----------------------------------------------------------
Divine lightning descended from the sky under Shirou Emiya's control, tearing through the clouds as if it were meant to completely erase the ruined shrine hidden within the forest.
He watched closely.
Carefully.
This was the moment.
Just as the lightning was about to strike the crumbling remains, a strange phenomenon unfolded before his eyes.
Golden divine light bloomed.
It wrapped itself around the shrine ruins, forming a barrier that enclosed everything within.
Shirou Emiya halted the lightning instantly.
His lips curved upward.
"So this is it," he said, a trace of excitement slipping into his voice. "The Hephaestus shrine that still retains divine power."
"It actually still existed?" Liliana asked in disbelief. "But we already investigated this entire shrine before. Why didn't we find it then?"
"It shouldn't be on the surface," Erica replied after a brief moment of thought. Her tone was firm. "This is most likely an underground temple. Otherwise, we would have sensed it already."
"That's right," Shirou Emiya said, watching as the golden barrier slowly faded. "An underground temple."
He gestured forward.
Passing through collapsed stone and shattered remnants, Shirou Emiya led Shuna and the others deeper into the ruins. They soon arrived at what had once been Hephaestus's main temple.
Even here, there was almost nothing left.
The statue of Hephaestus stood broken, only half of it remaining.
Shirou Emiya scanned the surroundings once, then raised his fist and struck the ground.
The stone shattered.
A pitch-black opening revealed itself beneath their feet.
"This should be the entrance to the underground temple."
He glanced at the four behind him.
Then he jumped in first.
"Lord Shirou, please be careful!" Liliana called out instinctively.
"Relax," his voice echoed from below. "There are no mechanisms or traps here that can harm me."
As he descended, the space below opened up.
A vast underground temple stretched out before him.
Even without a single ray of light, Shirou Emiya could see everything clearly. Still, remembering that the others didn't possess night vision, he extended his hand and summoned a flame.
Light spread outward.
Shuna and the others quickly followed him down.
Illuminated by the flame in Shirou Emiya's hand, the appearance of the temple came fully into view.
"What a magnificent structure..."
"There isn't even a trace of decay."
"This really is a miracle."
Hearing their quiet exclamations, Shirou Emiya stepped forward.
The moment he crossed into the temple's true interior, the darkness vanished.
Light ignited.
Torches and firelight that had long since gone out flared back to life all at once, bathing the underground temple in a warm glow.
"I knew it," Shirou Emiya said calmly. "A place that still holds the divine power of the God of Fire couldn't possibly be dark."
"So that's how it was," Erica said. "We hadn't truly entered the temple yet."
"A structure this complete..." Liliana whispered. "Our chances this time are very high."
Shirou Emiya didn't respond.
He simply quickened his pace.
Shuna and the others followed closely behind.
As the one leading the group, Shirou Emiya didn't concern himself with the possibility of traps. In his view, what could ordinary mechanisms possibly do?
The facts proved him right.
The hidden mechanisms embedded throughout the temple activated one after another, but none of them achieved anything.
Before a Godslayer, they were meaningless.
Soon, the group reached the main hall.
"There's still an abundance of divine power here," Shirou Emiya said, his eyes lighting up. His mood rose instantly.
"Liliana."
"Yes!"
Already prepared, Liliana stepped forward, passing Shirou Emiya. She stopped before the broken statue of Hephaestus, then knelt on one knee.
She began to chant.
It was the Ritualistic Word of God Shirou Emiya had personally taught her.
After selecting Hephaestus as his target, Shirou Emiya had gathered extensive information about him. At the same time, he had collected summoning rituals used by witches to call forth Heretic Gods.
Using Liliana as a template, he designed a ritual specifically for her.
One meant to greatly increase the probability of a successful descent.
As the chanting continued, Shirou Emiya felt it clearly.
The divine power within the statue began to stir.
The temple trembled.
The temperature rose.
Firelight grew brighter and more intense.
Everything pointed to the same conclusion.
"He's here," Shirou Emiya said quietly. "Finally."
From the center of the hall, a fierce blaze rose upward. The fire twisted and condensed, gradually taking on a human shape.
The one who descended-
Was the Disobedient Hephaestus.
"To be summoned by an earthly Demon King through a witch," Hephaestus said coldly, "how unpleasant."
The moment he finished speaking, he waved his hand.
A flame shot toward Liliana.
Facing the authority of Hephaestus's flame, Liliana reacted instantly. She raised her beloved sword, Silver Craftsman, and blocked the attack head-on.
"So that's it," Hephaestus said, his gaze shifting. "It's your power protecting her."
As Liliana retreated quickly to Shirou Emiya's side, Hephaestus sensed it clearly.
A power that did not belong to her.
"Of course," Shirou Emiya replied evenly. "I'm quite protective of my subordinates."
After receiving Shirou Emiya's blessing, both Liliana and Erica had reached the level of subordinate gods.
Divine-beast-class combat power.
While a Heretic God could easily kill a divine beast, doing so would require serious effort. Hephaestus's earlier attack had been casual.
Blocking it wasn't surprising.
"You three, withdraw," Shirou Emiya said. "If a Godslayer and a Heretic God fight at close range, you'll be affected."
"Yes, Lord Shirou!"
Aside from little Rimuru, who had already transformed into a bow on Shirou Emiya's back, the other three retreated immediately.
Even now, they still couldn't intervene in a battle at this level.
"You didn't attack right away," Shirou Emiya said as he summoned his twin staves. "It seems you're a relatively gentle Heretic God."
Hephaestus ignored the comment.
Instead, his gaze fixed on little Rimuru.
"Is that a weapon you forged?"
"That's right," Shirou Emiya replied. "What do you think?"
"...A truly miraculous work."
The air grew heavier.
The battle was about to begin.
