Chapter 43 - Ch. 43 - Jujutsu High Scholarship?

After visiting his parents and recharging their protective runes, Kenshin finally left the supermarket—just in time as he saw Inumaki rushing back inside with a familiar face.

"An Oni samurai? Are you sure?" Nanami asked Inumaki who nodded his head.

"Salmon."

"…" Even until now, Nanami is still weirded out by Inumaki's way of speech but nevertheless, the nod of his head is enough as an answer.

They both increased their speed, oblivious to Kenshin who has been watching them from up above.

Giving their departing backs a last glance, Kenshin flew back home.

———

"It must've been a robbery but with so many explosions! Thank the heavens we were able to find other survivors who pulled us to a storage room just in time!" Listening to their mom telling them about their encounter in the supermarket, both Yasaka and Tomoko looked worried while Kenshin calmly ate his meal. Their father was out to collect his insurance for the car that was destroyed in the parking lot.

Yasaka briefly glanced at him and with just a single second of eye contact, they're already established communication.

So they were the reason why you hurriedly left without telling anything, she mused.

There was no time for explanation, he shrugged.

Understandable, she nodded.

By the time their dinner was finished, Yasaka insisted on cleaning the table and washing the dishes while Tomoko happily went back to her room, thankful to Yasaka for doing her house chores for today.

As for Kenshin, he retreated to his room also, a bit exhausted from his fight with the Cursed Spirit earlier.

Plopping on the bed, Kenshin brought his Status panel up.

[Name: Alistair Abara, Kuroki Kenshin

This brought a smile to his face. He always liked the feeling of seeing his stats improving day by day, even dating back to when he was grinding in the world of Fantazio.

"With these stats, I could finally stand a small chance against some strong opponents. I wouldn't have to worry about watching over my back from time to time."

After one last look at his stats and his Skills section screen, Kenshin slowly drifted to sleep, the darkness consuming his vision.

———

Kenshin was just sleeping peacefully when all of a sudden, a heavy weight pressed against his chest.

Opening his eyes, he saw the familiar golden hair of Yasaka, her head resting on his chest, her entire body straddled on top of him.

"What's the matter?" Kenshin raised a brow and asked in concern. He brought his hand to caress her silky and smooth hair.

"Nothing. Your mom just told me to come wake you up, there's a letter downstairs for you." Yasaka pushed herself out of Kenshin's chest and stretched her body on all fours, her ass poking out from behind while her chest pressed down on him like a cat.

The scene almost took his breath away but thankfully, her words snapped him out of it.

"A letter? Who even uses letters nowadays?" Remarked Kenshin with a chuckle.

After Kenshin jumped out of the bed in which Yasaka eagerly replaced him as she kept rubbing her body on the warm spot of where he laid down, Kenshin left his room and marched downstairs.

When he saw the surprised faces of his mom and dad while holding an open letter, Kenshin already knew he wouldn't like the incoming news.

"What?" Seeing the two staring at him, Kenshin felt confused.

Without answering, his mom simply handed him the letter.

A single glance and Kenshin's face turned grim.

It's a goddamn scholarship letter!

And not just a scholarship from any school but an extremely familiar one.

Jujutsu High scholarship!

Although it's not a surprise that they already knew where he lived but the fact that they wanted to enroll him in their school is a surprise.

"We can just refuse this, right? I mean, I haven't even heard of this school and besides, I'm already enrolled in Kuoh Academy aren't I?" Kenshin placed the letter on the table and said.

"…Son, that's a scholarship right there. It says that your enrollment for the next four years with them is free." His father pushed the rim of his glasses and stated the fact.

Well, he's right but they'd be leaving Tokyo soon, and attending it would be a hassle.

Or at least, that's supposed to be the best reason until his father said something that made him roll his eyes.

"My transfer to Kuoh City was rejected and someone replaced me. So I don't think we'd be leaving Tokyo anytime soon." Just by how he looks away and fiddles with his fingers, his father is embarrassed about this.

"….Sigh. I'll go and see this school by myself, you don't have to come with me." With a defeated sigh, Kenshin went back upstairs to prepare himself.

After taking a bath, Kenshin ignored the heavily sleeping Yasaka on his bed and quietly dressed for the day.

———

Thankfully, he didn't have to bother looking all around Tokyo just to get to their school grounds as the letter is said to provide transportation with just a call away.

And calling them he did. It didn't even take an hour before a sleek black car arrived in front of their house. The familiar face of Ijichi appeared on the rolled-down window of the driver's seat.

"Good morning." Kenshin waved his hand at him and entered the passenger seat.

