Girl's POV
In the dead of night when most would be sleeping soundly and unaware to the world around them, I woke up.
I was left unattended in a small dark room, no windows or furniture, just a few large boxes pushed up against a wall. I was left sprawled on the ground, like after being brought here they just dropped me on the floor then left
My head was throbbing, my thoughts were so hazy I couldn't think straight. my body felt heavy and it hurt all over like I was just hit by a truck. My chest was tight and it gave me a terrible stabbing pain whenever I breathed
But still, I knew I had to leave so I forced myself up. as I leaned against the wall catching my breath I took a better look at the room I was in and yeah I was definitely in a storage closet
My phone, my bag and even my shoes were missing, probably long gone by now, that's kidnapping 101 for you.
I briefly searched a few of the open boxes but found nothing useful just a bunch of papers and broken junk. I walked to the door and listened for any movement on the other side after a few minutes of silence I tried opening the door, luckily it was unlocked.
I guess they didn't think that I would wake up so quickly, they didn't even post any guards by my door
The building was surprisingly big and old. The state it was left in lead me to believe that they had brought me to some abandoned warehouse
I carefully made my way down the hallway looking for an exit, carefully avoiding any voices I heard from anyone passing by. The place was so quiet that the voices appeared to be quite loud giving me ample time to find a hiding spot when needed.
I had just found the staircase leading to main floor when I heard the next set of voices approaching from below, so turned back around and ducked behind the closest door.
I had almost completely closed the door when
Creaaak
When the door's hinges made a small creaking noise, forcing me to leave the door slightly ajar
'Shit'
I held my breath, pressing myself closer to wall, I bit my bottom lip silently cursing to myself
"Did you hear that"?
"Yeah but don't freak out over every noise you hear, the building's old and it creaks all the time"
"What if it's the girl"?
'No no no, this was my only chance to get out, I couldn't lose it now I'm so close. I'm in no condition to fight them, if they decide to do search, I would be caught for sure and it would be all over'.
I didn't think my head could hurt anymore than it already did, but my panic thinking somehow made it do so.
"It's not, Peter gave her enough drugs to keep her out until tomorrow, she's not going anywhere"
I waited several minutes after their voices left before I lout out my small sigh of relief
This time I opened the door more carefully, not letting it make any noise and successfully made my way down the stairs.
The main floor had quite a few more people then the second floor did and since I couldn't just leave through the front or back door due to all the guards, so I chose next best thing. A window on the side of the building .
The window was in what used to be an office room, I say used to because it was completely trashed. Making my way through that room to the window without me making any noise was a miracle.
The window opened up to dense forest, I poked my head out the window and sure enough the coast was clear, no guards and it was pretty dark with no lighting, it was perfect.
The window however was a bit on the small side and I almost couldn't lift my left leg over and out of it but after a few tiring minutes I was able to successfully make my way through.
I took a quick break to catch my breath I closed the window back up, leaving it like I was never there.
Drip drip drop phoo
Almost on cue with the window closing, did the sky decide that it was now the time to start raining
'Just perfect, why wouldn't it rain'
I rolled my eyes and slowly made my way towards the forest, the rain now pouring, I started listening to the thunder ring in the not so far distance
The further I went, the darker my surroundings became until eventually I couldn't see anything only darkness
I walked until I couldn't walk anymore
I tripped and crashed pretty hard to the ground not being able to catch myself and just laid there soaked to the bone too tired and hurt to move.
'Is this as far as I can go'?
As I laid there, being pelted by the rain, my body, long numb from the cold and my mind slowly cleared giving way to the nightmarish memories of the previous few days.
I remembered the series of unfortunate events that had happened to me up until this moment
They replayed in my head over and over again, trapping me in an endless nightmare
Unable to keep my emotions in check anymore, I started screaming or at least I tried to, my chest and throat hurt so bad that no sound actually came out
So I just laid there crying my eyes out unable to take the fact that I alone was left out of that massacre, how everything and everyone I ever cared for was now gone, taken from me brutally and mercilessly one by one with no exception.
But that doesn't mean I was spared, no far from it. I was to be used and tortured slowly and painfully until the day I died, that was their plan for me
To hell with that, I refuse to die that way, I refuse to give them the satisfaction of ending me, if I die then it's going to be on my terms no one else's.
Did I deserve to die like a dog?
I wouldn't know, it depends on who you ask, but I couldn't outright deny it. Not with who I was or more accurately who my family were.
I could tell that I wasn't going to last for much longer, I was dying and it was such a pitiful way to die too. I never thought that this was how I'd end myself, ditched my own body in the middle of some god forsaken woods in the middle of nowhere
All alone, broken so bad I can hardly move, half starved, drenched and freezing cold from the rain and not even knowing which would claim me first, slowly dying from hypothermia, starving to death or perhaps from some internal injuries I might have.
A truly pitiful dog's death, yet a satisfying one I could accept , so I couldn't help but smile.
as I lay here dying my enemy left unaware that I have escaped, when they wake up in the morning and notice me missing, they'll search high and low for me, probably paying generously to bring me back to them only to eventually find me already dead in their own backyard.
I couldn't help but laugh while picturing their faces when they realize that they failed, their revenge would forever be left unfulfilled and their anger with no other outlet to vent on.
After a while I stoped laughing and looked up at the sky, oddly enough at the giant circle in the middle of the clouds, like someone had cut out a part of the cloud just big enough to show some stars.
There was one that was isolated from the rest but it shone especially bright. after a while I managed to stand up one last time and started walking towards that star as if it was drawing me closer to it. having nothing left to do I spoke up to the heavens saying my final goodbye, never taking my eyes off of that one lonely yet beautiful star.
" this it for me, there's nothing left for me in this world anymore, everything and everyone I ever loved is gone and I'm left alone with these unbearable memories and no strength left to keep fighting on, it was a short life but one I'm satisfied with. If it's my fate to die then let me die quickly."
I ended my prayer by bowing my head in silence and started a new one giving one last prayer for my fallen loved ones, the rain had somehow gotten heavier, the winds gotten stronger and the thunder got louder.
And yet clear as day I heard a voice
"Well since you no longer have something to live for in that world, how about coming to mine ?"
Before I could register the meaning behind those words, lightning flashed like it was on top of me, it was so bright. The brightest I had ever seen and bright enough to bleed out all colors in existence.
Scared I covered my face and closed my eyes the thunder that followed was also the loudest I had ever heard, it sounded like it was all around me.
