Chapter 138 - Chapter 138: The Token

In an instant, three of the four werewolves were gunned down.

But just as Soren thought victory was at hand, several individuals wielding ultraviolet weaponry appeared at the top of the stairs and opened fire on his squad.

"Ah—ah—ah—!"

The vampires hit by the shots screamed in agony. Their regenerative abilities were instantly suppressed, and the areas struck rotted and burned through like they had been hit by phosphorus rounds.

Seeing this, Soren quickly led his men to retreat into the apartment, momentarily being suppressed by the werewolves.

He kicked open the bathroom door, intending to grab Michael as a hostage.

However, Michael hadn't waited passively. He had already climbed out the bathroom window and was scaling down the drainage pipe.

When Soren saw the empty room and open window, he cursed:

"Damn it!"

Rushing to the window, he looked down and saw Michael climbing—and below him, a werewolf was climbing up to intercept.

"Michael, duck!"

Hearing someone shout his name from above, Michael glanced down in horror and saw someone climbing toward him.

Soren drew his pistol and fired at the werewolf below Michael.

Several silver bullets hit their mark.

Lucian took the shots hard, but refused to give up. He leapt up, landing on Michael, and bit into his shoulder mid-fall.

Soren, still above, didn't notice the bite and continued firing.

Lucian didn't retaliate. After landing, he tossed Michael aside and fled. While running, he pulled a vial from his pocket and spat Michael's blood into it.

Even if he didn't capture the target, as long as he had the blood, he could determine whether Michael was the one he was searching for.

Once confirmed, there would be more chances.

After storing the blood, Lucian used his enhanced physique to force out the silver bullets. Within moments, his wounds were healed.

With everything done, he quickly left the battlefield. Soren soon arrived and, seeing Michael unconscious but alive, took him away.

The ultraviolet-armed attackers also retreated along with Lucian.

Back at the hideout, Lucian returned empty-handed. The doctor was astonished:

"Even you couldn't capture him? Is this guy some kind of chosen one?"

Lucian wasn't discouraged—in fact, he wore a smile.

"Raze, that idiot, drew the vampires' attention. I ran into a squad of Deathwalkers."

"But it wasn't a total loss—I brought this."

Lucian pulled out a vial of Michael's fresh blood from his pocket.

The doctor grinned and took the vial, saying:

"If Michael really is the one we've been searching for… then the vampires may have realized it too…"

Lucian shrugged casually.

"Relax, man."

"I tasted his flesh. The full moon is in two days."

"Soon, he'll become a werewolf."

"And when he does, he'll come to us."

"Once he transforms, he's no longer a pureblood. He'll be worthless to the vampires."

The doctor wasted no time. He began testing the blood sample, dripping it into a beaker and mixing it with werewolf blood.

"Too bad we don't have a bit more of his blood…"

As he stirred the mixture, the werewolf blood neutralized under the influence of Michael's blood.

The doctor was amazed. "It really is him."

Just then, Raze returned to the base. Seeing Lucian, he reported:

"I sold the intel about the vampires to the Assassin Brotherhood. They should act by tomorrow."

"Once a few vamps die, the Assassin League will definitely respond."

Lucian grinned.

"Let the chaos begin."

The next day.

New York.

John Wick's villa.

Once shared with his beloved, the house had been abandoned since Helen's resurrection. They now lived at headquarters.

His return here today was because of a token he'd left for Xu Xialing.

Xu Xialing looked around at the furniture draped in white cloth and said:

"Looks like you've completely abandoned this place."

"How long's it been—almost a year?"

Though no one lived there, John Wick still came by to clean regularly. There was no dust.

He sat in a single armchair, gazing at her and asked:

"So, Ms. Xu, what brings you here today?"

She didn't hesitate and pulled out the token he had left her last time.

"You used this to take the Dragon Ball from me. This time, I want to use it to get it back."

Hearing her mention the Dragon Ball, John wasn't surprised. He simply shook his head:

"Sorry. I can't do that."

"I no longer have any Dragon Balls."

Xu Xialing didn't believe him. She said:

"John Wick, based on my investigation, you had at least two more Dragon Balls besides mine."

"In all this time, I don't believe you've gained nothing more."

John replied calmly:

"I know you're here for the Dragon Balls."

"You must've received the message—learned about their power."

"But unfortunately, I already gathered them all and made my wish."

"After the wish was granted, they vanished. If you want to make a wish, you'll have to start over."

Xu Xialing's eyes widened in disbelief.

"You're saying… you already gathered all seven and made your wish?"

John nodded.

Xu Xialing took a deep breath, then asked:

"Can you tell me some details?"

John didn't answer right away. Instead, he looked at the token in her hand—the triple-segment bullet symbolizing the Assassin's League—and asked:

"You plan to use that token to trade for intel about the Dragon Balls and wish-making?"
