It's been four years since I saw my family's blood stain the moonlit floor. Unable to shake the image from my mind, it has also been four years since I vowed to hunt every last one of them. Tonight, I walk the shadows again.

I was 11, got into an argument with mom, even after this time, I am still unable to recall what we fought about. I stormed out the house, unaware this would be my last opportunity to see my family alive. There is was river, it lies a couple of minutes from my village, so I went and sat down there. I enjoy watching the fish swim, the water flow, it brings me peace. While listening to the flow of the river, I managed to fall asleep, a mistake that would cost me everything.
"AAAAAAHHHHH!" A scream I hear, waking me out of my sleep I look around, confused and concerned I hear it again, only this time I have an idea of where it came from. It came from my village. I panicked, I ran as fast as I could, I didn't know what was going on, all I could tell was that there was a problem. I continue to run, I'm not physically strong, I run out of breath fast, still pushing through to make sure I get there.
After a minute I start to see my village, it's hidden in the trees. I hear more screams.
"Help me!" "Please stop!" "We did nothing wrong!"
I start to notice a problem, it was my family. Panicked, I pick up the pace, I trip, get back up, fall, and get back up again. Once I get to my house, I notice the door is wide open, it's gone quiet, too quiet, there are no sounds, no talking, nothing. I am terrified, yet I take a step into my home, I notice a smell, it was horrid. The stench alone was enough to make me pass out. Just as I thought it couldn't get worse, I notice something, it was a red liquid on the floor, still in shock I look up, my mother was hanged. I look to the right, there was a sword in my father, I then look to the left, my older sister, and older brother were both unconscious.
I could tell my parents were dead. With visible injuries that would end with nothing but death, I accepted it right there in that moment. As I started walking to my siblings, I ask them "what happened?" My older brother, Azreal, while coughing up blood, tries to warn me, "behind you" he says, I felt something pierce my chest, I look up, and there it was. Looking down at me while smiling, I'll never forget that fucking image. It was a monster, something from a horror story, it was the devil. After that, it's too much of a blur.
I woke up in a hospital, nothing like I have seen before, everything looked so new and fancy. A few minutes proceed to go by, my doctor walks in, "oh you're awake" he says, in a panic I ask him "what happened to my family." He lets out a sigh, I can already tell this won't be good, I ask "are my older sister and brother alive at least," he looks at me confused, "what brother?" I look up at him, "my older brother, Azreal, he should have been in the house with me." The doctor looks at me like I am crazy, "your sister is fine, but there was no 'brother' you speak of when they arrived to rescue you." Don't tell me, my brother is dead too? It was just me and my sister left, I ask my doctor "where are we?" A grin appears on his face, he whispers, "we are in the V.E.L. Medical Room of course." I'm even more confused, I have never heard of this 'V.E.L.' he speaks of, so I ask him "what is a V.E.L.?" An even bigger grin appears on his face, I can tell he really enjoys this place, "V.E.L. stands for Vampire Extermination League. We are the biggest ground of vampire hunters and researchers. Those who found you were members of Nightfall. One of our specialty divisions." Wait, "Where is my sister" I shout, realizing she was alive, I needed to see her again. "Calm down" the doctor said, "shes right there" he points to my right and there she was.
"Azalea!" I screamed, that was her name. It was weird, she was just staring out the window, as I opened my mouth to ask her if she was okay, "they're all dead" and that's when it hit me. She watched our parents die. She saw what that monster did to them, I can't even imagine how it must've felt like for her, I'll leave this be for now. "How long has it been" I asked the doctor, "11 days" my sister interrupted, "11 days, 9 hours, and 43 minutes." I just now fully realized it, me and my sister have to continue on without our parents, and no guidance, I have a feeling the doctor could tell what I was thinking "Actually, we have a program here, orphans like you two, who lose their parents to vampires, can join our academy to become fully licensed vampire hunters." Vampires? He's got to be joking, but now that I think about it, he's mentioned vampires before, and it checks out, before I blacked out, that tall horrifying creature standing above me, whatever it was, it wasn't human. Before I could even get a sentence out, Azalea said, "we'll join" and while hearing this, a grin appeared on my face. This was the moment, the moment I swore I'll kill them all.
