Chapter 46 - Ch. 46 - Yuta Okkotsu!

As the night came and the Jujutsu High fell into silence, four figures could be seen sneaking in the night, bypassing the buildings before walking down the long stairs.

"I hate this," Panda muttered to himself.

"Salmon." Inumaki nodded his head in agreement.

"You guys be quiet!" Maki scolded them with a scowl on her face.

Turning to the side, Maki noticed that Kenshin had been quiet since they left their dorm rooms.

What's he thinking? she wondered to herself.

Unbeknownst to her, Kenshin was thinking of their current mission.

Yuta Okkotsu, at this point, shouldn't be able to control his powers yet, Kenshin however, has a question that has been nagging him in his mind.

I remember that Yuta Okkotsu's cursed spirit is supposed to be a Special-grade one. Why did Satoru leave it on my hands? Unfortunately, Kenshin would never get the answer unless he asked the man himself, which he doubted he would tell the truth.

"What are you thinking?" Maki approached him to the side and whispered.

"…Nothing. I was just thinking why would Principal Masamichi give us the green light for this mission and why just the four of us?" Kenshin have a theory in his mind but he's not sure yet.

Perhaps they know more of what I can do than what I simply show them? Was the theory in his mind.

"I don't know but at least we finally have a mission without supervision for the first time." Maki shrugged her shoulders and unlike their previous mission where their job is to rescue civilians, their mission tonight is to fight a 1st-grade cursed spirit.

"Yeah right. Just don't get too eager. Cursed Spirits are a bunch of unpredictable little shits. One moment you thought you've won and suddenly they pulled something that would make you kneel and pray to god for forgiveness." His words made Maki chuckle slightly.

"Well, as long as it's not a Special-grade Cursed Spirit, I think we'll be just fine." Maki replied with a shrug of her shoulders which Kenshin unknowingly gave her a side eye.

Only if you know who we're going to deal with, Maki-san, muttered Kenshin before mentally shaking his head, better not reveal it this early or else they get shaken up to the fact that they're going to deal with a Special-grade cursed spirit.

One might think that 1st-grade and Special-grade cursed spirits aren't that far between each other, right?

There's actually a very big gap between the two. If a 1st-grade spirit could take down an armed Tank by itself, then the Special-grade spirit could take down an entire army of armed tanks by itself.

"There's Ijichi-san!" By the time they got down the flight of stairs, Panda was the first one to see Ijichi and his lovely sleek black sedan.

"Did you guys really get permission for this." Ijichi stepped forward and asked them with a hint of suspicion. His appearance seemed to be worse than before, the bags under his eyes were more prominent and big, hair disheveled and thinner than usual.

"Didn't the Principal inform you?" Panda scratched his cheek in confusion.

"He did. It's just so hard to believe it. Not only he allowed the first years to take a mission in their own but it even includes Kuroki-san who, from what I've heard, just got enrolled today." Ijichi's eyes fell on Kenshin.

"Maybe he thinks we have higher potential than the previous first years." Maki waved her hand in dismissal before continuing.

"…Alright, let's go. This trip would take at least a few hours." Once Ijichi entered the black sedan, the other followed suit with Panda sitting on front while Kenshin sat on the middle-back with Inumaki and Maki on his left and right side respectively.

————

"I didn't do it. It wasn't my fault." Sitting in the dark corner of the room, a frail teen was bobbing his body forward and backward continuously, mumbling incoherent words.

His eyes kept darting around the room, the silhouettes of his dead bullies haunting him.

"You killed us, Yuta!"

"You're a murderer! A killer!"

"No wonder you have no friends. You're a monster!"

"No! No I'm not!" Yuta cried, covering his ears in the process.

"Y~utaa~ why are you s~ad~?" Suddenly, the silhouettes disappeared when he heard the familiar voice of his dead childhood friend.

"R-Rika-chan…" Yuta's lips quivered, it's not wrong to say that even though Rika has been with him since her death, her violent nature made him slightly afraid of her.

She was also the one who killed his bullies in the most disturbing way possible.

"N-No I'm not Rika-chan…" He gulped his saliva anxiously. Whenever he's sad or gets bullied, Rika would get angry and kill everyone around him, he doesn't want something like that.

I-I'm such a useless person, Yuta closed his eyes and mumbled under his breath, his back leaning on the wall before sliding sideways before his figure now lies on the floor.

I deserve…to die, muttered Yuta before falling asleep.

————

"It's this one." Ijichi said while parking the sedan car not far from the enclosed high school campus.

"We should investigate the place inside first and speak with the parents of those who died. See if there's some connection between the students and a cursed spirit." Ijichi continued, taking the lead forward while the others followed behind him.

Once they arrived at the front gate with a yellow line preventing entry, Ijichi stopped and turned to them.

"This is as far as I can take you. I'll keep watch here outside alert you if anything arises."

Kenshin nodded his head, "Thank you for your help, Ijichi-san."

"It's my job to assist Sorcerers, especially students like you." Replied Ijichi.

Kenshin turned to Maki and the others and nodded their heads in unison.

"Let's go."

————

"Can anyone remind me why we're doing this at night instead of the morning?" Panda whispered a question, his body shivering as the coldness of the night pierced through his thick fur, add to the fact that they're alone in a haunted school where five students died from a Cursed Spirit.

