to Hell to save you, Chloe."
"You… You died?" Chloe figured it out.
"You're worth every life, Darling," Lucifer gave her a soft, sad smile.
"Lucifer, "thank you" doesn't even seem like enough," Chloe was at a loss for words. They may not have exchanged those three little words between them quite yet, but given all of their interactions over the years, there was no doubt in her mind that they truly loved each other.
"But we will be unpacking the fact that you died to save me later," Chloe said before giving him a quick peck on the lips. Lucifer let out a hum that sounded like a mixture of displeasure over the prospect of that particular discussion and content from Chloe's kiss.
"Just when I thought you two couldn't have a more incredible love story," Ella exuded pure heart eyes at the Devil and the Detective that continued to cuddle.
"Honestly, I've found all this Celestial stuff a little humbling," Dan commented.
"How do you mean?" Amenadiel asked.
"When you get down to it, you guys are just like the rest of us," Dan said, "Granted, the stakes are a lot higher, but… it's humbling to know that celestial beings have the same problems as us humans."
"Well said, Dan," Linda agreed.
"Yeah, sometimes it really hits me that one of my best friends ruled over the damned for eons," Ella said, "I'm just glad you don't have to go back, buddy."
"You and me both, Miss Lopez," Lucifer smiled, "As we all seem to be in a thanking mood…"
He turned to his older brother, "Thank you for helping me manage Hell, Amenadiel. You've been the one going down there and bringing back a progress report so I can stay up here with Chloe. It's well appreciated."
"Don't mention it, Luci," Amenadiel waved off the praise, "I figure it's one way to make up for all the millennia I dragged you back down there. Plus, I also have my own reasons for wanting to keep the Earth safe."
He shared a smile with Linda, joining Linda's hands cupping her growing abdomen.
"Sometimes, I have to admit, I'll have random realizations about you being the actual Devil," Dan continued as he finished his drink.
"Like what?" Ella wondered.
"Like when we were investigating that surfer's death," Dan gave an example, "When I smacked you with those case files… out of the blue, it'll hit me that I actually smacked the Devil in his ass."
"Others have gone much further with me, Daniel, I assure you," Lucifer smirked. Chloe playfully smacked his chest.
"Okay! As much as I love watching the Douchifer bromance continue to blossom, let's hit pause on it," Ella raised her hands and got up, collecting everyone's glasses, "I think we need to refresh everybody's drinks."
"Good idea! I have to live vicariously through you guys until I have the baby," Linda got up to help Ella.
Everyone engaged in casual conversation as Ella and Linda prepared everyone's next round of drinks.
"You know, I'm actually really proud of all the progress Lucifer has made in the last few years," Linda said as she took one of the drinks Ella handed her to put on the serving tray.
"It's good to know that even the Devil can grow," Ella agreed, "He and Dan have even gotten closer after we found out the truth."
"That's good," Linda took another glass and set it on the tray.
"They even fell asleep on each other," Ella told her.
"No! Really?" Linda laughed.
"Yeah," Ella got out her phone, "It was right after we found out. We had to remove a bunch of bullets from Lucifer's wings…"
Linda stared blankly at Ella at that piece of news. Apparently she had to be brought up to speed on some things too.
Ella handed Linda her phone after she brought up the picture she took of Lucifer and Dan asleep on one another. Linda couldn't help but smile at the sight before her. Dan's head was resting on Lucifer's shoulder as a pillow with his mouth slightly agape. If she squinted, she could just about make out a tiny bit of drool at the corner of his mouth. Lucifer was slightly slumped with his arms folded and his chin tucked in toward his chest. His head was nearly resting on Dan's. They were too cute for words.
"What are you two giggling about over there?" Lucifer called out.
"Oh, I'm just admiring a picture of you and Dan," Linda smiled.
"What picture?" Dan furrowed his brow and exchanged a confused look with Lucifer.
"This one," Linda brought Ella's phone over to them to show them.
Linda held out Ella's phone and Chloe took it. Lucifer leaned in to look at the picture and Dan and Amenadiel came over to take a look too.
"Aww, you two are so adorable," Chloe cooed.
Lucifer looked up from Ella's phone to see said forensic scientist come back over to the lounge area with the tray of their next round of drinks with a smile adorned on her face. He briefly looked around and couldn't help a reluctant smile form on his own lips.
"This photograph doesn't go beyond this family," Lucifer stated. Dan emphatically nodded in concurrence. Chloe pecked a kiss on Lucifer's cheek in agreement.
Their little group was quite the ensemble… They were more than that…
They were family.
