Chapter 2 - 2. The Banquet Party

As soon as they ended the call, Laylah took some time off and went to her kitchen to do her dishes before the driver could get to her address. A few minutes later, she heard a knock on her door, and just as she had expected, it was the driver. She recognized him instantly, he's mostly with Mrs. Rose whenever she come to the coffee shop.

"Hello! Mrs. Rose asked me to pick you up." He informed her, then continued. "I will wait for you in the car." He breathed out before she could speak and turned to head back to the car.

Laylah closed the door behind her and went inside to get dressed. She didn't have any expensive outfits, so she just picked a tank top and jeans, grabbed her bag, and headed out to where the car was parked. The driver held the car door for her as she hopped inside, then proceeded to the driver's seat and drove off.

As he drove her to the destination known to him, she stared out the window, thinking if she had made the right decision. Who would turn down such an offer? You get to write down whatever you want and get it? She thought.

A wide grin appeared on her face, and she thought this was God's intervention in her life. Just in the blink of an eye, she was going from rags to riches. She was still lost in her thoughts when the driver came to a halt and turned off the car engine.

"We are here, ma'am." She heard, and turned to him. The next thing she saw was the famous Los Angeles boutique sitting pretty in front of her. The driver saw the questioning look on her face and proceeded to satisfy her curiosity.

"Mrs. Rose asked me to bring you here, they will serve you and get you ready for the banquet." He informed her and stepped down from the car to get the door for her. Laylah mumbled a thank you and followed behind as he leads the way. They marched into the boutique, and she was amazed by what she saw, the smile never leaving her face.

"Hello! ma'am, we will be your attendants for today." Two ladies approached her as they walked through the door. Laylah looked back at the driver for confirmation, and he nodded at her.

"Thank you. Please lead the way." She muttered, and they outstretched their hands, leading her further into the boutique. The next fifteen minutes were spent trying on different outfits. There were so many beautiful options, and Laylah couldn't decide on which to pick. She had never worn something expensive, most of her outfits were from thrift stores.

Laylah finally picked an outfit with the help of the attendant, and her makeup was expertly applied, her hair styled into a pony with strands framing both sides of her face.

"You are ready to leave. We are done, ma'am." The attendant said, while the other brought a mirror closer to her.

Laylah's mouth gasped open at the sight of her features, she couldn't believe she was the one sitting down next to the mirror.

"Thank you so much. I love it." She said, still astonished at the sight of her beauty.

"You are beautiful, ma'am, and I believe you will make a beautiful bride." The other attendant complimented, and it took her aback, reminding her of the reason she was dressed up like a princess.

"The driver must be waiting for you. It's getting late, you should be at the venue on time." They informed her, and she just nodded with a smile, excitement still evident on her face.

They led her back to where the driver was waiting for her. He froze at the sight of her, she had changed a lot.

"Let's get going, Mrs. Rose just called." He said and walked her to the car slowly. A few minutes later, they arrived at an enormous mansion, accentuated with numerous beautiful gardens. The driver stepped out and held the car door for her. As she stepped out, a maid was already waiting for her arrival.

"Hello, ma'am. Mrs. Rose asked me to escort you inside." She informed her, and the driver asked to go with her.

Laylah nodded and followed her until they reached a room. She pushed the door open, and the maid asked her to go inside.

"Please wait here, Mrs. Rose will be with you shortly. I will inform her of your arrival." She turned on her heels and walked out of the room. Laylah looked around the room while still waiting for Rose to show up. It didn't take long, the door pushed open, and Rose walked into the room with a smile plastered on her face.

"Hello, Mrs. Rose." Laylah stood up to honor her. She was indeed happy because all this was possible with her request.

"I'm glad you made it. You look stunning, sweetheart." She responded and pulled her into a warm hug.

"Thank you for inviting me, I feel honored." Rose disentangled the hug, holding her hands.

"You deserve everything, sweetheart. I promise you made the right decision. Come with me, the party has started, and my son is waiting for you." She said, and held her hands, marching out of the room. Her statement got stuck in Laylah's mind. Why would he wait for her? Is he familiar with her? Was he the one who wanted her? She thought but couldn't comprehend it. As soon as they stepped their legs into the hall, Laylah was greeted with a crowd of distinguished guests. Everywhere was screaming luxury, the ambiance was welcoming, guests clad in expensive outfits. Laylah had never seen anything like it.

"This place is heaven, everything looks beautiful." Laylah mumbled, but Rose heard her, and it made her chuckle.

As they approached Liam, Laylah couldn't help but notice his initial change in demeanor upon seeing her. But his mother's discreet warning quickly shifted his expression, and he proceeded to greet her.

"Laylah, this is my son Liam. Liam, this is Laylah, the lady I told you about. You have been anticipating to meet her, here she is." The last line got Liam thinking how far his mother could go. When did he ever anticipate meeting her? He thought.

"Miss Laylah, it's a pleasure to meet you. I have heard so much about you from my mother. You look more beautiful than I had expected." Liam responded earnestly, his hands out to shake hers. His mother had told him about her, but she didn't do justice to her beauty. She looks beautiful, and now that he's seen her, he can attest to it.

"I have heard about you from your mother, and it's a pleasure to meet you too. You are good-looking." She complimented.

They exchanged pleasantries and spoke like the couple they were supposed to be. Rose couldn't hide how happy she was seeing them get along.

But then again, she was astound Liam could speak this sweet. She has introduced him to ladies, but his aura alone scare them away. He is the number one most trending in Los Angeles, alot of people don't like him because he is arrogant, and stern.

"So tell me about yourself, I would love to know more about you." Liam said. This was because his mother was with them, he can't misbehave even if he doesn't like her, to avoid getting an earful later. They were in the middle of their conversation when the MC announced the Mayor's arrival.

"Ladies and gentlemen, let's welcome the Mayor." Everyone's attention diverted to the figure, murmurs here and there, except for Laylah who couldn't stop staring at the hall.
