Chapter 1 - Gunshot

I have been inside this empty chamber for three hours. Alone.

All I have here was a single table, an empty can of juice and a chair on where I was just sitted. Right infront of me, a two-way mirror was on the wall. Surely, they were just right behind it, keenly observing my behavior.

Cameras are all over of this box room. I've been yawning from time to time and yet they did not care on making this thing a lot more faster. Even a nap was not aloud.

All they said was to wait for the final observation they are making, definitely proving that my powers are really in fact gone.

They never intend to go this far, actually. It's just a proper procedure to make for documentation purposes but honestly, with or without my powers, they wouldn't care about it. I had been in my duty as one of the hero in this agency for almost four years and for my experience in that time, I could undoubtedly say that I've been a junkie one inside. Shameful but it's the truth.

I'm just an averaged hero type, with low telekinetic ability. I can't even lift a car with this power without breaking a lot of sweat, or fight a thug alone and win. Supporting hero was always my role in the agency. Always at the back, doing those little things, but mostly one of those need of rescuing. I've been frequently confined or forced for a day-off in several months because of my situation.

I'm weak. And I can't change that painful fact no matter how hard I tried to. Why did I became a hero then? It's simple. I want money to survive. No one can blame me to it if I still kept my job even though

I'm obviously not born for it.

The metallic door opened with a beep and a man on a suit entered, with both hands hidden inside his pockets. My eyes just followed him until he stops to my side. "Am I free to go now? Or did you get bored already?"

He sighed. "Let's just say. We have more important things to do other than doing this. But, are you really sure you can't use your power anymore?"

I stared at the empty can on the table, and pointed my palm toward it. I tried to use my power but as I expected, the can remains still. So I only sighed in defeat, "See? I can't do it anymore."

"Well. That should be enough to clear everything, I guess." He replied. Not sure if he sounded dismayed or happy by hearing it.

He offered his hand the moment I stood up. "We are sad to see you leave like this, Tobias."

I really hoped you're saying that from the bottom of your heart and not just for the sake of formality. But why would I even care? I mean, the issue here are not them, but my own weakness alone.

I accepted the handshake. With my sling bag on. I exited the building but saw a bunch of reporters and bystanders. Standing infront of the entrance like a pack of sardines.

A security guard then adviced me to go to the backdoor and I quickly knew why: They are introducing new heroes in the world. I kinda want to see it, or even wishing that I'm still one of them but, nothing I can do about it now.

I went home with my bicycle. I lived in the fifth floor of an apartment and as I was just about to reach the keyhole, Mrs. Acula appeared beside me, crossed arms. "Tobias. I finally saw you, what a coincidence."

Don't tell me she purposedly waited for me to come here. And where did she even hide to? I didn't catch a glimpse of her walking out from.

I smiled at her. Removing the rising tension as possible as I can. "Ah. Mrs. Acula, can I help you with something?"

She then laid out her palm, also wearing a smile but we both know that it's just a fake one. "You've been three months late for your rent fee. Maybe it's time for you to consider paying now."

Luckily. As a retired hero. The agency's still a generous enough to give me a parting payment. Just enough to pay for that three months rent fee. Life's totally not easy.

So I cut it in half and paid her the other half. "I can only pay the one and a half month for now. I'll find a way to pay the rest next time."

"Just make sure you'll pay it full next time. Or else you can find another apartment around. Do I make my self clear, Tobias?"

I nodded like a poppy, trying to please my owner. "Yes, I understand, Mrs. Acula."

"Okay!"

I locked the door as soon as I got inside it.

I let out a long sigh. Looks like I need to find another job soon. I'll never live next month if I don't.

My fingers reached for the switch and the room was lighted. But to my surprise, my eyes widened when all I saw was a chaotic room.

Broken floor and lamp. Clothes thrown everywhere. Basag sa sahig ang lampara. Broken window and a sign of boots that clearly was not mine.

A burglar?! A thief's inside my apartment! Looks like it's still here. I need to catch them as fast as I can.

I went to the kitchen and the chaotical scene was the same. Plates scattered on the floor and in pieces. Utensils and opened cabinets.

Then I peeked to my bedroom the last. And there; My eyes widened, body's completely frozen. When mine and the thief's eyes met.

He had red pair of eyes. And just like lightning, he went to me to attack. I panicked with his sudden movement. Totally forgot that I'm now just an ordinary man, tried to used my lost power to a violent thief. And in exchanged, gave me a bursting kick to my stomach.

I left a cracked on the wall when I bounced to it. What the heck! It hurts like hell I'm short of breathe in seconds.

But I still tried to stand up. "Who are you—" my words was cut off when unexpectedly, this burglar took out a handgun from his waist and fired a single shot to my heart.

That's too loud and painful. My ears rang like crazy as the air left me like my soul. My eyes turned lifeless as my body drops, face first on the floor.

Then everything went completely dark and silent.
