Chapter 79 - Extortion

Bu Wan had a huge smile on her face as she instantly took the opportunity to ask.

"What did you receive from the palace".

"A technique" he responded.

"What technique".

"The blood transformation art".

"What does the technique do".

"It changes your body on a small scale to your liking".

Her smile grew wider "where is it".

"In my robes".

She unceremoniously stripped him down, taking his clothes off and searching his belongings. She found many talismans, some spirit stones and one technique. It was the blood transformation art in written text. She quickly put away in her robe before asking more questions.

"What else did you get".

Gu Zhi knew he had to tell the truth, but that didn't mean he had to tell her everything.

"Women" he eventually said.

"Women? How so".

"I received women to breed with" he said.

Bu Wan had a look of confusion on her face before asking "anything else?".

"My son" he replied.

Bu Wan was getting mad but she would keep pressing until he said nothing and the truth crystal lit up.

"My ring" Gu Zhi eventually said.

Bu Wan kept pushing and pushing and it was getting harder and harder for Gu Zhi to stall, sure he could tell her what she was doing was wrong, or remain silent but he knew that wouldn't end well. There was little oversight for interrogations, especially ones like these. It didn't take a genius to know that she could kill him and blame it on something entirely untrue and get away with it. Either way he was pretty much fucked. It was very possible she would end up killing him after taking everything just to keep him quiet. This was why the cultivation world was so violent. It's because violence was the end all and be all of power. Power was forcing people to do your bidding with or without their consent.

She brought his hand up to observe his ring. She took a close look at it and the insignia it had before going stiff. She recognized that symbol, that ring. Horror was painted on her face as she went absolutely silent and look of disbelief appeared on her face.

To Gu Zhi it was very awkward. He was sure he was done for, only for complete silence to appear as soon as she took his hand. He didn't know if he should be flattered or worried.

"....Where did you get this ring?" she asked after a long time.

"I got it from the palace... the guide gave it to me".

"What did they say when then gave you this ring?".

"Umm, I think it was something like, some doors are open for heroes".

"...You're free to go".

"What?"

"I said you're free to go, take your technique and go".

She then handed him the technique before clapping her hands. As soon as the clap resounded he found himself back at his room. He was quite perplexed but seeing that his wife had yet to return he quickly went back down and grabbed the ambrosia. He had no idea what the ring signified, but if he had to guess it was quite the status. To turn a spy master mute, it certainly had to be a high status. He came back up the room to find his wife and son their completely fine.

"What happened" he asked.

"I don't know, I was carefully creating a true story that gave him the wrong ideas before a women showed up and whispered something into the man's ear. Whatever it was, he suddenly became very nice and let us go instantly.... Strange did the clan have something to do with this?".

"No, I think it was me. She took my hand and looked at my ring before going quiet and then letting me go".

"Your ring? The one you obtained at the palace right? Let me see it".

She took his hand and studied the ring carefully.

'It doesn't look like anything I recognize, then again it was given to him as a reward from the palace of eternal love, I doubt its ordinary. There was also that strange comment that came along with it. Perhaps its much more important than I thought'.

Gu Xiao knew the ring had to be special considering its origins. She just didn't think it would be so special that it would cause such a reaction from the spy masters. It was very dark in the room but she could make out the faint look of horror that appeared on the man's face. It certainly wasn't a face someone would make if they wronged a nobody. The obvious question then was what identify did this ring give to Gu Zhi.

"Let's go, I don't want to be in this city anymore and we need to go back home as soon as we can. Any information regarding the rewards we received from the palace can be looked back at there." Gu Zhi said.

Gu Xiao promptly agreed as they started to head south back to their sect.

They traveled for a day and night before reaching the next city realizing that they would have to find a better method of transportation. Given the sheer size of Yangoo to travel back to their sect would take years at least on foot. They needed some type of traveling tool, and through a bit of information collecting they found what they were looking for. 2 weeks north of the city that they were at, was the city of Ice Rain. Near the border it was a neutral territory that gathered people from both countries to hold cross party auctions and trade. Due to the price of the tools they wanted, it was the only place near them that could provide what they needed. So instead of heading south they headed north.
