Chapter 41 - Ravages of Lies (II)

Cyn had escaped.

How she escaped was a nightmare never ending. Concussive blasts after concussive blasts dropped onto the building that acted as one of the fronts to the underground hideout carved into the city of Sevenren's base.

The burly man she recognized as Don Extea from The Outro Restro had went first to deal with the situation. Others quickly followed following his command before he went out.

"Come and help out as reinforcements only after five minutes have passed and I have neither came back in crashing or alive." Don Extea paused at that point and exhaled, "And rain down like The One who Walked."

Everything that followed happened so quickly that survivors chose to dive deeper into the chambers below, while she stayed. She stood waiting for her parents. Her siblings clutched onto her for a minute or two before she opened their arms and kicked them to one of the mothers she had been helped by.

No words were exchanged between Cyn and the mother. Not even a glance, Cyn kept staring out letting her tethers go. The mother took the kids hands delicately and gently pulled them into the group of kids she had become a mother to since the war began tethered to them.

Her siblings vanished. She vanished too.

Unlike dying in a mist of blood, Cyn ran out into the mythical magic she read of in school.

She did not look up or wait even a moment.

Stride after stride she ran, running against the winds, shockwaves and debris that could kill her before she even knew she had been.

All the while she muttered, "If gods won't save them, if the ones supposed to protect my parents won't save them,…" A sharp rock cut her across her right upper arm, "if everyone lies, then I'll sin too. I am sorry mom, I can't keep my promise-" Another cut across her thigh as one more pebble ricochet off a wall and bounces off her back. She slams down face first.

Tears and blood drenched her face. Blood that wasn't hers. Her lips bruised, she began crawling. She spoke into the dirt the final words, her heart wanted to cry out.

"The world's a ruin, and if it is a sin to save it. I'll sin for the past it gave, I'll sin for the future I envision, I'll sin until I choke on my bloody sins of saving ruins!" She breathed every word from the book of Roso follower of The One who Walked. Each word made her heart ache, each step that followed it hurt her soul. Yet, she ran.

Cyn had escaped.

The mystical phenomena in eastern quadrant had subsided to a dull. The three adolescent youths comprising of one girl and two boys dragged their feet. Taking turns to lean on the other two. Still the boys had not taken their hands off their female companion's chest.

Their arms had lost near to all sensation after the last pursuit by some knights of a nation they hadn't learned of because of the school they went to. The knights were from the Kingdom of Streno.

Escaping them did not happen on their own terms but rather they were spared. They were spared as the knights cornered them only to look at the three and walk away.

Right now, in the eastern quadrant they were about to cross into the southern quadrant. The younger boy thought he heard footsteps.

"Are-are they back?" He asked his eyes shut black from something he never knew hit him. The other male of the group looked back and forth. "I,uh-I don't see anybody." His hearing had not been good before the war and now it is worse than that.

Through chittering teeth the girl said, "Um, uh, we..we could..we could just keep..moving." She did not stutter because of her clothes cut to ruins or that she could feel the locked grasp of the hands on her chest. Her reason was the way the two hid behind her while the knights stared at the three of them.

To her if she had any dignity left, it would be nothing more than a lie she would be telling herself.

Cyn ran first towards after escaping the hideout to one of the nine personified lanes. Lanes that were named after people who were alive. At the very least they were supposed to. None in the territory of Sevenren when the war for the city began.

She was right at the alley that opened into the Edwo's Advance. One of the lanes that joined the eastern quadrant to the center and the northern quadrant of the city of Sevenren.

Before she even stepped there, Shrik caught her. "Where do you think you are running off to? I did not see you among the survivors in the third chamber!" He grabbed on both her shoulders.

Cyn instinctively bit down on his right hand. He saved her from dying by trying to bite his hand as he instantly took several steps back.

"Crap!" He realized he had taken too many. Cyn took that chance and ran. She ran like she had sinned.

Before Shrik could pursue her, he was once again slammed into a plane surface by a descending storm.

"Ooh, do try to escape again! I am looking forward to it." Mellow voice giggled.

He had a battle to fight, one he could not delay more. 'I have already used the same lesio six times already anymore won't be good for me or this city.'

Cyn even as she ran noticed the lie her supposed savior had said. "Liar! The third chamber had been destroyed even before I was brought there."

She ran and ran. Sometimes zigzagging, other times dodging sudden pursuers who outran her. Only because the same pursuers were attacked by her other pursuers. A child in a battlefield may as well be a an egg waiting to be crushed under the hammer.

How long she ran, she didn't know. Except one thing, the sun had rose along its path. The part of the city she ended up in was completely unrecognizable to her. Her mother had taken her around the city quite often introducing her to the city's history she herself learned.

Not recognizing she felt more of a stranger than a prey caught in an inescapable trap. Cyn took steps one at a time, slowly. But it echoed. It echoed louder than what she even wished for.

She heard voices. "Are-are they back?"

"I, u-I don't see anybody."

"Um, uh, we..we could..we could just keep..moving."

To hide herself, Cyn stuck close to a dilapidated wall. It was strange to her mind to hide near the only wall that has vines growing on it as the rest around her were grayed due to the ash that covered them.

Before she looked in the street that the voices came from, she hit her foot against a broken sword. It was missing a large portion of its blade, literally cut down to a third of its length.

Cyn kicked it up and caught the handle. Her foot sore from kicking it. "Uh, it's heavy. What is it made of?" She wasn't trained more than three classes into basic weapon stances.

Taking a deep breath, she peeked into the street. And her anger flared. 'What kind of a sick bastards are they?!'

She did not hide behind the wall. Before she could be seen in the street, her angry quick voice sounded. "What are you two doing assaulting a girl!"

Cyn brandishing a sword stood few metres away from the same three adolescent youths who were recently stared down by Streno knights.

And now by Cyn.
