Chapter 1 - Origin

My name is Amara, and I live my life surrounded by wolves.

I come from a strong family of healers. Our human neighbors call us gypsies due to our reputation for not staying in one place for long. Moving helps keep our secret safe. The humans we live amongst are ignorant to the existence of the supernatural. It is law to protect our secret.

I have been serving the BloodMoon pack for 3 years now. Life is peaceful under alpha Damien. I love tending to the townspeople. Most of my job is healing small injuries and illnesses. It's only when I'm called to the pack house that I tend to the seriously injured. Mostly warriors injured protecting the town.

That is where I met him. Hayden, son of Damien and future alpha to the BloodMoon pack. He is beautiful, strong and caring. I tended to the wounds he sustained defending us from a rouge attack. He is a wolf which means he could never be an option for me.. but I swear I felt something when I was around him.. a spark perhaps? Maybe it's just due to how attractive he is with his long dark hair and emerald green eyes. Any woman would swoon.

There is a chill in the air, signs of winter soon approaching. Babes and the elderly are starting to get sick. My medicinal teas go quickly around this time.

I'm pulled out of my thoughts due to a stinging sensation on my arm.

"Ow!" I look for the cause of my sudden pain when my eyes land on ocean blue eyes that belong to my friend Rachael. Rachael is human and the daughter of a well known blacksmith. Her fiery red hair match her personality. Rachael has been studying under me for the last 2 years and has become a close friend.

"Serves you right for ignoring me! Next time it wont just be a little pinch." She said with a snicker. "Did you hear anything I said?"

I rubbed my sore arm and smiled sheepishly. "I'm sorry. You know I lose myself when I'm with my herbs. I'm all ears this time I promise."

Rachael rolled her eyes but couldn't help the small smile that formed on her lips. "I hear prince Hayden is in town! Maybe we will get to finally see if the rumors about his good looks are true!"

I blushed. "Finish your tinctures and put them on the shelf."

"Yes boss" Rachael said with an eye roll.

"I'm going to take these teas to lady willow. Finish stocking the dried herbs and then call it a night. I will see you in the morning."

"I didn't realize it was so late. I guess I won't get to see the handsome prince today." Rachael said in a disappointed tone. My heart squeezed a little.

"Get a grip Amara. He is NOT an option," I said to myself. I have to keep my emotions under control. Healers blend in easily with humans, however I developed a strange trait the moment I became a woman… my blue eyes glow a bright azure when my emotions run high. I have never met another healer with the same affliction. I have kept it hidden this entire time. I will be 18 years in a weeks time. I can't shake this feeling that something is coming. Something big.

I stopped at a few shops on my way to lady willows. Nothing brings me greater joy than smelling the fresh flowers at the corner market. Such a beautiful arrangement of exotic flowers brought over from other towns.

"Good afternoon lady Amara! Anything catch your fancy today?"

"Good afternoon Seth. I'm just looking. You always have the most beautiful flowers."

"Nothing as beautiful as you m'lady. I do have something for you." Seth quickly turned around and grabbed something under his stand. He sat down one of the most beautiful Lotuses I had ever seen. My eyes became saucers.

"Micah they are beautiful!" I couldn't stop staring at them.

"I know they are your favorite. They are for you m'lady." He said with a cute smirk.

"For me… Seth… I don't know what to say… thank you.."

"Your welcome beautiful. Come back next week. We are getting a new delivery. "

I couldn't help but smile. Seth is very handsome and such a flirt. He uses his dimples like a weapon. I picked up my lotuses and shoved them under my nose. As I turned to leave I ran into something hard. As I searched for the culprit I was confronted by beautiful emerald eyes. I couldn't help but stare.

"Hello lady Amara. I was wondering if I would be running into you today."

My heart stopped. Hayden.
