Chapter 62 - Epilogue

Mary and Sophia brought Scorpius' suggestion to the Order and got mixed responses. Some were delighted to get a designated area to test things outside, others, McLaggen among them, thought this was just another way for the Ministry to control them. He also tried to discredit Sophia because she had accepted a job with the Ministry, but he was shot down at once by Fred and a few others who pointed out that many of them had worked for the Ministry and been members at the same time.

Sophia also told the rest what she had learnt about McLaggen's own failure at his Ministry job and played the recording of what he had said in the interview with Rose Malfoy. That led to even more people ignoring his continued protest. McLaggen then started threatening to ban them all from being in the Base, since it was on his property. None of them cared much about that either, since Scorpius had said they were more than welcome to erect buildings or whatever they needed on the property.

In the end, most of the Order of the Hidden Dragon moved to Wiltshire. Only a few remained with an increasingly disgruntled McLaggen, and after a month, only he and three others hadn't moved their lab area to Wiltshire. They insisted on paying Scorpius a little in rent, and he would get the same benefits as the members, if any of their inventions became profitable. Fred and Ron Weasley had already taken interest in a few of their projects, thinking it could be sold out of their joke shop. Harry and Hermione were invited to test a few things in development for potential use in the Ministry, but not all of it was worth the hassle. Hermione was most interested in what Sophia could do with technology, and since she now worked for the Ministry, she didn't need to test most of that with the Order.

Sophia thrived at her new job. She also enjoyed spending time with Albus, and after a somewhat awkward first official meeting, she also got along with his family.

Albus was also nervous about meeting Sophia's family, but he hadn't needed to worry. They were perfectly friendly and knew enough about the Wizarding World that they understood what he was talking about, but also didn't know who his father was. Sophia's aunts gaped when he introduced himself with his full name, but they didn't say anything. Not to him directly, anyway, but Sophia confided later that her aunt Carrie had been annoyed that she hadn't realised who he was at once.

Mary and James also started spending time together. At first Mary thought he was just grateful, but it soon became more than that. The two couples often went on double dates, and James was happy without it causing a seizure.

Yang had a long recovery and, in the end, never returned to field work as an Auror. Harry gave him an administrative position where he didn't have to interact much with others, which he preferred.

The Knocker was sent to top security in Azkaban, after being shown that his chains were quite removable, and that none of his beasts were controlled by them any longer. Although they never found his true identity, they found a number of aliases, and he was charged with crimes from a vast number of European countries. Without stimulation in Azkaban, he became a bitter and grumbling old man and died disappointed many years later. No one missed him.
