My heart pounded mercilessly against my ribcage as I paced the length of the bunker's main living area for what felt like the hundredth time. The clock on the wall seemed to mock me with each passing minute, reminding me that Lyra and Ronan had been missing for twenty-four hours now.
"They should have been back yesterday," I said, wringing my hands as I turned to face Kaelen. "Something's wrong. I can feel it."
Kaelen looked up from his tablet, concern etched across his handsome face despite his attempt to appear calm. "The magical storm was unexpected. They probably just took shelter somewhere until it passed."
"Then why haven't they called?" I challenged, my voice rising with panic. "Lyra would never let me worry like this. Not after everything we've been through."
