Chapter 9 - Chapter Eight: The Enigma

Matter. But Adam still insisted this was a crucial clue, and perhaps only he could uncover the killer now! What exactly was Helen thinking? What kind of ordeal had she faced, plunging her into such distress? If Allison were still alive, there might be a way to find some leads, but now it was impossible to know.

Could it be... that he truly needed to obtain other diary pages? Regardless, the clue Matthew Lucas sacrificed his life for absolutely could not be wasted! He reorganized his thoughts.

If Allison was murdered because she concealed something, then the killer must have known what she was hiding, or at the very least, known that she was indeed hiding something. So, could it have been Christopher Phillips? Perhaps he guessed what Allison was hiding and killed her? No, after Allison's death, he himself stated that Allison had hidden things from him, which makes no sense. So, was it someone else?

No, more importantly, what was Allison hiding? If the killer murdered her because of this, then at least one thing is proven: what she was hiding would threaten the killer's capture. If that's the case, then perhaps she herself didn't realize it was the key to apprehending the killer... But what kind of secret could it be?

No matter what, he had to find some clue... otherwise, he couldn't move forward. He recalled Liam Howard mentioning Helen deliberately avoiding Christopher, and Christopher's agitation at that time—if it was a smokescreen... did that mean Helen was indeed avoiding Christopher? Could Christopher have caused her some harm? And their gazes spoke volumes, conveying emotions that words could not express. In them, there was heartache, there was tenderness.

"All these years, you've worried about me. Because I always do dangerous things, you've always had to worry about me... But now, it's alright. Everything is about to end, Fiona..."

"So, do you know? Who is the non-existent killer?" Fiona asked, a hint of surprise in her voice.

"I don't know who the killer is yet, but... I have my responsibility. You're right, Fiona, I think, perhaps everything will end, perhaps everything will... But I believe my abilities have meaning for people. Although I hate death, although I don't want to get involved anymore... I want to be an ordinary person. But perhaps this is my destiny? Heaven arranges cases to happen around me, forcing me to confront them. And my abilities have indeed saved some people. The existence of this ability represents the mission I must fulfill. So... I think I will continue to be active as a novelist detective for a long time..."

"Adam..." Fiona, for some reason, felt happy hearing his words.

"Including this case, I will continue to be a detective... Fiona, I will continue to make you worry..."

"It's alright, truly alright. That Adam, who is so vibrant when he's deducting, is also the Adam I love!"

As a novelist detective, Adam's legend would continue.

"Fiona. Do you know the flow of life?" Adam suddenly asked, a seemingly abrupt question.
