Clara greeted him with a small bow.
Lucien gave a nod.
"What's up, Clara?"
She hesitated. "Actually... I came to ask for permission."
Lucien raised a brow. "For what exactly?"
"Well… My Lord, would it be alright if we rebuilt our base of operations too? We'd like it to resemble a church."
Lucien fell into silence.
Religion... That was never his strong suit.
Does it make people good?
He wasn't sure. To him, goodness was relative. One man's virtue was another man's vice.
But if there was one thing he truly hated, it was hypocrisy.
Those who sinned freely then turned around and begged for forgiveness as if that wiped the slate clean.
People who planned their wrongdoing, thinking they could just repent later.
That kind of blind faith disgusted him.
He didn't want his people becoming like that.
Lucien studied Clara quietly.
Then sighed.
'She's not like that,' he thought.
Clara wasn't the type to commit sins under the guise of faith.
