A grey wind swept over the earth, stirring an atmosphere of desolation. The entire world seemed cloaked in grey, formed by countless layers of ash.
This grey world stretched endlessly in all directions—no stars, no sun, only infinite shades of grey. The further one looked, the deeper and darker the grey became.
If any living being were to arrive here, the only thing they would feel was despair.
Endless, boundless despair.
In this hopeless realm, a lone figure walked slowly forward. His body was wrapped in a black cloak, and a shroud of black mist surrounded him, pushing away the grey of the world.
If the world was despair, then the aura he emanated was death.
Death and despair—distinct yet not in conflict.
"Why have you come here?" A deep voice echoed from all directions, twisting the world around it like a massive grey vortex.
The cloaked figure finally stopped. Slowly raising his head, two glowing violet eyes pierced through the shadows beneath his hood.
"Abyssal Lord, wasn't it your guidance that led me here?"
"What do you want?" the deep voice demanded, cutting to the heart of his purpose.
"Our goals have always aligned," the black figure said. "You seek endless devouring, to let the Abyss ascend into a divine realm of your own. What I seek is an unending tide of tormented souls—to ascend through death, and shape a divine kingdom of death. In the end, we both seek the same thing."
The swirling distortion halted. The grey world returned to stillness.
From the distance, a grey silhouette approached slowly, moving toward the black-cloaked figure.
The man lifted his head higher, revealing a pale chin and a slight curl at the edge of his lips. He was smiling—smiling in satisfaction. He knew his words had struck the right chord.
And next... no one would be able to stop his plan.
Destruction was merely the beginning. The fools thought his actions were driven by hatred, willing to challenge the world for revenge. But they knew nothing. What he truly sought was to offer the Douluo Continent as a sacrifice—for the birth of his supreme divine kingdom.
'How could mere sparrows understand the will of a soaring swan?'
These people… they were nothing but ants.
From the moment he chose to become the leader of the Holy Spirit Cult, he had already laid the foundation for this distant yet grand vision. And now, this era was the perfect opportunity.
Two silhouettes drew closer, the world around them once again twisting. Yet amidst all the grey, a thread of black now seeped in.
Despair. Death. Destruction...

A flash of light marked Gu You's return to the Star Battle Net. Above his head, two upward-pointing arrows—one gold, one silver—glowed steadily. The silver arrow had appeared after his first mech battle victory, indicating he had qualified for the next round on both fronts.
The second match arrived faster than expected. This high-tech system truly was efficient. Even with tens of thousands of participants, it seamlessly coordinated all matches.
Faint light pulsed around him as Gu You smiled lightly. He brought the golden dragon spear close to his chest, cradling it in both arms.
Only two days of holding the weapon, and already Gu You had noticed subtle changes. For one, the spear now responded to his will—changing size on command.
In his hands, it was now only two feet long, its glow retracted, appearing delicate and even… cute. The crimson gemstone at its tip now shimmered with prismatic color.
The second match was about to begin.
"Match start. Participant: Zijin Wang. Please prepare."
A flash of light transported him once more into the arena. Gu You held his golden spear in one hand and glanced across the field.
His opponent stood tall and slender, likely a woman. Her name was hidden, and the mask concealed her features. He couldn't tell who she was.
"Three… Two… One… Begin!"
"Gu You!" The voice that rang out from across the arena was full of resentment.
Gu You blinked. That voice—it was all too familiar. 'No way... What kind of luck is this?' he thought. 'Is it my luck that's too good, or hers...?'
Yes. That voice could only belong to Long Yuxue.
Before the first match had even started, she had jokingly threatened him not to beat her if they fought.
Now, here they were—facing each other in the second round. Fate truly had a wicked sense of humor.
She had recognized him by the golden dragon spear.
'Seriously?' Gu You thought, speechless.
"Don't think you'll beat me that easily. Fight me fair and square!" Long Yuxue's voice turned cold. And with it, the temperature of the arena plummeted.
Gu You smiled. "Well, I was going to go easy on you… but I guess that reason's out the window now."
"You..." Long Yuxue knew she'd just said the wrong thing. But she had her pride. She wouldn't take it back.
Gu You had never actually fought Long Yuxue before. All he knew was that she excelled at ranged combat and her timing was flawless. But her martial soul and exact strength remained a mystery.
That was, until now.
Five soul rings rose at her feet—two yellow, two purple, one black. An elemental soul master. Her martial soul… was Ice.
Spikes of ice formed around her in layers, turning her into a walking iceberg. Behind the veil of frost, Gu You couldn't see which of her soul rings was activating. But from the frost spreading rapidly across the arena floor, the temperature was dropping fast. The ice spread outward in waves of brilliant blue.
Within moments, the air around Gu You had dropped below -50°C. Every breath turned to frozen mist.
'This… a domain?'
A five-ring Soul King comprehending a domain? No wonder she had already risen to the rank of lieutenant colonel at such a young age.
Gu You hadn't planned to hold back completely, but he was still going to let her make the first few moves. After all, his own elemental attribute was Ultimate Ice—it felt like cheating to go all out from the start.
The temperature kept dropping. The ice spikes around Long Yuxue grew so dense they obscured her completely. In front of Gu You, the air froze on contact, scattering like powdered glass.
'Impressive... but not overwhelming.'
Despite the power of her domain, it hadn't yet covered the entire arena.
