Turning her back to Laurent Taylor’s stuttering figure, she made her way toward the carriage. She shook off the hand he had extended to steady her and climbed in, her face ghostly pale. She was now on her way to a lakeside villa where Damien would be waiting for her, a smirk of victory on his face. As she imagined the loathsome man reproaching her for being late, she formed her hands into fists, trembling with a mix of fear and anger.
She despised him with all her being. She longed to confront him for manipulating everything to his will, to scream at him that her life had spiraled into chaos because of him, and to demand he restore her once tranquil and serene existence.
