At Fortress Four, the bird monster had just flown away, vanishing into the clouds beyond that floodlights on the wall.
The residents of the base finally relaxed. Many exhaled like they had been unable to breathe for so many hours. They put away the guns, knives, spatulas, sticks and stones that they were holding.
"This apocalypse just got weird." Someone said.
"It has always been weird." His neighbor replied.
Nimo leaned back against the wall, legs trembling like twigs beneath her as of the ground itself had been frightened by what dropped by for a visit.
"You alright?" Siegfried asked her.
Nimo sunk to the ground completely and she sat down. "No Siegfried, I am not okay." She replied loudly. "I don't think that any of us is okay."
"If that is what we are fighting, I am afraid we are going to lose." Private Jenner decided to light a cigarette and sit next to Nimo. "Where did that thing come from?"
