"What are you?"

Yammy lowered his massive foot and studied the figure before him with puzzlement. Sado Yasutora stood tall, his right arm raised, but the aura around him felt wrong—neither Shinigami nor Hollow. It was closer to an ordinary human, yet carried some strange mutation. Yammy had never seen such a thing. For once, his bloodlust gave way to curiosity.

Sado did not answer. His gaze fell to his arm, where pain surged through bone and muscle. His skin was pale beneath the dark tone of his face. That casual kick from the giant had nearly shattered his Right Arm of the Giant—the arm born of his resolve to protect, whose essence was defense itself. Yet even that had been overwhelmed.

Who are these monsters
?

"Sado, are you okay?" Orihime's anxious voice came from behind, where she shielded Tatsuki.

Ignoring his own injuries, Sado's words came fast and heavy. "Inoue, take her and run! These two
are far too strong! With our abilities, we cannot stop them. If you stay, we'll all die here!"

Sweat rolled from his forehead. His tone left no room for doubt.

Orihime bit her lip, torn. "But you—"

"Go!" His roar silenced her hesitation. "I'll hold them back! Find Ichigo! These two
only he might be able to fight them. Hurry!"

The severity in his voice struck her. She gritted her teeth, forced down the ache in her chest, and pulled Tatsuki away. Though it tore her apart to abandon him, she knew he was right. Their only hope lay in Ichigo.

Yammy's laughter rumbled behind them. "Hey, where do you think you're going?!"

Sado's fist answered him first. The black arm swung forward, air cracking with force as it drove into Yammy's chest.

Boom!

The blow landed square, but Yammy didn't even flinch. The shock traveled back through Sado's bones; his expression collapsed as pain exploded in his knuckles. His fist had struck a wall harder than steel, a wall that did not move. His strength, enough to pulverize iron, had accomplished nothing.

Yammy sneered, eyes narrowing. His own massive fist rose and came down like a hammer.

Crash!

The impact caved Sado's chest, blasting blood from his mouth as his body shot backwards. He tore through tree after tree until he finally skidded into the dirt.

"Sado!!" Orihime's cry split the air. Her body went rigid with terror as she saw him collapse, broken and bloodied, the word "Baka
" trembling from his lips before he fell unconscious.

Her eyes burned, but there was no time to weep. Clutching Tatsuki, she forced herself to run, her heart beating like it might shatter.

"Don't run from me!" Yammy bellowed, his towering body leaping high. His shadow fell over them, ready to crush them into pulp.

Orihime froze. Her legs threatened to give way beneath her. Death loomed in an instant. But she forced down her fear, her voice breaking into a desperate scream:

"Three days, form a shield—I reject!!"

Golden light erupted, condensing into a triangular barrier that blazed between her and Yammy. The shield gleamed, sturdy as iron, shining with the power of her resolve.

Yammy smirked. His kick shattered it in a heartbeat. The glowing barrier burst apart, fragments scattering like glass. Hinagiku, Baigon, and Lily—her tiny shield-spirits—screamed as they vanished, their forms dissolving into nothing.

"Pathetic," Yammy scoffed, contempt flooding his voice.

Orihime gasped, terror knotting her stomach. But she screamed again, "Koten Zanshun—Tsubaki, I reject!!"

Light flared from her hairpin, the spirit of her attack hurtling forward in a golden streak.

Yammy's hand shot out casually, catching the fragile light. "Trash." His fingers closed, and Tsubaki's body burst apart in a spray of spiritual blood, leaving not even dust.

"Tsubaki!!" Orihime's cry tore her throat. Despair crushed her. Her defenses shattered, her only attack annihilated. Every fragment of hope bled away before this monster's strength. She was nothing but an insect before his eyes.

Her legs trembled, her vision blurred. Is this
all I am? Just an ant?

Yammy's grin widened as he reached down, fingers outstretched to crush her skull. "Lost the will to fight already? How boring."

"Inoue, do something!!" Tatsuki's weak voice trembled with desperation.

But Orihime could not move. She could only stare as death drew closer.

The shadow of Yammy's hand fell across her face. The air itself felt heavy, pressing down, ready to end her.

And then—

"Hey."

The faint, almost lazy voice slid through the chaos. "Beating up women isn't something a man should do."

Time seemed to pause. Orihime's head snapped up, her eyes widening. Tatsuki turned toward the sound, breath catching. Even Yammy and Ulquiorra shifted their gaze.

A boy in a loud, floral shirt strolled out of the sunlight, expression calm, as if the carnage around him was nothing more than a passing inconvenience.

Orihime's heart leapt violently in her chest. She knew that figure, that presence.

"Su
Su Li-san!!" Her voice trembled with relief, tears breaking loose as she shouted his name.

The pied boy had arrived.

It was Su Li.