The journey was a bit quiet, with neither side speaking nor initiating a conversation.

Ijichi just seemed too focused on his job of delivering the 'new' student to Jujutsu High like he always does for almost a few years in his line of work.

Kenshin also didn't like to talk, preferring to keep to himself until he met the principal.

'Those three would be surprised to see me.' Kenshin mentally snorted just by imagining the annoyed face of Maki once they met in the dorms.

Eventually, the journey only took an hour before arriving deep inside a forest where there an extremely high stairs that would make a certain panda die of a heart attack.

Though this is nothing to Kenshin.

"This will be as far as I can take you, Sir Kuroki. Just walk up this flight of stairs and someone up there will meet you." Ijichi spoke from behind, bowing his head before taking his leave.

"Okay…" Kenshin's voice trailed as he started marching. As much as he wanted to simply fly his way up there, there's a nagging feeling in his gut that someone is watching him climb the stairs.

He can't just risk exposing himself more than he already did. Better to keep some of his trump cards. Anime or not, this is real life, no longer a fictional world.

By the time Kenshin reached the top, he was greeted by an expressionless woman with eyebags under her eyes, wearing a doctor's white coat.

'Shoko Ieiri.' Kenshin mumbled under his breath. Although not exactly strong in a sense but her ability to use the Reverse Cursed Technique that heals wounds and even regenerates limbs makes her feared.

"Are you the new student?" Puffing on the cigarette she's smoking, Shoko looked into his eyes with a question.

"No, not exactly. I haven't accepted yet." Kenshin shook his head and replied.

Shoko frowned, probably not expecting such an answer.

"You have guts, kid. Do you know what Jujutsu High is all about? Why are you even here?" Her words made Kenshin take out the scholarship letter that the Jujutsu High gave to him.

After handing it to Shoko, her frown lessened.

"Ah, I see. So it's that bastard who recommended you." Although her last sentence was whispered and not intended for Kenshin to hear, he still did.

'By bastard, she meant Satoru, right? That guy is a pain in the ass.' Kenshin mentally sighed in defeat.

What else can he do? He already caught the white-haired sorcerer's attention, there's nothing he can do about it.

Besides, it's not like he's expecting to remain unnoticed forever. He wasn't just expecting it to happen sooner.

"Come with me. I'll bring you to the principal." Folding and tucking the paper inside her coat pockets, she gestured for him before walking towards the largest building in the vicinity.

Inside, Kenshin felt the familiar atmosphere and environment similar to when Yuji was first taken in.

Far back in the middle of the cave-like room, a middle-aged man with a strong stature sat on a mat wearing the iconic sunglasses.

"Principal, it's Kuroki Kenshin. He's here." Shoko said while handing the letter to him.

"He's the Principal of Tokyo Jujutsu High, Mr. Masamichi Yaga."

"I see." Masamichi carefully grabbed the letter and read its contents for a while before taking out a lighter and lighting it on fire.

"I'll be asking you this, Kuroki-dono." Once the paper had turned into mere ashes, Masamichi finally lifted his head and stared at Kenshin's eyes.

"What do you think of Cursed Spirits and Jujutsu Sorcerers?"

"….A bunch of misfits that cause nothing but trouble all around the world." Kenshin casually answered. At first, his words might sound arrogant or naive but if you look closely into them, his words are the truth.

"Why do you think so?" Masamichi showed no change in his expression, wanting to know the reason behind the answer first.

"Well, first of all, if the Cursed Spirits didn't exist, there would be no sorcerers and by far, the only thing I noticed that the two parties have done is to cause trouble. I'm not saying that I blame the Sorcerers. It's just that you guys have been too focused on eliminating the PRESENT Cursed Spirits instead of finding a way to fully vanquish them from this world."

The moment Kenshin got his hands on Cursed Energy, his unique magic ability allowed him to peer through it and discover some hidden secrets behind it.

They say that Cursed Energy originates from the negative emotions that all living things produce. That is only half the truth.

There's already a Cursed Energy existing before it was discovered. It just remained dormant until a negative energy that came from negative emotions came in contact with it and caused a spark between the two, triggering the Cursed Energy's inherent properties.

Remove the dormant Cursed Energy and that'll solve the problem. The negative energy isn't the problem here.

Unfortunately, Kenshin won't be revealing this to them anytime soon. It would just attract unwanted attention not just from the Cursed Energy users but also from all kinds of supernatural beings all around the world!

Devils have been confirmed to exist and so are the others like Gods, Angels, and such. The Holy Energy in his Nuclear Magic Fusion Reactor is the living proof!

Until Kenshin is sure of his strength, he'll keep the necessary information to himself.