"We don't want to get attention. Jujutsu Sorcerers are supposed to be discreet in their missions." Maki rolled her eyes at Panda's unnecessary fear.

"Right. Right. Can anyone remind me why we didn't bring a flashlight?"

"Can you just shut up! You're a Panda, you can see in the dark!" Maki bellowed at Panda before smacking him behind the head.

She continued, "We're the ones who's supposed to be scared in the dark, not you!"

"Right…"

Now that Panda finally turned quiet, they took another turn until they arrived at a classroom with more yellow lines than the others.

"This must be the scene of the crime." Kenshin casually lifted the yellow lines and entered.

Maki and Inumaki followed while Panda, with his huge body, had to drop on the ground and roll.

Kenshin almost laughed at such comedic relief.

"According to the police reports. They found the bodies of five students, all mangled and crammed inside this locker." Kenshin spoke while pointing at the locker in the further end corner of the room, typically the one where cleaning tools are placed.

"Unfortunately, the police has already taken the mangled bodies in their custody so we won't be able to determine if it's really a Cursed Spirit who did it and trace it." Continued Kenshin with an unfortunate shake of his head, feigning ignorance of the truth.

"This mission would be harder than I expected." Maki clicked her tongue in annoyance.

Kenshin scanned his eyes around the room and found something that caught his attention.

A table, at the farthest end of the room, was filled with scribbles all over it, some lines bordering 'Kill youself', "Die!', and even a 'Jump off the building!'

"Oh man. Bullies." Panda also approached the chair and after reading the words scribbled, shook his head in sadness.

"Tsk. These kind of people are the most pathetic ones. Only daring to bully those who can't fight back." Maki remarked with a scowl.

"Salmon." Inumaki's face also turned grim.

"…I think I finally found our first clue." Kenshin spoke amidst the silence of the surroundings.

"What?" Maki raised an eyebrow.

"Have you guys heard of school shootings in America?"

"Of course. But what's a school shooting relate here?" Panda was confused.

"Well, typically, those school shootings are orchestrated mostly by the bullied students, targeting their bullies who made their lives miserable."

Maki's eyes widened as she immediately understood where Kenshin is going to.

"Are you saying that the death of those students are orchestrated by this bullied student?" She asked, referring to the mangled bodies and the owner of the chair with threatening words.

"Yes. And we just got ourselves a name." Kenshin smirked and pointed at a specific line on the chair seat.

'Yuta Okkotsu, The Useless One!'

"Are you even sure about this, Kenshin-san? Are you saying this Yuta is the one who killed his bullies?" Panda scratched his chin.

"It doesn't hurt to try. And besides, at least we have something to start with and even if I'm wrong, then what's the harm of starting back to square one?" Kenshin shrugged his shoulders before walking towards the exit.

"Where are you going?" Maki asked him.

"To the faculty room. They probably keep the personal addresses of their students there." Kenshin replied without stopping.

————

Yuta woke up from the sunlight peering through the gaps of his curtain.

Unconsciously, Yuta put on his bloodied uniform and shoes and was about to leave, completely forgetting the fact that his school is on lockdown due to the killings yesterday.

Just as he opened the front door, he suddenly froze in shock as four figures stood just outside.

What caught his attention was the panda standing on two legs.

Before Yuta could utter a word, the three of them suddenly launched themselves forward. The panda grabbed his shirt and pushed him backwards while the girl took out a long Naginata and pointed the blade on him while the other glared at him with a slightly open mouth.

"Stop!" The last remaining man, with a calm composure yelled at the three, rubbing his forehead in the process.

"Kenshin-san….this guy absolutely reeks of Cursed Spirit smell!" Panda growled, not letting go of Yuta's shirt.

"If you three wants to die, go and help yourself." Kenshin warned them, his senses could already tell the fluctuations in Yuta's emotion, probably the effect of Rika-chan about to emerge.

"Release him." Kenshin gave the final order.

Albeit hesitant, the three finally released their hold on Yuta and slowly backed away, their suspicious eyes not peeling off from Yuta.

However, much to Kenshin's surprise, the fluctuations didn't stop, instead, it seemed to intensify!

Kenshin's eyes widened in surprise and without hesitation, pulled the trio away from Yuta just in time as a heavy pressure descended throughout the room.

Boom!

A white figure with a large open mouth and vertical lines as its eyes emerged from Yuta's behind.

"Y~uta~ is someone bullying you again?" The cursed spirit's quivering voice echoed across the room.

"N-No! Rika-chan, don't!" Yuta panicked, the scene of Rika massacring his bullies flashed in his mind. He doesn't want the same thing to happen again!

H~ow dare you b~ully my Y~uta~!" Just as the pressure starts to increase and the figure of Rika starts to enlarge, a single voice echoed amidst the noise.

"[Mind Magic: God's Slumber]" Kenshin's eyes turned serious as he cast his current highest mind magic in his arsenal.

The pressure and the noise instantly disappeared as if it never existed to begin with.

The violent Rika suddenly lost control over her limbs and slowly retracted back inside Yuta, who stared at this in surprise.

"Don't let your guard down. She'll brute force herself out of it if she sensed your emotions fluctuating again. Make sure to calm yourself down and come with us." Walking calmly forward, Kenshin stretched his hand and offered it for Yuta to take.

"You're not alone in this anymore, Yuta Okkotsu."
